The only thing those two have in common is that neither are starters on a championship caliber team due to their lack of offense. It is impossible to start a guy or play them big minutes when they make you go 4 on 5 on offense with how the rules have changed to favor the offensive player in todays game.

Question for those of you who know how signing players work.
If KD wants out of Golden State, and he has the option to opt out of his contract this summer, is there anything stopping him from signing with any team that wants him, even for the MLE (if that’s what Durant chooses)?
People coming up with sign and trade ideas, but I’m wondering if that’s necessary? If he wants to play for us, and all we have is the MLE, if he doesn’t mind making that small amount, can he sign with us?

He can sign for any amount as long as the team has cap room. I don't see him doing that though. He's already given up money to play for GS.

I don't see that motivation for him. I can see him wanting to be the undisputed [HASH]1 guy on a title contender, because the perception (which I'm sure he's aware of) is that GS won before him, and this year are winning (so far) without him, so he was a nice "extra piece" but wasn't needed. I don't think it's true, because he played great in the Finals, and helped keep the team alive one year when Curry was hurt, but he may feel underappreciated by the basketball public - if not his teammates. So I think it's less about beating the Warriors as winning as "The Guy". Would joining another All-Star team do that for him? If I'm right of course.

It's pretty hilarious these guys want to take the easy way out but they don't want to be perceived that way. I have totally lost respect for Durant. But I lost respect for this entire generation of players. I respect Giannis. I kinda respect Kawhi for various different reasons. I respect Lillard. I respect the Nuggets. The rest of the league is having a down era. It's nowhere near as good as the 80s or 90s or early 2000s because the players are lazier with more ADHD and more power at a young age. They get coddled in college more too. I don't think you can compare any more the freshman year of Stephon Marbury vs the freshman year of Ben Simmons. I think Marbury went to a couple college classes and went "OMG! College is hard! I can't do this!" I think Simmons got paid and going to a class never entered his mind even momentarily.

It's definitely different. We, as fans, also get too much information about our players so we know their every feeling and thought.
There's nothing wrong with working the system and building a superteam because you'll have the championships to show it was worth it. However, I also still cling to the ideal way - stick with your team and try to be the piece you build around.

Rumors can have a tinge of truth in it, but mostly they’re a waste of time (but we still hound after em 😁). I just don’t get the “Kyrie to LA” rumor that’s floating around. If he thought our lockerroom was toxic, take a look at the entire Lakers organization!! That’s a mad house ready to implode on itself.

Looking ahead to summer league news, we are inviting Kendrick Ray to play for our summer league team. Maybe a tryout and a way to get him exposure. m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhZhKflbSkc#searchingIf he works out well, maybe our Wanamaker replacement.

I can see the LA rumor to have some ground due to testing his "leadership" capabilities as the lonesome star failed badly. By going back to LA, all media pressure/stress goes back to Lebron's hand rather than Kyrie being the face of the franchise.

To me, Kyrie going back to LA to play with big brother LeBron would be humiliating and for that reason, I can't see it.

Now what happens that Durant is likely out for next season, Kyrie can't ride his coattails anywhere. Would a NY team be dumb enough to give a guy a max contract that wouldn't play until 2020? It seems likely that KD stays in GSW since he has another year on his contract and then leaves after next year unless someone pays him 30-40M to rehab all next season.

I'd agree that he'll most likely stay now, but I saw a list of NBAers who tore their achilles and how many days it was between games for them and it ranged from the mid-200s to low 300s, meaning he could miss the whole regular season but be back for the playoffs.

But just like Gordon it is about 2 years to come fully back and by that time KD will be 33. Unfortunately there is a very good chance that we saw the end of this version of KD.

Really unfortunate for KD. He knew he wasn’t ready and still rushed back cause his team was facing elimination. Speedy recovery, KD.
One thing about KD’s body and style of play is he can still be a highly productive 3rd or 4th banana on the right team. 7 footers with a quick and high release can still do damage (see Dirk, who recently celebrated his 89th birthday). Even if Durant never returns to his superstar form, he can be what Ray Allen was for us — or at worst, what Eddie House was for us.
