Just over a minute left in the game and we are back to being down by 20 pts. I'll concede this loss.
Well, some glaring things we need to work on, but also some positives from this game. First the positives:
-Perkins is proving to be a rebounding force by leading the team in rebounds the 3rd straight game (actually tied with Gomes for the lead tonight, with 9 boards).
-Ryan Gomes continues to put up pretty good numbers. Could have been a double double guy tonight, but just missed it by 1 pt and 1 rebound. Doc could be tempted to put Ricky on the B-Unit with Gomes going to the starting 5.
-We have an explosive offensive team--when we are in rhythm. Went on huge scoring spurts where we were able to cut the deficit down a pretty hefty margin. This is encouraging because it shows that we are capable of being a high powered offense once our players understand the system and develop into better players.
Negatives:
-we are still turnover prone. On a young team, this is to be expected, but still disappointing.
-Blount and Raef aren't rebounding well. They combined for 3 rebounds in 33 minutes. Delonte West had 3 rebounds in 11 minutes, and he's almost a whole foot shorter than them.
-we aren't getting that many assists. If we are going to be a good passing team in a passing offfense, those assist totals need to spike. But again, this is due to a lot of new players on the team, along with a lot of inexperienced young players playing bigger roles.

Gomes, looking like the steal of the draft.

Gomes, looking like the steal of the draft. It puts fear in me, being a Reed fan. Deep at positions is good. That's why TA and Banks can go.

Yeah, Gomes is looking like he may be a contributor from the very get-go. Definitely a first round talent. What a steal. Ainge is right when he said that getting Gomes at 50 was a bigger steal than getting Green at 18.
C17, Gomes may outplay Justin Reed, but Reed definitely has a spot in the rotation. He's a blue collar worker who does the dirty work. He attacks the basket, which is needed to take some pressure off the perimeter game.

I'm not that quick to ship off TA yet. For most of the year last year he was arguably our best rookie, and is tremendously athletic. I'd like to see what he does when he returns. Ditto with Banks, due to his raw ability.
Nice to see Perkins remain consistent on the glass!!

Yeah, no way am I giving up on Tony Allen. I think he's a phenomenal athlete who can do things on the court on a couple of guys on the team can do. Only Gerald Green has more overall ability than Tony.
Tony may be the best slasher on the team and his ball handling is much underrated. His head is a bit screwy, but that helps him to have that edge.

two things:
first - doc didn't coach the game, he was in florida due to family emergency. tony brown coached the game
second - imagine our lineup if tony allen could play point guard!!!

Mt Perks will lead this team in rebounding if he gets adequate playing time.

This game was lost because of bad point guard play. Dickau has been disapointing so far. If you watched the second half at the start Hinrich was eating Dickau alive. Hinrich alone turned a 9 point deficit into a 20 point deficit in less than 5 minutes. Dickau gave him too much space to shoot and when he would play him tight he would drive by him and that would force Blount to stop the penetration and then Hinrich would dish to Sweetney because Dickau failed to rotate to Blount's man. The only time we went on a run was at the end of the second quarter when Delonte came in and forced Hinrich to play defense. Thats when the celtics went ahead 28 to 27. So far Delonte is the starter in my book.

i only got to watch maybe a third of the raps game and the ast 12 mins of this and I only have a few observations in no order.
I think Gomes and Reed are proving they may be two of the best players on the team. They are good offensively and defensively. Since basketball is a game which involves both offense and defense, and since they can play both it stands to reason they may be two of the better players on the team currently. That leaves us knowing this. We have the sg and sf positions and six players highly capable of playing those positions. Gomes, Reed, Pierce, TA, GG, and Ricky D. There are only 5 positions on the floor. Gomes played pf in college. Reed plays defense better than Gomes and is bigger and not as fast. Reed, Gomes, and Pierce are good rebounders. I suggest this lineup. C - Reed PF - Gomes SF - Pierce SG - GG PG - TA
B unit is
C - Blount PF - Perk SF - Scala SG - RD PG - DWest
It's just a matter of having your best players play. Gomes and Reed are similar in size to Ron Artest. You think Ron or Tayshaun couldn't handle power forwards? Especially the pfs in this league? Did anybody see Chris Bosh the other nite? Small dude. There are some players that can play both forward spots. Guys like Antoine Walker, KG, and Juwan Howard. It just happens that Gomes and Reed can play 3 if needed. The best players play. Make the other team match up to you, like when DA was coaching in Phoenix and he put his best three players on the court at the same time, then made other teams adjust to him. His 3 players just happened to be point guards. In fact i think he put 4 pgs out there with Cliff Robinson. 3 of those guards were Steve Nash, jason kidd, and kevin Johnson. If you had those guys you should play them all at the same time too. It's very simple.
I notice Al J isn't in either rotation. Oh gee. How could I ever have forgotten the guy who disappeared during the summer league and is gone now too? Trade him for something good. maybe Shaun Livingston if we think he can be healthy. Or maybe him at center instead of Reed and Reed plays sf in the B unit, or something like that.
orien Green has done nothing to impres me but he seems tall
GG can be sent to the NBDL for 2 months and its ok.
Will Bynum made some drive I thought was utterly insane then dished off to a wide open Reed. Bynum appears to be a version of what banks was suppossed to be. borchardt might be teer than I thought cause I thought he was Scala for like 5 minutes. Not that I thought he was playing great, but I didn't think he was that bad.
If you look at the sat sheet there are some wierd numbers there. Like D West playing and getting no assists.
I am reclassifying how I see some of these players.
Perk = Ben Wallace
Gomes and Reed are Ron Artest or a cross between Tayshaun Prince and what Glenn Robinson could have been

Right on, Beefy.
I've seen Dickau a bit, and from the looks of it, he should be an adequate PG. He's got the ability to dribble out of trouble because he's an adept ball handler with either his left or right, and he's a fluid PG (not herky jerky like, say, Janero Pargo or Tony Delk). I'd imagine his game will improve as he progresses learning the system. Defensively, well, I don't think there's too much we can expect from him.
RR, I do think that Perkins can lead this team in rebound, even off the bench. Like you said, as long as he gets adequate minutes.
BC, Tony can be a better PG than Ricky Davis (whom Doc uses once in awhile at PG). I do think he can handle spot duties there, but he's more valuable as a SG who can also help out with PG duties. It's like having 2 PG's on the court at the same time.

Perk got 5 PFs, but stretched them out over 23 minutes or so. Can live with that if have to.
Gomes got 33 minutes, so he's getting a good look.
Green was following Doc's advice---something like 10 shots in not too many minutes.

Wow, Eja, I must have missed your post. Only noticed it just now. I'm not sure I follow you--you want to get rid of Jefferson and have a starting 5 consisting of all wing players, including using a 6'8" Justin Reed at Center?
