BUT, if get the cap right, the Cs could only offer AW the mid-level exemption of around $5 million within the cap. And DA has just spent $3 million of that. We can resign Walker for more than the MLE since he's a player from our roster. We're not limited to the MLE as other teams over the cap are. The MLE only counts for FA that haven't played on your roster in the past season. To give you an example, NY is way over the cap, but next year they could resign Hardaway to another 10+ mill a year if they choose soo. Other teams over the cap can't make that offer. (must have something to do with "Bird-rights") Anyway, Ainge doesn't want to sign Walker for more then what the MLE is worth, meaning +- 5.2 million. He could, but he won't. Only in a sign & trade scenario would Danny sign Walker for more $$$.

Thanks, Os.
Had missed that along the way.
With lots of other stuff!
I wonder why DA has hung on that figure? Why that as opposed to 6 or 7 mil? I understand not doing anything close to the max. If he wants AW, I think he would hvae to do something at least in the Blount range.
Of course, he can always go up. His ocmments didn't make it sound as though he is trying too hard. If I wanted a guy back, I would think I would have at least said, "Get back with me before..."
Of course, the only deal he made that I question was dumping Songaila.

If he wants AW, I think he would hvae to do something at least in the Blonut range. Since most teams can't offer Walker more than the MLE. Some teams have the cap space but will most likely spend it on other FA's ---> Redd, Allen, Swift, Curry etc. If nobody else is going to offer Walker more than the MLE, why should Danny give him more? Walker can only hope that some of the teams with cap space will miss out on the FA market, otherwise his only hope of getting more than the MLE would be true a s&t with Boston. It's all about market value...

Okay, so I know I haven't been on in a couple of months, but been extremely busy with work...have checked in every now and then- just no messages (had to reactivate my account even)
Anyway, I almost pooped my pants when I saw the celtics were going to sign bright red scalabrine for 5 YEARS!! Seriously, what is 2 mill a year more(for fewer years) to sign Toine??! I don't know what I am going to do watching this fluorescent hairball "husteling" up and down the court. The reason he is considered to work so hard is because he ISN'T good. A poor mans David Eckstein, in my opinion- but uglier. I know you guys try to put a positive spin on everything, but this is wayyyy too long for a player who will be absoultely USELESS for us. If we are going to get someone who sucks, I would rather have someone less annoying.
Antoine would be a much more serviceable player for us-even Blonut is more useful. I loved the draft, but Ainge has lost his mind!!

Is Davis and Scalabrine an upgrade over Blonut and Walker? Yes, because we would have two players who play hard and stay within themselves (in other words, stick to what they can do) whereas Blonut barely had a pulse last year and Walker plays as hard as anyone but often tries to do too much. It would give us more stability and free up resources (Davis' expiring $13.9 million deal) much sooner so we can afford to re-sign our young players as their contracts come up for renewal, rather than having long term $ tied up in Blonut and Walker. Plus in Davis, Al will have the perfect tutor to shore up his weaknesses -- boxing out consistently and defensive positioning/concentration. I agree with those points Mev. Long term I think it potentially makes things fit. Initially though I think Walker helps us more and gives us a slightly better asset to have around in general. Blount? who cares. Getting rid of him is a nice bonus, although he can play at times and is potentially better than either Davis or Scalabrine as well. So talentwise I dont thnk we get better. Contract wise and how things fit I agree. That sort of deal would make sense, it still is dependant on how much Antoine wants though and if a sign and trade would work. Plus whether or not Ainge is still in the process of attaining assets or if he is starting to mold this team a bit more and cut back a bit at this point.

AW fans- Let go. I see what made you like him. This is a whole new squad that can do with-out. I do respect your loyalty to this player.

Please C17. That is a pretty ignorant statement. The Celtics do have a much better record with Walker than without if I remember correctly. How about putting your bias aside?

Bias? I like AW too, in the day we needed him. I really like the guy - just not the game he has now. Now. I'm looking at what I see as the 'Big Picture'. Like I said I respect your loyalty. I mean that.

See that's where your wrong. It's not about loyalty. That is an ignorant statement. I'm all about the future of the C's. Im just open minded I guess.

Not just about me. I wish you would stop using this...
"ignorant"
Come on CF, please. Not needed. I'll listen to anything you have to say. Until that word comes into play. When it does, I don't give a crap.

I must have worded something wrong earlier. Hell no. I look forward to your posts, more than you know. You are green in-and-out, I see that. I just don't like the negative words, in responce. No need for it - IMO.

An eye and for an eye haha. It's nothing personal, I've just heard that response before and its stupid. I'm sorry. Just because you don't 'like' walker's game anymore, don't take it out on me for having an open mind.
