Key Matchups  vs  This may be the biggest matchup of the year. In essence, these players were traded for each other. The young player who is just breaking out versus the veteran who is one of the best of all time. KG will want to beat his former team and Big Al will certainly want to prove that he can win as well. This should be a great matchup.  vs  Who can forget Blount skipping across the floor in his first game against the Celtics after the trade or the embrace between Ricky and Blount after last season's game? Blount is not known for his rebounding or his play in the paint. Perk should be able to pretty much shut him down. This is a grudge match.  vs  Danny had worked out Foye a couple of times before last year's draft and there was talk of the Celtics trying to get him. Instead Danny made the trade for Telfair and drafted Rondo. This is a matchup between 2 young point guards who have been given the keys to the team. It will be interesting to see how they match up on both ends of the court. Game Notes This is a much anticipated matchup between the two teams that have been involved in 2 blockbuster trades in the last 3 years. The Wolves have 7 former Celtics on their team and the Celtics now have just 1 former Timberwolf in Kevin Garnett. The former Celtics are going to want to beat their old team and will play hard. This will be a game that pits veterans against youth. The former Celtics will know Doc's system and KG knows the Wolves system. A good coach will take that information and design a defense to stop it. Coaching will once again be crucial in this matchup. This may be just a preseason game, but there is a lot of pride at stake and it should be very intense because of it. |

Their whole starting lineup were Celtics at one point (no matter how short),
not to mention GG Telfair Ratliff

It will be on ESPN 2 at 2:30 eastern time. Pregame starts on CSN at 2. NBA Access with Ahmad Rashad is on at 2 on ESPN 2.

Game tied at 5 8:30 to go in the first. CSN game blacked out. Have to watch ESPN that keeps losing its signal and that is irritating. Big Al and Green out with ankle injuries. I wasn't going to do a play by play cause the game was on ESPN but then I thought that some people can't watch ESPN so will go ahead and do the play by play.
KG gets inside and is fouled. He misses the first. Hits the second. Celtics get it back during another black out. Ray Allen hits a jumper. Wolves miss and KG rebounds. Rondo almost gets a steal but Wolves recover. Ratliff's shot is rejected by KG. Ball goes out of bounds off Celtics. Ricky hits a 3 from the corner. KG is fouled by Howard on the baseline.
Nice feed inside to Pierce who lays it in and is fouled. PP misses the FT. Wolves rebound. picture continues to black out. inside jumper good for the Wolves. PPmisses a jumper from the top of the key. Howard rebounds. Brewer misses a jumper from the corner. Ricky D hits a 3 from the top of the arc. KG's pass inside is knocked out of bounds to Minny. Time out with Wolves up 13-11 and 5:03 left in the first quarter.

Wolves inbound. Ricky takes it to the rim and lays it in. Rondo fakes and passes off to Ray who passes inside to Perk. Perk backs into the basket and is fouled by Ratliff. Perk hits both FTs. Wolves miss and KG rebounds. RA hits a 3 and Boston takes the lead at 16-15. Ricky hits a fade away jumper. KG gets the ball inside and dunks. Rondo with a steal and takes it all the way to the basket and lays it in. Al misses a turn around in the paint. KG rebounds and then throws it away out of bounds. Al is playing and that is good to see. They originally said he wouldn't because of the ankle. Time out with Boston up 20-17 and 2:36 left in the first.

Foul on Brewer. Posey checks into game. Pierce is fouled and goes to the line. House comes in. PP misses the first. hits the second. Wolves turn it over and KG comes up with it. Tony Allen in also. Allen turns it over as he drives toward the basket. Smith gets inside and lays it in. PP takes it hard to the basket and is fouled. PP hits both FTs. Ricky hits a 3 from the top of the key. Celtics turn it over. Ricky misses a long 3 and Posey rebounds. Tony misses a 3. Wolves rebound. Ricky is fouled as he tries to split the double team. Scal comes in for Pierce. Batista comes in for KG. Wolves inbound on the side. Wolves turn it over with 1 second on the clock. Scal fumbles the inbounds pass and quarter ends with Boston up 23-22

Wolves inbound to start the second. Foye misses and gets his own rebound. Craig Smith is fouled underneath. He hits both FTs. Tony, Scal, Batista, Posey and House in for the Celtics. Posey misses a layup and Wolves rebound. Smith called for a travel. House hits a long jumper on a hand off from Scal. Smith misses and Batista rebounds. Scal misses a 3 and Wolves rebound. Al gets inside for a dunk. Celtics miss a 3 and Wolves rebound. Wolves lose it in the paint. Tony misses a jumper in the paint. Green hits a jumper. Tony is fouled by Green. Celtics inbound on the side. Scal misses a jumper. Wolves rebound. Green takes it to the basket and is fouled by Tony. Time out with 8:46 left in the half and Wolves up 28-25

Green hits both FTs. House brings the ball up. Batista backs into the basket and is fouled by Big Al. His first rattles in and out. Second one is good. Green misses and Celtics rebound. Batista is fouled in the paint by McCants. Bench play is pretty ragged right now. Foul called on Wolves away from the ball. Posey inbounds to Scal who catches it at the top of the arc and immediately hits a 3. Foye shoots an airball that goes out of bounds to the Celtics. Tony shoots an airball that goes to the Wolves. Posey with a steal and he is fouled as he takes it to the hoop. Posey misses the first. Hits the second to tie the game at 30. Celtics with a steal. Batista gets the ball inside and dunks. McCants hits a 3. Scal hits a jumper on the baseline. Wolves miss a jumper and Green skies for the rebound over Batista. Al muscles in to the basket and hits over Scal. Time out with Wolves up 35-34 and 5:29 left in the half

Al hits the FT. Tony is fouled at the other end. He hits both FTs. Foul called and McCants on the line. Big 3 comes back in. KG, PP, RA, Scal, Rondo in the game Rondo fakes and passes to Scal who hits a 3. PP with a steal and is fouled by McCants on the break. PP hits 1 of 2. McCants is fouled and hits both FTs. Game tied at 39
