I can't blame IT for being mad. It has to hurt. Dude was just out helping recruit Hayward to the C's a few months ago. Hayward even said that playing with IT4 was a big selling point.
That said, getting this team to a championship level is Ainge's job. End of story. You don't get into the GM game to make friends. There is no way to be a successful GM without leaving a trail of damaged relationships behind you. Hopefully time will help heal this a bit, but it's always gonna sting for IT4.

I don't blame IT for being hurt, but this is pain talking. And, while I don't think he can see it, his own total confidence that he was here for the long run is a big part of the reason this hurts so much. I've said this here before, but I always winced a bit when IT would talk about "what we're building here", because it was just so obvious that he was setting himself up for exactly this.
In time Isaiah will heal and I'm sure at some point they'll talk.

Yup, unfortunately it is what it is. You can hear it underneath Pierce's sarcasm, that he still takes light hearted jabs at Ainge for trading him away. But he don't hate Ainge for having done that, cause he understands that Danny was doing what's best for the organization (and by the looks of it, trading Pierce and Garnett was indeed the best thing to do). Paul learned to deal with it, forgive Ainge, and still have a good working relationship with his former employer.

Yeah, IT totally embraced the city of Boston, corralled the team as if they were his own brothers, and talked about the future with much certainty that he'll be the leader heading that team. I think for the first time in his career, he found his place. The situation in Boston was everything he wanted. He was the leading star, his team was succeeding. He was loved by all. Naturally, he opened up his heart, let his guard down, and was expecting to be a fixture here for a very long time. Which made it all the more painful because of the harsh way it all ended. For sure, it's the pain talking right now.

From IT's own mouth, of why he was upset about the trade: nesn.com/2017/10/heres-why-isaiah-thomas-was-upset-when-celtics-traded-him-to-cavs/“I felt like I was building my own thing in Boston and we were close,” Thomas told Lee Jenkins of Sports Illustrated. “We were so close! Dang! That’s what hurts. We went from the lottery to the conference finals. We just got Hayward. We were right there. Think of all the national TV games we were about to have.” I don't think Ainge thought they were close to being champs. And could Isaiah guarantee to have another MVP type season?

I know we added Hayward, not to mention Tatum, but the gap between us and the Cavs was huge.

I know we added Hayward, not to mention Tatum, but the gap between us and the Cavs was huge. I really think when we all look back at this move after Kyrie resigns with us that this was the move that put Boston back on top. Last year was the celling for that team and Danny knew it and as you mentioned we were no where close to being competitive with the Cavs. Brad had gotten the most out of that talent deprived roster of role players. Throw in IT's injury and this trade was a no brainer. People can nitpick about if we gave up too much, but in the end I don't think it will matter what we gave up due to the success that the team will be enjoying. We got rid of a guy who was 99% heart who was injured and some role players for a top 10 player in the league. I really think that what people are missing in all of this is that Crowder and IT were maxed out last year as far as their production. How will they fare now with a coach that is nowhere near as good as Brad is? IMO they can only go down from here. While on the other hand, Kyrie will be able to enjoy the best coach that he has had since he was at Duke, which means we have a top 10 player in the league who may very easily end up top 5. All that we know is that Kyrie will get better under Brad which should be scary for the league, the same goes for Heyward. I enjoyed IT while he was in Boston and thank him for everything. I will always admire him not only as a professional, but as a person for what he did during last years playoffs. But unfortunately he is not a max contract type player and is not a starter on a championship caliber team. He is a great 6th or 7th guy who scores off of the bench on a title contender. I wish him nothing but the best....after he leaves the Cavs and as long as he isnt' a Faker.

I agree that last year's team was pretty much at it's ceiling. Sure they would have added Tatum and Smart and Rozier would both be improved, but they weren't going to be getting a lot better. They would be contenders that never made it to the Finals. Kind of like OKC. I love IT and he was incredibly fun to watch but I never did think that he is a max player. I think the fact that he was making a lot of noise that he deserved a max contract possibly helped Danny to make the decision to trade him - That and the hip injury and the fact that Kyrie is bigger, better and younger. The Celtics upgraded considerably. It's funny but my husband mentioned last night that the Cavs have more Celtics on them than the Celtics do The Cavs had 5 former Celtics (IT, Jae, Zizic, Green, and Perk (although Perk was waived today)) While the Celtics returned just 4
