I do think Banks can be a quality backup. He definitely has the physical gifts to really be a handful for opposing PG's. Its only when I start hearing about him possibly being groomed as our future starting PG that I get defensive. I do not feel that he is capable of leading a team as a starting PG. But he can be a very effective scoring PG and a defensive ignitor coming off the bench. My opinion of Banks changes when I see him in this light.

I just want him to do well elsewhere. I think we have potential at PG w/out him. Let's get value out of a trade, if we can. I don't hate the kid, if more a time thing.

Nonetheless, this is Banks' last call to prove to Ainge that he can fill a niche on this team. If he doesn't, and Orien and/or Bynum do, well, that's all she wrote.

I want Banks and think he can be really good defensively but I do not envision him to start over West or Dickau. No way. I see how your thoughts change once this is brought up. I like Marcus but its when talks about him being a starting pg that makes you shiver. Hes gonna play that Bobby Jackson like role. For example, BJ even got dealt to a new team (Memphis) and he still won't be starting. They made sure they got Stoudamire to handle the main duties. Its not in the plans for BJ to start ever just like it will never be in the plans for Banks to start. Man those 2 are so comparable in that way. |
