Hey, what's happening, Mev. Been a long time since I got to chat with you. Yeah, I can see both Reed and Gomes coming into the game together and providing an excellent combination of offensive and offense off the bench. So what are your thoughts on all our young guys? Do you think they'll be the ones our hopes lie upon? Life has kept me very busy. My grandmother passed away recently, plus I may be relocating depending on the outcome of recent interviews. Anyway, I like our young guys because they seem to be pieces that can fit together well. West can be a solid floor leader (reminds me a bit of Bibby in Sacramento) with Banks being a change of pace accelerator off the bench, and Greene having the skill and size to potentially play both guard spots. Green has a very high ceiling at both the 2 and 3, Allen can grow into a defensive stopper and supplemental scorer at the 2, with Perkins anchoring the defense and hitting the glass while Jefferson is our PF who can score points down low and rebound as well. Reed has the makings of a solid defender with decent offense and Gomes can give minutes at both forward spots. There are enough interchangeable parts that we don't absolutely need all of them to develop well in order to win. Law of averages says we will have a solid player in all five positions.

What if Jason Williams comes over for Banks though? There goes a total pg youth movement.

Good luck with your new job, Mev (if you get it). My condolenses to your family for your grandmother's passing.
As for your outlook of the young team, I'm pretty much on the same page as you. I like the potential of Orien Greene. I think he may be able to compete for the starting position. Its quite an advantage being 6'5" and able to handle the ball well.

If Orien turns out to be good, Livingston won't even be on our minds.

That's a pretty big if. And if Orien turns into the next Terrell Brandon, while Livingston turns into the next J Kidd, he will definitely be in my mind

Note that Orien is only an inch shorter than Livingston, but built a lot stronger. His court vision may not be as highly touted as Livingston's, but hopefully he'll be a solid floor general in his own right.

Thanks for the thoughts and well-wishes guys.
Greene may not have as high a ceiling as Livingston, but if the rest of our players mature as we hope, he won't need to be a super-star, just a player that can fit his role as a distributor and defender. Besides, I see no way of getting Livingston away from the Clippers.

Right, because if Jefferson and Gerald Green develop into the stars the have the makeup to become, we won't need a star PG.
The more I think about it, getting a stud Center who can totally dominate the paint, ala Ben Wallace, is more rewarding than getting a stud PG who'll make us a super offensive team, as opposed to just being a strong offensive team. I'd sacrifice some points to become more a tighter defensive team. Rather than scoring in the 110 ppg area like Phoenix, I'd settle with 100 ppg while being one of the top 7 defensive teams in the league.
We're having a discussion about getting a dominant big man on the Draft board because in '07, this kid named Greg Oden is coming out. He's becoming more and more a dominant Center and his potential is very high. He's likely a top pick when he comes out so getting him is going to be extremely difficult. But getting a dominant Center may prove to be our best bet for attaining a dynasty. A dominant Center to go along with Big Al Jefferson and Gerald Green will be a terrific threesome to build our cornerstone around. Tony Allen (SG) and Orien Greene/Delonte West (PG) can round out the starting five and make this an incredible starting lineup.

Most guards in the league are ballhogs too so I'd much rather have a strong frontcourt with a guy who can put 20 and 9-10 up without bitching as much (see Brand).

I wonder how close we will be to mimicking the Sacramento Kings in terms of every player unselfishly moving the ball around to create a high powered offense? This will determine whether or not we need an stud PG or not. If our players can catch on to the concept of moving without the ball and passing to their open teammates, getting a pass first PG won't matter as much. In this situation, Delonte West (or possibly Orien Greene) will be adequate enough because he's a steady PG who can hit his open shots regularly.
