From what I'm reading, the Celtics' pursuit of free agents Hayward or Griffin will most likely precede any trade for Paul George, largely because of salary cap restrictions. So by the time we'd be engaged in serious talks with Indy for George, we should know 1) if we have landed a big fish and 2) if the Clippers are losing both Griffin and Chris Paul - which would hugely affect the value of the Clips '19 pick we own. Meanwhile, this week will see us cutting ties with a bunch of guys to clear the cap space needed for a FA. It was also reported on ESPN that PG is open to signing an extension with a team that has Heyward on it as PG stated that he would love to play on the same team as Heyward. ESPN also reported that all we would have to do to make room for both would be to trade either Crowder or Bradley.

It should be pointed out the Clippers pick is lottery protected in 2019 and 2020, and if we don't get it by then we get a second rounder but not till 2022. I am hopeful that if the Clippers lose these guys they'll have a ton of cap space and use it to keep themselves out of the lottery. Essentially this is a non lottery pick by design.

Thanks for pointing that out. I missed that. So given that, I have no issue trading that pick in a move for George.
Very encouraging news regarding what George said about playing with Hayward. Makes getting Hayward even more important.
If we get Hayward and trade for George, there is no room for Crowder anyway, so losing him wouldn't hurt.

Yup, JMost has it right. If the sign Heyward then trade for George Rumors are true, our team is gonna look a lot different next year. Avery Bradley and 1 or 2 of IT4, Crowder, Smart and Brown would have to be included to make contracts match up.

I've thought all along that the Celtics have an advantage because of Brad Stevens. I haven't thought of Miami as a serious competitor to land Hayward. I've been thinking it would either be Boston or Utah. But this article seems to think that Miami will be the team that lands him.

I don't believe Miami as a serious contender for him until he signs there. He has always indicated that he wants to win and Boston is his best chance to win now and in the future.

Boston has an apparent hesitancy to make big moves? That is a pretty stupid comment. Horford was a big move. Trading picks with the Sixers was a big move.
As far as a logjam at Hayward's position, I think if we had Brown, Tatum, Hayward and George you'd see three of them on the court more often than not, if not right away, then in a year or two. Three positions X 48 minutes per game is 144 minutes to divvy up among 4 guys. That's 36 minutes each. Just about what you want.

. <--- That's the grain of salt I take with anything written by Bleacher Report. This guy knows as much as we do about where Hayward will sign.

I guess I shouldn't let myself get worried when I read things like this, but Pat Riley is such a snake and I don't trust him not to do something sleazy to try to sign him.

Marc Stein Verified account @espnsteinline 14m 14 minutes ago More League sources: Cavs, Pacers and Nuggets have discussed a three-way deal that would land Paul George in Cleveland and Kevin Love in Denver
I would not want PG13 in Cleveland.

Yea that sounds terrible having George on the Cavs. What's worse is that I'm sure that whatever deal happens will be a bargain since the Pacers kind of have to trade him for a bag of chips since he's been so public about leaving so early.

Jeff Goodman thinks the odds are not good for the Celtics to land either Haywood or Griffin.
He also said there are players in the league that don’t want to play with Isaiah Thomas. He didn’t mention any names…just that some players don’t want to play with Isaiah because he dominates the ball so much.

Not sure if he actually said that, though. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to rely on the same guys who took us ALL THE WAY to the conference finals! If free agents don't want to come here, fine.

I cannot see this being much of an issue given that most teams have someone established who dominates the ball. Players who really understand the game would see that IT HAD to hold the ball because noone else could generate their own offense. Bradley was more 3 & D whilst Crowder didnt have the ability to create his own separation.

If Hayward had any such concerns, he could easily get on the phone and ask Brad Stevens how this is going to work. Brad will find ways to incorporate Hayward into the offensive gameplan, even with IT.
It may be a concern with other guys, but Hayward knows how Brad thinks and coaches, knows he is one smart dude who makes the best of whatever is handed to him.
