Would any of you oppose losing Walker for nothing more than lowering our salary? hoopshype had a link today to a Miami Herald article suggesting a sign-and-trade with Walker to Miami for Doleac, Rasual Butler and Miami's $1.9 million trade exemption. My feeling is that it makes no sense for us -- if all we wanted was cap space, just let Walker sign elsewhere. No need to take on players just for the sake of short term contract, since Walker is an EXPIRED contract. If all we wanted was cap space, simply don't re-sign Walker. If we are to deal with Miami, and if hoopshype salary info on Miami is correct, I would rather take Rasual Butler and Wesley Person plus the trade exemption AND A FIRST ROUND PICK. Person is in the last year of a $1.8 million deal, so we would not be stuck with a salary for three more years as we would with Doleac. The combined salaries would allow Walker to make $6,312,500 in the first year (more than a million over the MLE, plus the 10.5% increases would add up to significantly more than a team signing Walker for the MLE could sign him for). Since we would be getting such little productivity from Butler and Person in return for Walker, I would squeeze Miami for that 1st round pick. We would then regain the pick we spent for Walker (though probably a little higher in the draft order) and not take on any significant salary in return, plus facilitate any future trades with the $1.9 million exemption. Not the best deal in the world, but I would prefer it over the Butler/Doleac proposal in the Miami Herald.

Solid idea proposal, Mev. Dorrell Wright may be an option, seeing how there was buzz surrounding him in last year's draft with him being rumored to be promised a spot by Ainge.
By all means, bypass Doleac (although he and Laettner did look good in spot minutes in the playoffs last season). Rasual Butler looks decent, but not really that important.
If anything, we may be in conversations with Miami to perform a 3 team deal. There's nothing from Miami we really want or need (PG or big man). But in a 3 team deal, we may be able to get a PG or big man from another team, or a draft pick.

Heres a great trade:
Memphis trades:
Jason Williams James Posey
Miami Trades:
Michael Doleac Eddie Jones Rasual Butler
Boston trades:
Antoine Walker Mark Blount Marcus Banks
Memphis recieves:
Eddie Jones Mark Blount Marcus Banks
Miami recieves:
Antoine Walker James Posey
Boston recieves:
Jason Williams Rasual Butler Michael Doleac
This way, we won't have Blonut while trading away Walker and Danny can afford to take extra salary due to Blount being added in. As opposed to Walker for 2 2nd rd picks and Doleac adding extra salary onto Blonuts contract also.
