Hey DM,
Any thoughts on Joey Grahm from OSU? Haven't seen him play myself, just saw the occasional highlight from ESPN and checked out his stats from the OSU homepage. He seems to be an athletic sf, at 6'7" he can play some mins at sg in the pros. Looks to be an efficent scorer with three point range. Grabs his share of rebs. Don't know if he's a post player though. He could be a nice 9th or 10th man off the bench, depends where Jiri,Walta and Reed end up.

FG, Joey Graham is a terrific athlete and a geared up competitor. His body type reminds me of Kenyon Martin--slim but power packed. He does have excellent range on his jumper, extending out to the three point arc, but don't confuse him with a three point marksmen. He's more of a set shooter from that distance. At this point, I haven't seen him use his post game, so either he doesn't really have confidence in that part of his offense, or he just doesn't have the post up game.
He's missing basketball instincts, which is a big thing to me. He doesn't anticipate all that well and that's why you see his low rebounding totals. I'd rate Graham higher on my list of prospects, but because he's not a very instinctual basketball player, I don't view him as high as I am viewing Francisco Garcia, despite Graham being a superior athlete.

We called him Trippy when he was a little kid, running with nose dripping and falling over everything. Funny kid. Uhhhh ....... BC, why don't you take this one. You know, I haven't seen the guy for years since he moved to europe and all.

Just thought you might have heard of him. 6-5 and can play point, kinda like Lefty, never been given the reigns...to him self...Good out-side scorer, from what I read and others say...

C17, just poking some fun at you ;D I can't comment on europeans and international players because I don't get to see any of their games.
BC, would you care to give us your scouting report on Tiago Splitter and Peja Samardziski? I would really like to hear about these 2 guys.

Took a closer look at Adam Morrison tonight. The commentators were saying that he'd have to play SG in the NBA and they said they think he could pull off the transition. I don't think its as easy as they think. First off, his defensive quickness (lateral movements and quick feet) is really awful. At 6'8", he's going to be going up against a lot of shorter/quicker SG's than him and he's going to have a hard time keeping up with them. He does have game, though. Really smart basketball player and he plays hard. Crafty with the basketball and when he's setting up his shots. Comes off the curl real well for quick catch and shoots. He takes jab steps (which really doesn't get him anywhere) and after a couple of steps, he picks up his dribble. He needs to work on changing his path and recovering his momentum.
He's a pretty solid player. Think of a slightly clumsier Wally Szcerbiak, or a shorter Vlad Radmonovic. He's like former Gonzaga PG Blake Stepp in that he's just too slow to make an impact at the next level. Though, in Morrison's case, he may have a better shot because a wing player doesn't have to be as quick as a PG needs to be.

Hey DM,
Any chance you've seen Francisco Garcia in action? If we fail to move up the draft to get Felton, who'll probably go in the top 8, Garcia could fill our need for a backup pg/sg. He should be available in our range. If there was a way you could compare Garcia's game to Banks and Welsh, for instance , is he a better ball handler/passer than Banks? or if he is a better shooter/defender than Welsh? If the answer is yes on both questions then we have our next back up pg. This would make jiri easily expendable and would push marcus to the #3 pg option. West should be our starting PG. From what I saw from him in the clippers game, he's got it. He's better than Banks fundementally and he may not have Bank's quickness but he moves extremely well on Defense. His feet are constantly moving and he comes out of nowhere to grab the long rebound.

On another note, how many draft picks do we have altogether? It's four right? 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders?

Question (ForeverGreen): Any chance you've seen Francisco Garcia in action? If we fail to move up the draft to get Felton, who'll probably go in the top 8, Garcia could fill our need for a backup pg/sg.
I'm a big fan of Garcia. I've written up a bunch of things on Garcia in the other threads. I like players like Garcia--guys who just play the game with a passion and flare. His fire reminds me of the well traveled MLB pitcher, Jose Lima, who never fails to pump himself up for games.
It'll be a wrong move to draft him with the intent to make him a PG. Not that he isn't a good passer, or that he's a bad dribbler. It's just that he's not at an NBA PG's level at either of them. But as a SG, he'll make some really nice passes, and he'll be able to bring the ball down the court and handle it against pressure pretty well. He's quite a bit like Jiri, except that he plays with more aggressiveness and he's got fire in his belly.
Fransisco Garcia is not that athletic or quick--but very savvy and crafty, not to mention long. He's got a decent first step, and he loves to penetrate with his left hand and fire bullets off the dribble to the big men inside the paint once an opening is created. He's got NBA three point range on his shot now, but he needs to work on becoming more consistent. Body-wise, he reminds me of Reggie Miller.
Question (ForeverGreen): On another note, how many draft picks do we have altogether? It's four right? 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders?
Yep, as it now stands, we have 2 first rounders (ours and LA's) and 2 second rounders (ours and SAC's from the Songaila trade a couple of years ago). But if GSW starts playing better, we could tack on another second rounder (we received their pick from the McCarty/PHO trade). They've got that pick protected if its below the 40th pick. If they finish with a .500 record, we could very well have 3 second rounders, which doesn't sound good to me. Lets hope they continue to play poorly because adding 5 new draft picks to an already young team doesn't bode too well.

