How many draft picks do you think any one team can keep in a 4 year period? A finals contending team, to boot... Crowder is the only one I might regret.

I'm definitely going to miss Jae! He has always been underrated but he is going to make the Cavs better.
If IT is going to be out until the All Star break like some Cleveland media is saying, the Celtics would have really been in a tough place. The Cavs have Derrick Rose to fill in and the Celtics only have Shane Larkin?

I was a bit confused as to why Larkin was signed. I guess for insurance. But I sure wouldn't want to be in the spot where we would have to start him.

He's our 4th PG. Practice guy.

The more one thinks about this trade, the more it makes sense that Danny pulled the trigger, even though we sacrificed the BRK pick.
We were facing the very real possibility of losing IT -- whether from this hip injury that might limit his effectiveness both short term and long term, as well as the very real possibility of losing him to free agency cause (if we didn't bring the brinks truck, IT might've walked).
If we lost IT, we'd lose a big chunk of our offense, and that would knock us down significantly (remember how awful our offense looked when IT wasn't scoring?).
We would've needed to find a big time scoring threat if we lost IT, and we essentially landed a similar type of scorer in Kyrie Irving.
Ok, so we also gave away the BRK, which is what I think most people don't like about this trade. But as we all know, and need to be reminded of (frequently) is the draft is a huge gamble. Though these young college (and international) kids have big potential, 90% of them fail become superstars and stars. Odds are against them of even reaching the level that Kyrie is at.
So rather than taking a gamble, we get a sure thing in Kyrie.
Big question marks with IT's health and next contract Huge gamble with the draft (chances of getting a top 3 are slim + we don't know if the player drafted will pan out)
or
Kyrie Irving

Irving meets two criteria: 1. A player worth a max contract. 2. Age, relative to the other players on the team.
The BRK pick was the sweetener in the deal.

The Nets may be better this year. I read that some GMs expect them to be no worse than 5th from the bottom. That may be wishful thinking, but they have nothing to tank for and are going to play hard. So the Nets pick next year may not be as valuable as the past two Nets picks.
And I agree that there were reasons for Danny to make that trade. I don't see the Celtics giving IT a max contract and so he may have walked for nothing. His hip is really a big question. He may be back sooner but then again it may be a nagging thing that could limit him. If it did, then the Celtics would be in trouble.
As sad as I am to see IT and Jae go, I think Danny made the right move.

In all honesty, it looks like Brad is excited to have Kyrie and Gordon as well.
Keep in mind that our coaching staff was said to have wanted more offensive players. There were talks that we were interested in Carmelo Anthony -- which just goes to show you how much they really wanted more scoring.

Stevens, and staff must have been frustrated when opponents would score, and the team would go into a draught. BOS had too many limited offensive players.

It would drive me crazy when we'd go into our scoreless funks. And we usually did it on national television.

Reading this quote from Draymond Green:
“[He] could have gotten traded anywhere. But he pretty much said, ‘I don’t care where I go. I’m going to make it happen.’ That says a lot about who he is, as a competitor. His character. That says a lot about him . . .
“[The] willingness to do that, knowing the pressure that comes with that, and saying ‘I'm ready to do it. Let’s do it.' That's what stood out to me, more than anything.”
This tells me 1 of 2 things:
1) Kyrie really wanted to get out of the situation he was in. Whether it was Lebron, and/or Tyronne lue, and/or the CLE organization, Kyrie didn't care about being traded to a contender or a lottery team -- he just wanted out.
2) Kyrie thinks that highly of his abilities that he was willing to be traded to wherever the Cavs would trade him to -- whether it was to a good team (like us) or a lottery team (like Phoenix). Kyrie didn't have much control over where he was going (though he had the trade kicker, which would hinder a team from offering a mother load).

He wanted out for reasons not so clear, however I think the quality of the team he was sent to would determine if he resigns. I highly doubt he resigns to a poorly run team in a small market. However, BOS is none of the that.
