Gosh, I really hope not. I don't even know how many minutes he'd play on this team with Hayward back and our young guys getting better unless he can start shooting waaaay better.

Didn't realize it was being reported as a done deal. Oh well, hopefully he'll be a good trading piece and give us flexibility in that regards although I am shocked Ainge gave him that kind of a deal when he didn't need to.

More $ (average of 13 million per my math) than I expected from Danny, but I guess given Dante Exum's ridiculous contract it's not too far off. But given our impending luxury tax penalties, would not surprise me if part of the reason Danny gave him the contract was to have a movable contract (enough to help match salaries for an all star, like say Butler) while not being so big it is unmovable.
Still, as long as he is not taking shots late in close games, I am OK with Smart doing his thing and being a human wrecking ball off the bench.

Smart's contract is about right, give or take $1-$3m. It does not necessarily mean he will be here for 4-years. I am fairly sure Danny used some of the sign & trade offers as a barometer. Also, does anyone think Danny waited because Smart was an asset to be traded in a potential deal for Kawhi?

Even if our offers, as rumored, were 'draft pick heavy' there would still have to be some salary going SA's way to make the trade work under the CBA and apparently Danny would not send out any of our "five untouchables" so I am supposing Morris and Smart, among others, would have to have been included. If we could somehow have added Kawhi while keeping Kyrie, Jaylen, Jayson, Al and Gordon - or even snatch Butler while keeping those 5 - that would be quite a coup by "trader Danny." |

W/ Kawhi, there was too much uncertainty. I doubt Rozier would have been dangled, which would make the untouchable list to 6.

It's going to be interesting to see how minutes are divided up this year. Other than Larkin, everyone is back, and we have Hayward, who will eventually be getting 30+ minutes per game, back in the rotation. Brad will presumably continue to limit guys' minutes to no more than the low thirties per game, to preserve health and freshness for the playoffs, but there are still not enough minutes to go around. I don't see Smart getting 29+ minutes per game as he did last year. Twenty seems more likely. And Marcus Morris may have a lot of DNPs.
And if Brown and Tatum continue their rapid improvement, given their age, do they get even more minutes, making fewer available for others?
