So is Kanter once again part of a three-headed center rotation? Before it was Theis/Kanter/Robert. Now it would be Al/Robert/Kanter. Or does this mean Rwill or Al are being moved? I'd hate to move on from Rob (cause I think he has big time ability that is going to emerge). But maybe Brad likes the sturdy body type (he brought back Horford and Kanter). And we soon need to decide on whether we're going to commit to Rob long term. If his value is high, maybe Rob and Smart are bundled in a trade package for someone good.

Seems like everyone agrees that Kanter is a defensive liability, so I have a hard time believing that Kanter is anything more than a depth signing at center. He's a good guy, a low maintenance guy, and is reportedly only signing for one year, so he won't impact any potential FA signing next summer.

I like him as the 2nd big off the bench. Rigjt now I'd assume Rob starts, Horford comes off the bench, followed by Kanter.

Aron Baynes was waived by the Raptors.
Hey, since we've brought back Horford and Kanter, why not Baynes too!

Once I was reading something about Cherokee Parks and it said "Every backup in the league has a backup. Those guys make a good living. That's Cherokee Parks." Kanter makes a nice living. He's one of the 400 best basketball players on the planet. He's our third string guy on a 1 year deal. He'll do 3rd string things like give our top 2 guys a rest

Despite a few injuries throughout his career, should we be looking at Elfrid Payton? He is a pass first PG and given that we already have shooters in Al, Tatum, Brown, Richardson and Nesmith, perhaps a PG that looks to facilitate is what we need.

Watching the Knicks improve, the Hawks came out last year as a top team, the Bulls strengthened their team further...
Are we even on track to make the playoffs?
Nets Bucks Sixers Heat Hawks Knicks
I see all the above as locks for the playoffs. Knicks simply because Thibs is amazing as a coach. The rest as a result of talent.
Then we get to the marginal cases
Bulls - much improved roster Raptors - a down year but a strong overall team with Scottie Barnes now onboard. They needed to adjust to playing away from their own home court. Hornets - also a playoff possibility Wizards - they have Beal, they lost Russ, but they have more overall scoring talent that came via the Lakers trade

I would put the Bulls in the playoffs too. We are "battling" the Raptors for 4th in the Atlantic Division. I don't see us as a playoff team, and if we are, no higher than seventh if everything goes perfectly. I don't see us making the playoffs, so we may as well go for a high lottery pick. Let the young guys prove themselves one way or the other and then reload for 2022.

Word is going around with that we're in conversation with Dennis Schroeder.
I thought we were looking for veterans who know their roles?
I'd imagine we're only offering a year deal, which means it'll be a season that Schroeder tries to shine so he can get a bigger contract next summer.
Well, I guess if he thinks proving that he can set up the team and make everyone around him better is the way to a big contract, then it could work.
But what does this say about Marcus Smart?

Just because we extend Smart doesn't necessarily mean he's in the long term plans either. We could be signing him to a 4 year contract at 17 mil (which isn't breaking the bank, Fournier got a similar deal) in order to use him as part of a trade package for Beal (or whoever).

That better be the case, or we will never be a true contender with him on this roster. I may not watch anymore games as long as he is still in a Celtic uniform. I would have rather kept Fournier. Maybe we can trade AL and Not So Smart for Beal and Bertans. The money is close enough to make the trade straight up, (37M vs 44M) but of course we will have to add picks to sweeten the deal.

So that was apperenlty just the number for the first year of the deal. We are offering this guy a max contract for his level, which is a terrible move if he isn't used in a trade. This has an eventual buyout for some team down the road written all over it.

My opinion is Smart is being signed with the intention of trading him at some point.
Our interest in Schroder, and previous interest in Lonzo Ball reveals that we are in the market for a PG.
If Smart isn't a PG, I don't know where else we'd put him (surely not at SG). And if he isn't starting, that's a lot if money being offered for a bench PG.
