8-)Hi ! the Bahamian boy, back again ! I do too, believe that one of the key players to the C's success - is Tony Allen. This coming season, I see him being the "Joe Dumars" of the team - but with more athleticism. I'm kind of getting the feeling that Paul (while still trying to enhance his game in Vegas) is "GETTING IT". The team will be a better rebounding team - a key ingredient to fast break (no ball, no break)! With Al and Perks leading the way, there will be plenty of opportunities to run, run, run !!! Ricky, will be the glue - he will continue to mentor the young guns (he's been there, done that) and will encourage the vets i.e. Paul, Blount! With the super bench (speed, tenaciousness, grit), we will be able to sustain leads that we claim in games. One thing to note, is that another key ingredient to success is that these guys will be having Fun, playing the game, especially Marcus and delonte. I just can't stop talking about the "MENTAL " attitude of these guys. That is what people like, Bird, McHale, DJ, Danny, Walton, Magic and Jordan had ! Wait and see - These guys will surprise. I now officially call them - "THE YOUNG GUNS" . They will "shoot down a lot of "BIG"teams next season.

One of the key ingredients to Pierce's game will be the rebounding from our big men. If Raef, Perk, Al & the others can do their job in this department, Paul doesn't have to concentrate so much on this aspect of the game defensively. He'll be more rested on offense & he can concentrate on getting steals. Heck, this is important for all our backcourt players. The key next season will be whether our bigs can clog the lane inside & rebound. We have to control the paint if we want to run!

Right on, Kid Bahama. I gave you a Karma point for this post.
I'm feeling good about Tony Allen too. He's an exceptional athlete who has a drive in him to make things happen on the court. He's not the type who will set up around the perimeter when his teammate is penetrating into the paint, waiting for a kickout three pointer. He'll time his slash to the basket so that his teammate can have an option to pass to, and its worked to his advantage many times last year. Either he gets a pass in stride for a shot near the basket (usually allowing him to make an acrobatic layup), or he'll rise above the rim and throw down a dunk if his teammate's shot doesn't go down.
Perk and Big Al should definitely help the running game with their rebounding abilities. Big Al is amazing because he not only snatches the rebounds out of the air very quickly, but he's quick to instantly head towards the opposite end of the floor, initiating the fast break almost instantly.
Kind of early for Gomes, Green, and Greene, but I'm interested to see their games. Gomes may be able to help out immediately in spot minutes off the bench. Gerald Green may have to pick up on a few things before getting to see even 5 minutes on the floor. But I hope he's a quick learner because I expect a lot of good things from this guy.

On that note, we will see a big difference if we can rebound better. Statistically, we were a very good defensive team (in terms of opponent's FG% and forced TO's). But we were a terrible rebounding team, once again. No worthy team is poor on the glass. Its one of the first things a young team needs to become good at if they want to see success. Defense and rebounding are the first steps to success. Offense comes later. We took a different route and became good offensively first.
But not to worry. We have a lot of young players who are potentially solid rebounders, as well as good defenders. Plus, we have the making of being a top offensive team for many years to come.

I don't know about you guys, but I have a strange feeling that Danny Ainge IS related to the Lepracaun ! Ever since he left Boston, things have gone down hill !! Now that he is back - look out! He has managed this team Financially and talent wise, very well (lucky). Just look at all the talent He has assembled - too good to be true. I believe that Greene is that ONE special player, that comes along once in awhile - he has a serious chip on his shoulder. remember Bird - slow, white boy, who couldn't jump ! We shall all see - GREENE - that is !

I'm looking for good things out of Greene too bgreen. I have no reasons to back this up with. Just a gut feeling.

I remember when Jimmy Johnson took over the Dolphins in like 1995 and they asked why he wa playing so many rookies like Zach Thomas and he said "well some f our rookies were better players". I think it would be real cute if guys like Reed, Gomes, Tony, Perk, and Green got starts over guys like Raef, Ricky, and especially PP and then Doc could send a serious message and just say "some of our young guys are just better. They defend better, rebound better, have more energy, good attitues. I play the best players"

Yes playing the best players is all that counts. The veterans don't try as hard.

The record speaks for itself. Last year, the "Rookies" kept bailing out the "VETS". They would lose leads that the young guys gave to them. THe Young guns, brought more energy - now they will be bringing EXPERIENCE ! And the new "ROOKS" are even more energized and skilled than last year's crew (Gomes, Greene, Green).

This is why I am not opposed to getting rid of Paul Pierce.

This is why I am not opposed to getting rid of Paul Pierce. Pierce is still our best player at that position. Allen will never be that good & Green is still years away. Unlike Walker with Al, Pierce is not going to loose his starting position to any of the young guns in the next 2 years.

Theres Ricky who could still be the top 6th man even with Pierce gone. Not every team has to have a very strong sg.

I like Greene as well. He's like a dark horse guy I would cheer for. An underdog type who comes out and starts turning heads.
After the initial excitement of the draft, people have seemed to forgotten Gerald Green. This kid's athleticism is not to be underestimated. He can already do things on the court that many veterans don't have the talent to do (like drive on the left side of the court with his off hand and finish strong). Plus, he's got a good looking shot already. Barring any injuries and a total breakdown of his learning process, he should get some playing time.

And the fact someone said Martell Webster will be better. I laugh at that.

Yeah, that will be an embarrassing statement for whoever said that. Gerald Green has a whole lot more potential than Webster, and his ceiling is much higher. But heck, I've made some pretty bold statements in the past that haven't panned out either. I said that Jiri Welsch was going to be a mainstay on our team for years to come. Same for Brandon Hunter. Both are gone.
