We have definitely improved our roster compared to last year's, and there's absolutely no way we will be worse than last year's record. THIS DOES NOT MEAN WE ARE GUARANTEED TO BE IN THE PLAYOFFS--though I think we have a chance with the players we have right now.
If we want to have a good shot getting into the playoffs, and regaining some recognition in the league again, Ainge needs to go out and get help at the 5. As it is, Perk is our only true Center, and he can't carry the load himself (can't count on Theo to be healthy for the entire year). When he goes out to take a breather, we need another 5 in there. Powe, Gomes, Davis, and Scalabrine aren't 5's (too short), and though Jefferson can spell some minutes there, its wiser to get a true 5 instead of forcing 4's to be 5's.
More than getting a veteran PG, having another big man is of higher priority. PG's in our system generally refers to someone who brings the ball up the court. (Alright, that's a bit of an exageration--they have more value than that) In a pinch, Pierce or Ray Allen (and even Tony Allen) can bring the ball up the court and initiate our offense. But rebounding and defense are our achilles heal, and without additional depth at the 5, we are stretching ourselves thin.
I'd be disappointed if Ainge feels our depth at the 5 is good enough. If we go into the regular season without adding another Center, I feel we are asking for trouble.
We've been tossing around a few names, such as Darko Milicic and Marcus Camby (JHVOS mentions Rasheed Wallace). Not sure if Ainge has any interests in those guys, but I at least hope he's looking hard at Center possibilities.

Me2. Right now we are a borderline playoff team. We add a solid big man and we can challenge in the east. I think Ratliff will get swapped for someone. I just hope it happens soon.

Hey, just for kicks, let me throw this idea out there.
Shaquille O'Neil
Heck, Shaq is just a shell of his former self. But in our attempt to win the East this season (just to excite the city of Boston and give them a taste of glory again), we can trade for Shaq and give him one last hurrah before heading into the sunset of his illustrative career.
Shaq Jefferson Pierce Ray Allen Rajon
C'mon, that's gotta sound good, right? Shaq never played alongside a PF of Jefferson's skills, and with both Paul Pierce and Ray Allen providing stardom and firepower from the perimeter, Shaq doesn't need to be a 20 pt scorer any more. He's more like a big time compliment to our Big 3.
I think the Heat know that they won't be winning anymore titles with this bunch of guys (not enough supporting casts around Wade and Shaq). At this point, they should be looking to rebuild.
Why would Shaq want to come here? Think about this for the history books. Shaq has already brought the Lakers 3 championships in recent years, and has revived that organization from the slums. He has an opportunity to do the same in Boston (maybe not helping us win 3 consecutive titles, but possibly reviving our heartbeat). He has a chance to be a savior-type for both the Lakers and the Celtics--two of sports most storied franchises. He can be a legend for two of the best rivaling teams in sports. He can make a claim that Bird, Magic, Russel, Wilt, or Cousy can't make.
Problem is, his contract is enormous. He's getting 20 mill per year for the next 3 seasons. But maybe he'll retire after this season, or after next season (especially if we are able to win a championship in any of these seasons).
Since the Heat are looking get back young players to build around, why not offer Theo's expiring contract, Ryan Gomes, and Gerald Green? In return, we get back Shaq and either Dorrell Wright or Daquan Cook (a wing player to replace Gerald). We have Powe and Davis to fill in for Gomes, and though Gerald has higher potential than Wright and Cook, these two aren't slugs by any means.
How's this sound?

Or maybe Alonzo Mourning? He was a big time shot blocker last year, even though he only got 20 mpg (he averaged 2.3 bpg--good for 6th in the league).
Yeah, I know I'm naming a bunch of has beens, and they are certainly just short term options. But I think our window of opportunity is rather small (maybe 3 years) if we want to win a title with Pierce and Ray Allen. So we have to get the most impactful players we can without sacrificing too much of our young core. I think Shaq qualifies under these requirements, and we can probably get Alonzo for much less (he's only on the books for another year at 2.7 million).

I would take the diesel. Give him one last chance at a ring. We put Shaq on this team and we have as much a chance to win as anyone. I just cant stand his free throw shooting, but Shaq would be a good guy to have around.

Shaq would never come here. He has said a million times that he'll only play in a warm weather city, and we aren't nearly good enough to convince him that we're on the verge of winning a title. This was a team that lost close to 60 games last year.

Here Here! Camby is just what we need. But the question is, what will it take to get him? Hows about: Ratz Telfair Davis/Powe (their pick) next year's number #1(unprotected!) for Camby Najera Would that be enough? Would we need to throw in Green?

I would love to get my hands on Shaq but, he makes too much money. Not to mention, like someone has already mention Shaq loves the warm weather why would he accept a trade to boston? Morning isn't a bad idea as well. Only problem is he might pull the same stunt he did with Toronto few years back. He also playing for Miami out of respect. I can't see Riley trading him away at this point in Alonzo career.
I did mention making a move for Wallace becuz I know he's available and his price range is at a all-time low. If we can get Wallace for a decent price (Theo + prospect) I wouldn't mind taking him on even with his emotional attitude. He's one of those players if your team is winning he'll be a good soldier. If not, he's very vocal about his opinion. If I were Ainge, i would talk to Detroit to get a feel in what they're doing as far as future plans. If we want a good mid-range shooter and good post-defender then rasheed is our guy.

Sheed would be good. I dont mind his attitude as long as he doesnt get kicked out of games and hurt the team. He tends to do that sometimes. Sheed and Camby are the two best options imo. I know Detroit was looking to go another direction and I thought he would be a good option to look at a while back, but now they've resigned billups, and do you think they would trade him in conference?

The more way's that you look at it the more way's you have to say from a cap standpoint Krilenko is the perfect fit.Theo,Telfair and Gomes contracts fit like a glove.Side by side to Krilenko. Also he is only 26/27 years old.And he can play either forward position. If he comes back and play's like he did 2 years ago we have a player who is much better than Camby,Younger. And like many people on the site i do think he is not the best fit.But I have a feeling that he just might be all we can get/and the best that we can get without giving up Big Al or Gerald.

Trouble with AK's contract is that it runs for several more years, and it increases every year. Near the end his deal, that will be one of the worst contracts in the league.

But where would we put Kirilenko? He's a lot more of a SF than a PF, and if we put him at SF, what happens with Pierce or Ray Allen? Or if we use Kirilenko at PF, does Big Al play the 5, where he'd be at a disadvantage?

Team needs another 5, without giving up current roster people. Owners may need to pay some luxury tax to get what we need. Doesn't have to be a starter. A 20-minute banger.
