Bird the coach, and Bird the GM are different. Bird was a great coach, who got the most of that team. Bird, them GM however, the only 2 deals that stick out in my mind are when he signed Chroshere to a big deal (and now he rides the pine), and trading Harrington (not even sure what he got for him?). Indiana got Stephen Jackson for Al Harrington. And I agree Bird was a better coach than he was a GM (so far).

Ainge is a better gm than Larry. Maybe it would have been detrimental for Bird to return to our team in a GM like role. Maybe it just wasn't meant to happen.

Eric Pincus’ latest reply
I talked to my Celtic guy and he says the priorities for the team in the draft are
1 (Yaroslav) Korolev 2 Ukic
I should hear back on other things later this week . . . if anything else is brewing, trades, etc.

Right on, Joe. Keep it coming ;D
Korolov or Ukic? All those trips to europe to scout the talent overseas are finally paying off.

Korolev will be gone by 18. The clippers are taking him.

"Korolev will be gone by 18. The clippers are taking him. "
Chad Ford: The only legit one we've heard (and been able to verify) is for Russian forward Yaroslav Korolev. But even that one is a bit shaky. Although Russian sources are claiming it's the Clippers, and the Clippers, off the record, are admitting that they like the kid, the team issued a classic nondenial for the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday morning. "Of course we're not going to commit; we're not going to mention anything," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "We commit to everybody in the draft, and whoever we get, we get."
Ryan Rusillo of WWZN on Celtics' draft plans: said the Celts will be "swinging deep" with the pick. That is, they'll be looking to get a guy who has the potential to develop into a major contributor down the road. In other words, they'll be picking for huge upside rather than someone to step in and necessarily help right away.

Wallace (scouting foreign athletes) owes us Celtics fan bigtime for the 2001 draft.

KEEP IT COMING, JOE! ;D
So that's our game plan, huh? Well, I guess its safe to say that we can look forward to seeing a very raw player called when the Commisioner anounces the 18th pick of the draft. Russillo didn't say that we wouldn't take a proven college player, just that we are going to take a player who has the best long term potential. To me, this signals the very young guys like high school players and europeans. Maybe Blatche over Ryan Gomez, or Monta Ellis over Daniel Ewing, etc.

It might be predictable now with the draft just 1 week away, I say its Leni Roku Ukic 1st, Jack 2nd and maybe Webster 3rd. Tough call.
