You have a point Derren. The Cavs have a brand new GM without a lot of experience. This is really his first big deal with any team. It doesn't give him a good look. He may think that he's being very smart trying to get more by bringing up questions now but it's definitely not good practice. Yes, Altman has to be very careful about how he handles this. On the one hand, he has to know that Lebron could leave next season -- so his best move will be to garner assets (draft picks, young players) to get a head start on a rebuild. On the other hand, he needs to keep this team competitive THIS year. Well, he can very well get that by going through with our trade package. IT is likely to return at some point this season -- maybe even at the start of the season. There is a video of him 2 months ago, lightly jumping up and down in excitement when we signed Gordon Hayward -- a guy with a career ending hip injury would not do this. And in no way does IT give the impression that he feels his career is in jeopardy. I'm pretty confident that IT will be playing this year, at pretty much the same level he's capable of playing. Then you have Jae Crowder, one of the better 2 way players in the league. CLE needs more of these kind of players (as does every team, not named Golden State Warriors). And then, of course, CLE will have BRK's unprotected 1st round pick, that could possibly turn out to be the #1 overall pick. That'll be huge for a rebuild. Now, if PHO offers Bledsoe, Josh Jackson AND their 1st round pick, then that may be better than our offer -- PHO could be a worse team than BRK, plus they get a young player with a high ceiling (Jackson), and a pretty good PG in Bledsoe. But I haven't heard that PHO is willing to offer this package. It just makes sense for Altman to go through with this trade. Ainge is not fleecing him.

Don't forget that Kyrie said he is willing to sit out camp if he is not traded off the team.
By not trading Kyrie (either to us, or to some other team), CLE will have unwanted drama and media attention galore heading into the season.
They do not have much leverage. I hope Ainge stands firm in his offer.

Reports are that Danny feels that they were honest and up front with everything about IT's hip and is looking at holding a hard line on not giving up more. It's going to be interesting to see how this all comes out.

It's going to be interesting to see how this all comes out. Altman is soon going to find out he is no match for Ainge. If he decides to not go through with this trade, Ainge will simply move on and and find some other way to improve this team (he'll still probably have to move Isaiah and Crowder, as I question whether our partnership with them will be fully restored). Altman will then be faced with the daunting task of having very little leverage in negotiations with other teams because they know Altman has to trade Kyrie. Altman has a ticking bomb in his hands, and he knows he has to get rid of it.

There's no way they walked into this trade without INITALLY having concerns about IT's hip. At the very start of Danny's and Altman's conversation about Kyrie, or whenever Isaiah became part of the trade package, I find it impossible to think that it never crossed Altman's mind that there might be a problem with IT's hip. It could never have been just a background thought that maybe IT's hip could be a problem.
Altman had to have known about it, raised concerns about it, asked Ainge to give proof (or reassurance) that his hip isn't going to be a big deal, and been comfortable enough with the medical report, that he agreed to the deal.
The absolute only way Altman would have agreed to trade for Isaiah, EVEN though he knew there were red flags about the hip, is IF he didn't care about Isaiah's part in the trade. If all Altman really wanted was the BRK pick, and he took on Isaiah because he's an expiring contract next summer, then that's why he would have signed off on the trade even though he knew IT's hip could be a problem.

CLE values the pick first, because it could be flipped for another star player, or used in a rebuild.
Imagine the same deal, minus IT. The going rate for trading for an all-star. Fans thought Danny was getting fleeced. No. IT is damaged goods, which people overlooked. >Brooklyn pick (pick) >Crowder (veteran) >Zizic (young player)

How about we give them Smart and we get their 2020 1st round pick (top 5 protected) or their 2021 1st (unprotected)?
Hate to see this trade fall through!

The only reason I'm even mildly interested in this trade now is IT's hip. Other than that it was a huge overpay

An NBA reporter that knows Cleveland said on CSNNE that he wouldn't be surprised if the Cavs planned all this drama from the beginning. Not a good look for the Cavs.

Since nothing new, one way or the other, has come out in the last 48 hours, such as CLE's GM Koby Altman stating publically that Ainge hasn't been forthright and truthful about Isaiah's hip, or Ainge coming out saying he's been honest and transparent about it and won't budge on his trade offer, I'm going to assume this trade IS going to happen.

Maybe a second rounder. Not a first. Cavs are getting greedy. I'd also be ok with Danny telling them to pound sand.

I wouldn't give them anything just out of principle alone.
