Who did we lose out on by going after Durant?

In terms of Evans vs Brown for this year Brown doesn't need to be better than him today. He needs to be better than him when the playoffs come around. I think it's possible.
I also hope for various young guys to be better. Evan Turner didn't get us into the 2nd round of the playoffs but Horford got his team in there.
I think with the emergence of Rozier and hopefully RJ H and Smart being better and maybe even Demetrius being able to contribute something and maaayybeee even James Young contributing something the wings and guards are better than last year.
Maybe Jonas can play on the wing a tad.
In terms of bigs I think Horford makes us there better right away and we still have KO and Amir and some Jerebko. So again you're hoping for some young guy contributions from a Jordan Mickey or possibly a Bentil.
I think injuries are one of our biggest possible problems, but you can say that about any team.

I wonder what the asking price for Westbrook is? Would there be any possibility that we can put together a trade package without giving up the Brooklyn 2017 pick?

Main reason why we are mentioned as suitors are the abundance of draft picks. The more I think about it.if it's true that we can have 2 max guys next year is to get someone here now. Then try to get Westbrook in free agency. Cause no way Westbrook precommitts and the thunder are gonna want to much.

Who did we lose out on by going after Durant? Surely you jest.? I sat and watched really nice players like Whiteside. etc get signed while Danny was wooing a dream girl. And honestly I think al is a good player. but max money for him was a little to much. a little easier to swallow if Durant came with him lol.

Whiteside met with only two teams, Dallas and Miami. He rejected Portland's request for a meeting. You can't assume he was willing to even listen to Boston. Wanting a player and having the player want you are two very different things.

While we could have improved with really good players.. It wasn't only Whiteside. There were others we could have used.

Do you know that we didn't?

I'd much rather have Horford at max money than Whiteside at 24-25 mill a year.
And I'd much rather go after max level talent, fail, and try again next year than tie up all our cap room on average players for the near future. This team already has a lot of decent players. We need all-star talent.

Whiteside from every report I've read (and this of course are just reports online based on other's analysis) was said to be a guy who rebounded well, finished well but was quite one dimensional. He was a terrible passer who never looked for guys cutting or slashing to the basket or guys who were open on the corners, he didnt shoot FTs well and clogged up the paint. So I still think I'd take Horford over him given that theres only a 3 year age difference between them and Horford has many more facets to his game.

Whiteside isn't as sexy as Horford. Were we really interested in Dwight Howard?
I sure hope not.But the owners did mention fireworks. They must realize that a championship is yrs away unless they are really lucky. So what do you do if you can't win it all ? Fireworks to fill the seats. TV revenues.. At what point do the owners say we want a big time player here via trade or free agency...?

Horford is much better for the team than Whiteside and trading for Westbrook would be a mistake. Let's get Okafor, Noel, or Cousins.

Brown and Horford or Turner and Sully... Seems like a pretty obvious no brainer to me.
And with everybody improving, this team is certainly getting much better. We need to draft a PG next year, get a good scorer (cough cough Gordon Hayward) and a center.

We need to draft a PG next year, get a good scorer (cough cough Gordon Hayward) and a center. That's not the point. The point is adding a scorer like Crawford. Trading Isaiah. Getting Crawford would give us the bench scorer we need. And how easy to trade Isaiah for a first round pick and a good player..
