He reminds me a lot of Pierce. Versatile scoring wing player who is limited athletically and have no vertical game (like Gerald Green).
He's got more of an inside game than Pierce does and not quite the outside game that Pierce has. But Gomes can attack from both parts of the court.
Gomes is not a guy I feel will make his way into the starting rotation because he's not quick enough, nor does he provide enough slashing ability from the SF spot to warrant a starting spot. But where I see him finding his niche is as Jefferson's backup, providing us with a good scoring big man off the bench. Very good pickup to give us bench depth.

He could be a nice Malik Rose type player with range. He is a bruiser for his size and is crafty. He's a big 3. There really isnt that huge a difference between Gomes and Graham and we got Gomes over 30 picks later.

He could be a nice Malik Rose type player though with range. He is a bruiser for his size and is crafty. He's a big 3. There really isnt that huge a difference between Gomes and Graham and we got Gomes over 30 picks later. Yeah, his inside game and rugged rebounding ability is similar to Malik Rose's. Gomes is a better scorer than Justin Reed (who is also playing for a spot as our backup SF/PF), but Reed may turn out to be the better man defender. It'll be nice to be able to use them interchangeably to match up against our opponents. If we need more scoring, Doc can use Gomes. If he needs to put a good defender on a hot SF, he can go with Reed.

Hey guys. I went to bed last night hoping that the Cs would pick Ryan Gomes and they did. This was definately a spectacular draft for us. GO CELTICS!!!!!!

I think gomes was a great value at 50, and although he might never start he could be a nice building block on a championship team.you need a strong starting 5 but also need 2-3 solid bench guys. I think that could be gomes and banks.Gomes also seems like a hard worker and will give his all to be here.Did you see how he left his shoes on the court in providence after his last game symbolizing he gave it his all and left it all on the court. Danny researched him well and knows exactly what he can do.

Ainge has said (before the draft) thta he doesn't anticipate the second rounders will make the 12.
Cs already have 6 kids on the roster. This would be another 3. For total of 9 under I think 23.
Which would leave 5 for all others.
That mix isn't going to happen.

In the past, I have let my feelings be known that I wasn't impressed with Ryan Gomes. He's not anything special, he isn't a spectacular athlete, he isn't a big scorer or a big rebounder. He's not quick, he's not tall, he's not super strong--he's not a lot of things.
But as a 50th pick, he's quite a good pickup. If I was anticipating him to be a future starter, I'd have a different opinion on the pick. But my feeling is that he'll be a backup, and like Scooter says, a good team needs to have a handful of productive bench guys to win. Gomes is going to be a productive scorer/rebounder for us as a backup. His limitations athletically won't be much of an issue if he's a backup because he won't be seeing more than 20 minutes on the court per game. He'll come in, grab some rebounds, score some points, give our SF/PF's a breather, and then go back to the bench.
Very good piece to the puzzle.

I am from Rhode Island and i have seen quite a few PC games at the Dunking donuts center. He is basically an undersized power forward. He cant play the three in the NBA. During his last two years he started to hit the outside shot all the way to the three point line. During his first two years he was strictly an inside player. He is a tweener but he is aa good rebounder and has good hands. A good pick at 50 but he is no Eric Williams. Ewill was a very good defender and had an awesome post game coming out of PC. Injuries really hurt his career. He still ended up as a good role player but he had alot of potential as a big SF. Gomes is more of a Clarence Weatherspoon, Jason Caffey type of player but with an outside shot. Still thats pretty damn good for a 50th pick.

Wassup, Beefy. Long time no hear!
Yeah, that's how I feel about Gomes too. I don't feel that he's a power 3, like Doc says. Gomes is an undersized 4. I list him and Justin Reed as our SF/PF, tweeners who can fill in where they're needed in game situations. Gomes isn't athletic enough to play the 3 consistently, even with losing all that weight. His shooting from the perimeter is all based on the set shot and he has an average release--not quick enough to be a catch and shoot player.
But I'm thrilled to have him on the team because I feel that he can be a quality scorer off the bench. He can score inside and outside and that kind of versatility will be a hot commodity on a high scoring team like ours.

I really like these picks as I said before. If Gomes also doesn't make the roster, he can always go to the nbdl. We're overly loaded with players so its possible him and or Orien could be cut.

No one is going to get cut Meltin. Having the NBDL will give these player time to 'develope'...

I think Gomes will be a solid contributor off the bench. He will know his role, and do it well. True, he is undersized, but the kid has heart,as well as determination. PC took a gamble on him, and it paid off. We will as well, and it will pay off.
I agree w/ an earlier post, that a championship team needs 2-3 bench/role players. Gomes is one of them.

Don't know diddly about him.
However, apparently he listened to what people told him last year, and went back for his senior year and apparently worked hard to lsoe weight and change his gfame.
That sounds to me like a good work ethic and coachability.