So who else watched the ridiculous Uconn v Providence game last night. wtf. great game. so much potential nba talent on the floor.
Marcus Williams. I have gotten on Derren's band wagon on him. He is absolutely killer. He has some insane vision on the court. some of his passes where just stellar. He easily would have had 15-17 assists last night if Boone or Armstrong weren't missing every easy shoot under the basket. But wow, he ended up with 13 assists. managed the game great. and played 47 minutes. only 2 turnovers. i like him. i am worried about this footspeed on the next level, but who cares you rarely see a kid that pass this freakin well.
Charlie V- a semi fav over here. I like him. i think his versitility will be awesome on the next level. i think with time and effort (the one major major ?) he could be very similar to Dirk Noweisat;aliskskdjski. allbeit not as dominate. but a very similar type of player. people say lamar, but lamar i think is a much better passer and much smarter player.
Rudy Gay- Sure i'll take him. a really all world Donyell Marshall. and donyell is pretty damn good.
Boone- Not sure what to make of him. he just doesn't look comfortable out there anymore. is he playing hurt?
Ryan Gomes. He will be a huge steal in the late first round. A flat out basketball player. Post moves, penetration moves, a nice outside shot. A career bench player/ 6th man. I predict he will win the 6th man award in his career.
Sleeper from Providence. Hurbert hill. Only a soph. but is starting to get it. by his senior year he could develop into a real solid second round pick. He played awfully well last night against a very tough uconn front court.
and who here, would just love to see this uconn team play together for 5 years and then go out and win the nba title. the talent on that team is out of control. they can start 5 legitimate first round picks, and possibly 4 lotto picks. Gay, Charlie V are lottery locks. Boone might be if he becomes consistent next year, Marcus Williams, the sky is the limit as far as i am concerned. and rashard anderson, who is out with some crazy medical thing (talk about bad luck for a program, one guy has surgery on some infected leg problem, another, AJ Price, is still in the hospital with some crazy head/brain/nervous system problem), anderson could go late first round for a team in need of a pure shooter of the bench.

Goodness, Howl, you must live near Conn., right? ;D Yeah, they are a pretty strong team. Even Denham Brown is a solid player. You are right about Charlie--he's not as good a passer, or as smart, as Lamar Odom. I don't know about being like Dirk No-whiskey, but yeah, he is a versatile 6'10" guy who can do damage. I see the potential in him.
Yeah, ain't Marcus Williams incredible. If they guy had footspeed, he'd be in the top 15 of the draft. He's such a smart player who can decide in a split second whether to pass or take the shot himself. He and Deron Williams may turn out to be the darhorse PG's in the draft, if they come out this year.
Don't worry about Boone. He'll be fine. Just a soph and his first year as a starter. He'll figure out how to overcome the obstacles that are in his way.
So, what did you think of Providence PG, McGrath?
I'm not too big on Ryan Gomes. He's nice and all, but I don't sense anything special coming from this guy. I'm guessing he'll be a marginal player in the NBA.

Yea, i live in CT for 15 years. Graduated from Uconn in 2000. so yea, i'm slightly biased. I now live in Providence so i see a bit of providence college. I don't see why Charlie can't be like Dirk actually. He needs a lot of work, but similar players. you may not agree but hey that's ok. I'm right ;D Mcgrath is not impressive as far as i am concerned. He doesn't really make the team better. he controls the game pretty well, but just doesn't have the vision he needs to succeed at the next level. There has been a bit of chatter about Gomes over at realgm this morning. Trying to compare him to Pierce or Carmelo. I really don't see either. I do see him playing a role like Eric williams played for us. People throw around the tweener label too much as a negative thing. You can throw a ton of very successful players into that catergory that help teams win basketball games. some are all stars. Look at Jamison in Washington. being a tweener also creates major mismatchs for the defense. the main problems i have with the label of tweener a/. based on the old "established" excepted defined positions in the nba, b/. footspeed or lack of puts people in the tweener catergory. i just don't like it. Hell, i would love to have mike dunleavy, jr. on this team. but he is a tweener. Gomes will be a solid player playing 15 years in the nba, and will be an "unsung" hero for a successful team. ok rant over. out
