I think Miami is a team that can retool on the fly because of the nature of their location and what type of player they can attract in any free agency. Adding Hayward won't make them title contenders, but that leaves them open to enticing someone else next year or the year after. In this day and age it pays to have the luxuries (weather, less taxes, nightlife) more so than the basketball pedigree in the FA market when courting the top players in the NBA.

Hayward appears to be a solid family man who liked it in Utah. So, I don't think the night life will have any draw for him. But the weather and taxes may be enticing. I know I sure do like having no state income tax. But Brad Stevens knows him and knows h is game and that has to be a plus for the Celtics. I read that the Celtics pitch will be basketball centered and how Hayward will fit into the Celtics system and why it's his best option.

I wish the league would think about doing something to remove the advantage the no-tax states have in recruiting. Maybe change the max they can pay to even out the net pay for the player. Teams like the Celtics would still have to pay more, but at least they would not be at a disadvantage in signing free agents.

Hayward getting in early to meet up with Brad. Liking it! You can just see the bond between the two. How often do you get to play with your college coach after leaving for the NBA? Well...unless Calipari joins the NBA then he'll have plenty of them around.

To me, if their relationship is genuine, this is the deal breaker. If Hayward has utmost respect for Brad as a person, and his coaching, gotta think that trumps any tie breaker.

I hadn't thought of it until this morning, but Stevens not only coached Hayward in college, he successfully recruited him at Butler. And here we are again. Stevens recruiting Hayward.

Would it be too much to show a clip of Larry's retirement ceremony when he said "if you haven't played for the Celtics you haven't played professional basketball"?

I hadn't thought of this but yes, it should be standard practice to include that in any recruitment effort. What better endorsement can you get? And yes, the fact that Brad recruited Hayward to Butler should give him a little bit of an edge in this recruitement, hopefully.

And Bird has Indiana roots as well!! Hayward can be the next Indiana guy to who became a great Celtics star.

I've been watching Twitter for news and it's driving me nuts. One post will say that Hayward is leaning toward the Celtics and the very next one will say he is leaning toward the Heat. And then there will be another one a couple posts down that says he is staying with the Jazz. It's really getting crazy!!
