Posey was a great player for us. Ya I know he wasn't worth all he signed for elsewhere.. Crowder reminds me if him. Tough. defender.. But Crowder is younger and better.. and cheap..
why would you trade jae?

I think they are similar players. Posey seems a bit longer, and Crowder seems a bit stronger. Both of them played tough physical defense. Both are role players who can defend and hit the three. Both played with grit and did the dirty work.
Yeah, I'd say they are head to head.

I know Crowder isn't sexy but we would miss him.. And I know we got him cheap. but how do you replace what he brings

I would have loved to return the same team for another go around. On the bench, Sam Cassel, Posey, PJ Brown, Eddie House.

Posey and TA were big losses from that team. I also believe that they are similar. Both are tough and versatile on both ends of the court. I also feel that it would be difficult to replace all that Crowder brings to the team. And as oldtimeball has said he is a bargain!

Role players have so much importance in winning it all. I think if a player like Crowder is locked up for awhile keep them because no one is going to overpay for him.. His value to this team is greater than his trade value.. My concern is can Danny make the right moves to keep a dynasty? Yes he got us one championship but the perkins trade hurt us and cost us a championship. How much fault is his for letting Posey and Tony go.. With what did he replace them?

He definitely dropped the ball on Tony Allen. He wouldn't give him a 4th year on the contract but Memphis did. He mentioned when he signed that he went where he thought he was really wanted. Posey also was looking for an extra year and actually, that worked out pretty good because Posey just kind of faded away and was never really a factor after that season.
I fully agree that trading Perk cost us at least one championship. Danny loves to trade and is always looking for that homerun trade but maybe this time he needs to stay the course and not give up the young core that we have and let them mature together. There is much to be said for chemistry. Patience at this point might be his best bet.

The last thing we want to do is bring in players who will sink the ship. Or move out the players who got us here, and replace them with guys who don't add the same value. Its definitely tricky. But I'm confident that Ainge has been consulting Brad Stevens on every player he's considering.

Thanks .. It is good to hear others expressing frustration over the Perkins trade.
I am not sure that sitting pat is the way to go right now. there is no way this roster as it is develops into a championship dynasty. Overvalued rookies is the red Sox way.. As much as we hope for certain players to do well.. Its a 50, 50 gamble. I think now is the time to make a move. Not mid season. Not next year .. Trade while there is value. Trade up.. Trade trade trade.. You blew the free agency window.. Don't give away your best players for injured rentals.. But trade

What I'm saying is that if Danny can't get a trade where he doesn't have to give up way too much for what he gets, he should just play out what we have now until the trade deadline or until next summer. At the trade deadline, teams may be more pressed to make a trade and Danny will get a better deal. Or next summer there will be a lot of stars who become free agents. I'd rather wait and see what happens rather than make a bad deal. We don't HAVE to make a deal now and that gives Danny the upper hand.

Waiting until the trade deadline has its advantages (but you are taking a chance). If you wait till the deadline, a team that has a player who is set to become a free agent in the summer, knows they have to trade the player or else risk losing him for nothing. At that point, if a team is desperate to recoup something, may have to settle for less than equal value.
But at the same time, what team will give away valuable assets to acquire a player, especially if he's a star player, who may not re-sign with them? That's emptying your pockets for a 3 month rental.

No one wants to make a bad deal just for the sake of making fireworks.
Sometimes the best deal is the one not made.. Somehow we now have to cut salary? I am confused,we were supposed to have room to sign another max contract..

That was at the start of free agency. We had money to sign 2 max contracts. We signed Horford 26 mil. That took up more than half of what remained.
We also re-signed Amir Johnson (12 mil) and Jonas Jerebko (5 mil).
Then today we agreed to terms with Zeller (8 mil), Gerald Green (1+) and Demetrius Jackson (?).
So that's where our money went.

Trouble is, Posey only had one good year after leaving Boston, and that was 2009. And that was the year that KG missed the playoffs. Without KG that team had no shot at a title. In 2010 Posey was toast. DA made a smart move letting him leave. Dude was so bad he was out of the league and some poor team was still stuck paying him.
