The Celtics get the [HASH]3 pick in the draft. They didn't move up, but at least they didn't move down to [HASH]6 like they did the last time. I still think the lottery is rigged somehow. I mean in 50 years for the Celtics to NEVER get the [HASH]1 pick? That's just wrong. In the meantime, Philly gets yet another top pick so they can trade away last year or the year before's top pick. And the Lakers pick second. I think that irks me more than anything. I wonder how many drafts the lottery has gone in the exact order with no one changing position. Now we know where we pick, it's time to start speculating whether Danny will pick or trade it.

I was just thinking today the 3rd pick is the single most critically difficult place for a GM to be in this draft.
The reason is that somewhere between 3 and 9 is a player that will be very good and make people go "Wow!" A Giannis or Porzingis type. A K Love. A Lillard. Probably not a Steph Curry but it's possible. Someone that will outplay his draft position in a big way. Also in that range will be at least one bust. Also in that range will be ok guys that just plain won't move the needle.
It is absolutely 100% Ainge's job to find that guy and to avoid the bust or the non difference maker. We can't be caught with another KO while Giannis is out there. It can't happen.
My prediction is Ainge knows that and does his best to pull off the Ray Allen type trade. No WAY we can get stuck with a Jeff Green. No WAY.

With so little clarity about who is the 3rd best player in the draft, it stands to reason that teams would differ as to whom they would pick if they had the [HASH]3. I wonder if trader Danny could pull a Belichick and trade a few slots down, still get the player he wants, and add something of value, like a future first rounder. Or trade the [HASH]3 and [HASH]16 to the Suns for the [HASH]4 and [HASH]13. We know he's gonna do something with all those 2nd rounders too. Maybe package one or more with a first rounder to move up. Should be a fascinating next few months.

Or trade the [HASH]3 and [HASH]16 to the Suns for the [HASH]4 and [HASH]13. I thought of that same scenario as well. Or, if the Suns were really desperate to move up, maybe the 4th and 13th picks for the 3rd and 23rd? That would leave the C's with the 13th and 16th picks, which would be great ammo if we want to try move up into the 8-10 range. And the suns may be really interested in Bender, since they are already stacked at the guard spot, so Dunn, Murray and Heild probably aren't that high on their wish list.

Danny is in a decent spot here. He will put the number 3 pick on the block and tell the league to bring all their offers to the table and see what happens. He also will bring in practically every prospect for workouts/interviews. But, there is no pressure here. If he doesn't see a deal that he likes, he will keep the pick and draft a really good player. Either way we should improve as a team next year and future years.

Only 3 weeks to go. I haven't heard much about who is working out with the Celtics but that Bender expects to

Danny went over to Europe to scout Bender there along with a couple other prospects.

Danny went over to Europe to scout Bender there along with a couple other prospects. I suspect that has just as much to do with our later picks as anything

I'm very concerned about this draft. I think the [HASH]3 in a 2 player draft is a curse.
Bender...I don't see it at all. I see a Darko
Hield. I like him but am very concerned he turns into Ben Gordon 2.0
Jamal Murray...I sorta like him best because of his age and shooting.
Jaylen Brown...he's not really what we need....of course neither are the guards. I guess we need him more than them.
K Dunn.....maybe another Marcus Smart but not as good. He obviously doesn't want to be here, his offense isn't as good as the others. I think he refuses to work out for us or show us his medical records.
My fear isn't so much that we get a bad player. It's that we get the bad one and everyone else gets a good one. I hope Danny can trade down to 4 or 5 or out entirely.
I would need to hear Bender had a masterful workout like Porzingis to get excited about him and I'm not hearing that. He got almost no time whatsoever in a lower league last year.
