I saw somewhere that the last 2 years of Scal's contract were club option. I saw someone post the same thing on another board. Makes me hopeful there is something to it. That would make it a better signing. The committment wouldn't be nearly as long, and if the entire contract is $15 million over 5 years, given the 8% annual increases under the new CBA the deal probably starts at around $2.5 million and works it's way up. After year 3, if we don't need his "intangibles" we can cut him lose before his contract gets to the $3 million range. I read that Scalabrini credits his 10 best performances to consulting the "brain doctor." Since Ainge has hired him as a consultant, my guess is Scalabrini will have him on speed dial. ;D Scalabrini, back when Ainge was a commentator for TNT, also credited Ainge for helping him become a part of NJ's rotation with some advice he gave him. Ainge obviously feels he can work with Scalabrini, and probably wants a locker room guy to "sell the proverbial koolaid" to the other players. If indeed the last two years are at the team's option, then I have no problem with the signing, as the annual salary is not large by any means for an NBA player.

Me: Dude, Scalabrine! Friend: Haha, wait, don't tell me we signed him?! Me: Haha(in my disbelief laugh), and guess for how long?...5 YEARS! Friend: What is Ainge thinking? Has he gone off the deep end?! Like we don't already have enough guess on the fence looking for playing time- now we have HIM!
That was a conversation I had today. Listen, if I have to, I can live without Antoine, even though he is my all-time fave celtic(and yes, I was around in the 80s), but the fact is, this is an absolute waste of a signing...and whoever said this will eat into Gomes' playing time is totally right. Maybe Ainge will actually realize the mistake he is making before July 22nd...

As for the sign and trade for Antonio Davis, if it doesn't include Blonut and his ginormous contract than what the hell are we doing it for?! Davis is looking like Ewing on the Raptors these days. Isn't there ANYONE else we can get besides Davis and Scalabrine??

Well, Justin Reed is also going to cut into Gomes' minutes (they practically play the same role), so is he a bad signing too? I think you are putting too much into this signing Jambr. Scalabrine is not a prize pickup. He isn't coming in to be a big part of our success. He is what he is--a terrific teammate and a solid role player. And he's not a bad player either. Because he knows his role, he didn't put up amazing stats for the Nets. If he was a me-me player who wanted to prove he should be in the starting lineup, those rebounding and scoring numbers would have been higher.
The guy is a tough player who adds roughness to our frontcourt. Every team needs players like this.
And like Mev mentioned, he's only guaranteed 3 years on his contract. The final 2 are team option years for Ainge to decide whether to keep him or not. If by that time Gomes, or Reed (or both), are ready to take Scalabrine's role, then he doesn't need to be brought back.

jambr380:
first of all, it's 03.54 at night where i live, so baire with me. to respond to your second (last) message. Don't be an ignoramous, if you put 1% off effort before posting, you would know that Walker for Davis is impossible. The only way it works if you include Blonut. So don't post rediculous posts about how rediculous it seems if Blonut isn't included. It would be like you offfered Pierce for Hardaway. Off course it would be a stutip trade, be you don't see us posting such meaningless messages.
Second, about Scala... well, the redhead, first off all, what's your alternative? Second, what is Walker going to provide extra for us? Not rebounding, we're such a bad rebounding team that even Blonut looked awesome averaging more than 6 boards a game. Walker is less dangerous than Blonut inside the arc, because at least Blonut can it the jumper (thanks to his hight). Not to mention that he's 10x quicker than Walker. Walker is so unathletic that even my grandmother would block every attemt that he makes inside the arc. This is just about his athletic ability, Why would we sign him for excatly? To reach the conference finals? Whether we sign him or not, we're not getting past Indiana, Miama or Detroit. So why waist mony on him? We're not going to be NBA champs in the next 2 seasons, but you would rather us waisting cap space on a vet on a moment that we're not contenting over the redhead who makes 3 mill a year, even his most probable his last 2/3 years are teams options over Walker?
If you don't have anything to say except a trade that NOBODY on this board even mentioned, declaring the most stupid thing to be obvious. Don't post at all. Because franckly, your last 2 posts in this threath have proven 2 things. 1) you know !!!GREENIAC!!! about the business side off the NBA. 2) You can't even get your facts shreat before you post.
I may be out of line, i may be banned from this site, but i'm sick & tired of these moronic posts!!

The only thing I would like is for the name calling to stop... It's not needed to make a point. That goes for us all - IMO.

Yes, please refrain from calling names. Oss, I know what point you are trying to get accross, but calling Jambr's ideas ignorant and ridiculous is not the correct way to get it across.
Jambr, please refrain from name calling back. Just a reminder in case you take Oss' comments the wrong way.

What are you talking about Ossric? I just said that it is retarded for Mr. Blount to not be included. Why is that a "ridiculous post". The reason I stopped posting here in the first place is because half of you are know-it-all nerds who have nothing better to do than to put others down.
As for my opinions on certain players, they are just that-opinions. There are many many many other options besides Scalabrine. And I am just stating one. Before you freak out on someone next time, read what you say first- because you are TOTALLY out of line.

Listen, I am trying to be very cool about this. Thank you guys for letting me post here, and I will probably be back again at some point, but until you get rid of these total dorks (he actually called me an "ignoramous"- haha), I am not really comfortable throwing out my opinions here.
Take care, see ya guys again sometime...

Jambr380
i would like to apologize for my previous post. I respect your opinion & it was uncalled for to call you names etc. Let it be a lesson to all of us, don't post when you come home after a night out, your emotions have a tendency to be out of control. I remembered it as soon as i woke up, this is really embarrassing.

Hey Ossric, I admire you for being man enough to apologize. And I'm glad that you felt bad for what you said. It shows that you have a conscious. Some guys won't even think twice about what they said or whom they hurt. It shows that you are a good person ;D
