Gerald never turned out to be what we envisioned him to become. He was traded away only after a couple of seasons with us, and played for many different teams in the meantime, and now as a 30 year old, Gerald Green is signing a one year deal to play for us again.
Ainge and Brad said they wanted to get more efficient on offense, and if there is one thing Gerald can don (aside from dunking the ball) is score points.
Not a defender, or much of anything else, I figure Gerald is going to be an option deep off the bench. He doesn't play much defense, so maybe Brad will use him sparingly.

Keeping up with Gerald Green has been one of my guilty pleasures over the years. There was just something about him that I liked. I know he has been a knucklehead at times but I've kept an eye on him. I still wear my Gerald Green Dunk champion tee shirt. Brad has a way of bringing out the best in a player so hopefully that holds true with Green also.

I kinda liken him to our poor version of Harrison Barnes. A guy off the bench who has some height, shooting ability, attacks the basket, can post up, hit three's.
Yeah, like you said, FL, Brad is able to bring out the good in players, such as Jae Crowder, Evan Turner, and now he has a chance to work on Gerald.

Also, we should consider the effects Gerald will have in practices as he battles Jaylen Brown. Gerald can match Jaylen's athleticism and explosiveness to a degree, and challenge him in ways that maybe Jae won't be able to.

Cool beans! I looked at the available free agents and saw his name. Wasn't sure what he could do here.
How much did he sign for and how soon can we trade him for a big three.
j.k. welcome back Gerald

Green can also tell Jaylen what not to do if he wants to be successful. Gerald has to learn things they very hard way before he finally started to get it.

Along with Green they also signed Zeller to a 2 year guaranteed contract for $8 million a year with a team option on the second year. They are in the process of signing Jackson to a guaranteed contract and Bentil to a partially guaranteed contract.
They are also in discussions with Abdel Nader. Several options are being discussed including the possibility of Nader playing for the D-League’s Maine Red Claws. I read that they are very high on Nader and that he was the hardest worker for them in Summer League.
It appears that Young, Hunter, Bentil, Jackson and Holland will be fighting for the final two roster spots and I could see the others playing with the Red Claws this season. Should be some spirited battles in training camp.
Of course, a trade could change everything and reports are that Danny isn't done trying yet.

Did Ainge figure out that he wasn't going to get a big trade done, and is now going ahead and signing players to fill out the roster? Is he signing these players because he's going to package a bunch of existing contracts in a big trade?

He did say that this isn't necessarily the roster we will see in training camp. It's very interesting that I haven't seen any reports that they have signed Brown.

I just read on ESPN that Zeller's contract is for 8 million a year and not 4 million like I had originally read. If we want to read anything into it, that would work for filler in a trade.

Yeah, otherwise I doubt we'd bring Zeller back, especially at that price. I mean, Brad hardly used Zeller last year.

Now I'm really confused. Half of the reports say that Zeller signed for 2 years 8 million total and half of them say 2 years 16 million. So I'm not sure which it is. I'm going with the Herald that says it's 8 million per year. If he signed for 8 million per year, that's should wake Sully up since he only got a 1 year contract at 6 million.
Also according to Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders, Jaylen Brown has signed his Rookie Scale deal. He says the only two unsigned top 10 picks left are Brandon Ingram and Thon Maker.
