If we have any advantage in this game it is because the Cavs will be playing the second of back to back games after playing in San Antonio the night before. Celtics are coming off a grueling road trip but will be off the night before.
We don't have the Pierce/James matchup to look forward to. The Szczerbiak/James matchup just doesn't seem to have the same ring to it. Hopefully either Gomes will be on James or they will be doubling him, because Wally would have trouble defending him even if he was healthy and he has no chance now.
Keys to the Game:
Defense: In Portland the team showed signs of life on defense. Hopefully they can take another step forward and play good defense against the Cavs. We can't possibly outscore them and so will need to depend on stops if we are going to win.
Shot Selection We need to take it to the basket whenever possible and be sure we get good shots when we shoot from the outside. Wally definitely needs to take it to the basket. We also need to concentrate on getting the ball to Jefferson in the paint.
Defend the paint: In addition to defense in general, we have to make a concerted effort to defend in the paint. If we don't, James and Ilgauskas will have a field day on dunks and layups.
Pass the ball: Too often our offense gets stagnant with players trying to do too much. We need to pass the ball to find the open man and get the best shot. We also need to pass the ball up court to break the defenses down instead of always dribbling and walking the ball up the court.
