Who will turn out to be the better player and a possible candidate for a starting position.
Ryam Gomes or Justin Reed?
Both play the same position (SF/PF). Gomes has the better offensive repitoire while Reed is the better defender.

Gomes. Showed more in college. Showed more right off the bat. Faster. Just as tough. More fluid. Reed seems more like B Hunter. A 2nd rounder working his wazoo off to make the league. Gomes seems more like a 1rst rounder that slipped in a strange draft. I mean if you had to guess who the 1rst rounder was who would you say. Eric Williams is better than Jumaine Jones. Same situation.

I view Gomes as the better player as well. But seeing as how much progress Reed showed and the attention he's been getting around the Celtic Nation and among fans, I wanted to get a general feel from the Greeniacs to see whom they feel will be the better player. Rivers made pretty big statements about Reed and how he should see more minutes this coming season and even Pierce commented that Reed is a stout defender already.
I view Reed as a really solid bench player who can play big minutes in games where he's asked to do so (like if the starter gets into foul trouble, or gets injured). And I see Ryan Gomes as a possible starting SF. If an opening for a starting SF spot opens up, he may be the one who fills it. He has better overall skills and is more of a complete player than Reed.
IMO, both Tony Allen and Ryan Gomes are my wild card players. They are guys who could have big player status, but need to blossom their skills first.

At this time I say Reed. DA and Doc want players on the floor that are solid defenders. Reed has the edge over Gomes at this time. Given time Gomes might earn his defensive stripes and be a starter.
I'm also not going to relegate Reed to the bench as a role player. I see him as a starter, maybe even by mid-season. His defense will be needed on the floor.

I knew you were going to feel this way, C17. You must be Justin Reed's biggest fan.
Here's a question for everyone: would you rather have a defensive player with less offensive talent or an offensive player with less defensive skills?
Think about the team we have. We are already a strong offensive game, but need some help defensively. But our future team should have a lot of good defensive players (Perkins, Allen, Delonte, even Jefferson).

If things go as some of us would like, down the road, we will have plenty of players willing to take on the offensive load. Jefferson, Green, Davis (?), West, and Allen will take on the brunt of scoring IMO. Also, guys like Reed (and Gomes) tend to get a lot of scrap or put-back points. Hustle alone will make them threats to score from time to time. Defense wins titles baby...

I knew you were going to feel this way, C17. You must be Justin Reed's biggest fan. I won't be like some fans and cry if he gets traded. I'm a Celtic fan 1st. Then again, I trust DA to make the right moves.

But from a production standpoint, Gomes is the better overall choice.

Defense takes away from the other team's production. You can never under estimate that impact. Look at what Bowen did in the finals. If Reed is a better defender and their games are close I would take the defender.

Derren- Gomes might be better off the bench, for a scoring punch. Not that he won't be a starter in his career. Maybe b4 Reed. I just see it the other way around.

Even if Gomes is better, if these reports are true on Reed that hes getting buzz from good play, this is a good situation with our young guys. This could be a defensive squad easily. Gomes, Reed, Perkins and Jefferson. Banks assuming he doesn't go. Allen. This could be a real good defensive team "IF" they develop.

Wow, what a D-squad. I like the looks of it. Also, if Buckets it kept as a vet... He has nice D too.

Yes, Ricky shouldn't go anywhere. Seeing how well he has fit in, I would hate to see him go now. Plus, hes athletic for a veteran. And Green added to him as an evem higher athletic sg is a plus. I would like to trade all the other vets though. I would even like to get Eric Williams back as a reserve for Blonut. Think of Erics leadership plus Gomes also leading for a rookie. Eric can't hurt anyways. As old as he is even. Then, I would want PJ Brown next amongst a few others.

John- Could you see G$ at the point with RD and TA at the wings? Toss in Reed,Gomes or Al at 4 with Al or Perk at 5. Fast team. Add West to the mix...
