I guess over at Realgm, there's a poster named Smitty, who apparently has sources in the know. He heard from them, and confirmed as he bounced things off them, that indeed there has been talks, and I guess there are still ongoing talks about a 3 team trade involving us, the Clippers and the Kings. The main moving parts are Griffin and Pierce coming to Boston, Crowder to Sacramento, and Gay to LA.
This guy Smitty seems genuine and authentic, and appears well known.
Not exactly thrilled to be getting Griffin and his load of injuries, and not happy to be losing Crowder. But getting Pierce back, even though he's nearly done with his career, is still nice. Can be a fantastic mentor for Jaylen Brown.

I'm not excited about Paul pierce.. Yes we won a championship with him but of all the Celtic greats I find him the least professional. I could not stand his entitled dramatics..
And no way I want to trade jae crowder.. Unless its a bona fide super star..

Quote. Paul to the refs. You can't call that foul on me cause we won a championship.
Actions.. Wheelchair incident? Sulking at things not going his way. Is that leadership?

Celtics team doctor Brian McKeon called for the wheelchair and had Pierce carried off the floor.

I never heard of Paul saying that first part. JMost covered the wheelchair incident. Sulking? You mean like every other star in the league? Name a star that doesn't pout or sulk when things are not going their way. I also think that you are discounting how hard he played and the amount of heart that he had and the loyalty that he had for the franchise. You are entitled to your opinion of course, but IMO you are way off base on this one if that is your only reasoning.

One thing I thought would get brought up was when he kind of made a fool of himself during the press conference after the C's lost to the Pacers in the first round of the playoffs (Either 05 or 06). He had that bandage on his head. Came off as pretty childish.
That said, I absolutely love that guy, and would love to see him finish his career in boston.

I didn't care for Pierce all that much, pre-Garnett era. But all that changed after the championship.

I thought Pierce was making too much and doing too little prior to KG. I didn't see him as a max guy at all.
I'll believe these fireworks when I see them

I do like Paul's wanting the ball .. I did not like the forcing of the offense. They lost to the fakers because they couldn't hit key 4th quarter baskets.
Believe I read that quote in sports illustrated.. It certainly jived with what I saw.
Just because superstars pout does it make it right! I am a old man, grew up with manners. Did bird act like a baby?
I have no clue why we would want Paul on this team. as a free agent perhaps at a vets minimum but to actually trade for him is koo k00.

If we do trade for him, its only to make salaries work. He's not a deal breaker.

If we do trade for him, its only to make salaries work. He's not a deal breaker. Can you explain the mathematics of salary's? Because we dont have any high salaries? And would be getting two high ones? And we get what? For helping them dump salary and we get their unwanted garbage we get what?

I think the rule is you have to have equal value going out as you have coming in. But maybe that only works if you have no cap space. Hmmm... good question, maybe Fresh can help us out here.
I wouldn't call Pierce garbage. He can be a great mentor for our young wings, especially for Jaylen. Pierce was a terrific scorer, even though he didn't have great athleticism and explosiveness. I'd imagine Jaylen can learn a few tricks from Pierce -- how to perfect that step back jumper, how to pump fake and draw the foul on jump shots etc.
Its not like Pierce is expensive. He's only making 3.5 mil.

So what do you guys think about Griffin? If these talks are really happening, that means there is real interest in Griffin.
Blake had his explosive power dunks and sneaky quickness (for a 6'10" who can dribble) early in the year, but he partially tore his left quad on Christmas day. Missed a lot of time because of it, and came back late in the year but didn't move or perform quite like himself. That's to be expected. But it also didn't heal as quickly as hoped so he received bone marrow treatment. It is not an uncommon procedure, and I believe it was Doc who said its not a scary thing.
In order for us to make a trade for Blake, Ainge better be darn sure that Griffin is good to go, and can return to the player he was before the injury.
Now, if Blake can return to form, what we are getting is an offensive threat from mostly anywhere on the court, inside the arc. He can score in the post, he can hit jumpers (elbows, baseline, top of the key), he can isolate, he can shake and bake his man with adequate ball handling, he likes to attack the rim if there's an opening, he's a pick and pop threat, he can run the break and lead the break, etc.
He rebounds and helps in steals as well. Strong body makes him hard to back down in the post.
I'm sure Brad Stevens will find creative ways to use both Horford and Griffin on the floor together.

We all like Crowder, but Griffin is a definite upgrade. I think if you ask 30 NBA GMs who's the better player, they'll all say Griffin. We have plenty of guys who can guard SGs, with Bradley and Smart in the elite category. And if Griffin is aboard he'd get most of the minutes at PF. And we have plenty of other PF types. So we'd really only be missing Crowder's D against SFs. Smart, if he's still on the team, can be a small-ball defender at SF. Brown will get minutes. The rest Stevens would just have to figure out. If Brown gets a ton of minutes, there are worse things than having him learn on the job.
I just think you have to upgrade talent first and figure out the rest later. I also have to believe that having another star on board will help with future free agent recruiting.
