AJ will not start. He's not physically ready to play starter's minutes. And his performance in Vegas did not inspire a great deal of confidence.

Who goes by Vegas though? They were trying to see what 2nders had I thought.

He didn't shoot good. His rebounding wasn't exceptional. His fouls were way too frequent.
Not sure how to spin that. InsideHoops I think reported that at the end of the week he looked tired and draggy, and that his feet looked like he was walking in quick-sand.
By contrast, when Reggie Lewis played in summer league, report was that he "looked like a man playing among boys."
He wasn't dominant in the minutes he played.

Maybe I do have a great love for antoine, and overvalue him a bit, but I think he is a valuable player, especially when he is in a place he WANTS to play, like Boston. You can knock him for his shot selection, but he clearly made better decisions this time around than in years past (as evidenced by his 3pt attempts). Antoine may not have great value across the league, but he is obviously a very talented player, who plays well here. I wouldn't trade these past playoff years for a bunch of "potential" players that wouldn't necessarily pan out. Without him, we wouldn't have this excitement back in Boston, even if he isn't part of our future plans.
As for AJ, obviously I wish him the best. I think he does need to become more aggressive/assertive and become more active- not to tie everything into Antoine, but those are qualities he does possess. I don't want him growing up with Blonut as his role model.

I'd rather have a player who makes things go right. I think Al J has that chance and I don't want Walker contaminating him. He's a good player who sucks. LMAO! ! ! ;D I tend to agree EJA. Count me in also. I think Walker is productive. But that doesn't mean I think he is a good team player or makes good choices. His shot selection is just terrible to coin a phrase from Walton. Agree once again with that. Even if Al J becomes a dud I will never change my tune about AW. Even if AW becomes good and efficient and leads a team to a championship I will not change my tune. If Bledsoe leads the Cowboys to 3 championships and people start saying to me "man we should have kept him and not Brady" I will say the same thing to them as I will for AW or for the people that think we should have kept Roger Clemens "Yeah, but he sucked when he was with us." Exactly eja. Thats a very good point. Veterans who succk (good players who suck like Walker) don't tend to bounce back. Its always the young guys who not many other teams gave a chance who do. If Al J doesn't pan out that well, at least you can say, you gave him a full shot and taking him over Antoine was smart regardless.

The few times I saw AJ play last year, it wasn't his offense that was lacking (he has some natural skills), it was his defense.

It appears his defense isn't there really. If it takes awhile for it to get there, I see him being an Eddy Curry kinda.

Summer league does not determine whether or not a player has the goods to play in the NBA. The preseason stats are more indicative of what a player can do. I'm hoping that Jefferson left Vegas with a sense of urgency to up the ante and motivate himself to play much better than he had in summer league. I'm sure he's embarrassed with how he played. We'll see how he handles this setback.
