What was Smart's asking price (contract extension)? Interesting, his agent is Happy Walters who represented Nerlens Noel this summer (rumor he rejected $17.5m/year). Side note - I am aware BOS could exceed the cap signing Smart, however this would start year [HASH]1 of luxury tax, which substantially increases if the team repeats 3 out of 4 years.

I think managing the cap is the reason why an extension wasn't agreed upon. His agent is probably asking for more than we'd like to offer at this time.

After [HASH]20 going down with an "L" for an ankle? Might be more now. Or does DA give a rip over this kind of snap?

I think the new Rockets owners said it best, "you pay the luxury tax for a top-2 team."

I'm watching for the Smart vs Rozier dynamic to play itself out, in terms of which one shows his longterm value to the team more this year. If Rozier is even roughly similar to Smart as a backup PG, and Brown plays a pretty good SG/Wing, then I don't see us spending big on Smart next summer.

One of Smart's most important contributing skill is his ability to ignite excitement and momentum off of his hustle plays. Whenever we have our exciting runs, he's usually the one who initiates it with his max effort hustle plays that contagiously spreads to the rest of the team.

Jack has shot poorly 2-games in a row, high volume. And the possible drawback of these last 2 poor shoot games is the nagging thought in the back of his head that he's lost the feel for, and the confidence, of his newfound shooting stroke.

He has been terrible so far on offense, he needs to come off the bench and limit his shots.

He's the new Antoine. No conscience. At least Walker got hot more than once a year.
Sometime during the Milwaukee game I actually flashed back to a thought I had in Paul Pierce's rookie year, when it had become obvious very quickly that PP could really play. I remember thinking that it would stink if Paul became stuck playing second fiddle to Antoine. What triggered this was seeing Tatum had taken half as many shots as Smart - even though Tatum is a much superior offensive player. Tatum is a rookie and for obvious reasons isn't demanding the ball. I just hope that the shots wind up being taken by the right people.

Before Bradley improved his shooting, he took about the same number of shots as Smart now, and I said something similar then.

Near the end of last year I went back at looked at the box scores of all the games to that point. I found that the Celtics were way above .500 when Smart took 9 or fewer shots, and way below .500 when he shot 10 or more. So far this year, both games Smart shot well over 10 shots (5-16, 4-13). Both losses. It's not just that he's a bad shooter. It's that he isn't a PG and he's miscast as a guy who should have the ball with 5 seconds left on the clock.

Ironic, the team's worst shooter has the ball in his hands when the shot clock is winding down.

What makes it worse is in the Milwaukee game, we missed 10 free throws and half of them were his as he was 1-6 from the line. He needs to just stop shooting the ball unless it is within 3 foot or less.

Jackie Mac had a recent write up, and her impression is Smart will be looking to get the most he can in his next contract, and with that I guess he's also looking for a bigger role. I don't see him starting, with the roster we have, and I'd say that Terry Rozier has already leaped in front of him.
Could this possibly be the final games we see Smart donning the Celtics uni?
