Well, I already posted my thoughts on Hodge in the other thread, but basically, his skills have regressed, almost diminished, over the course of a year. Last year at this time, Julius Hodge was a guy high on my list, sort of like how Garcia is this year. But as I watched Hodge this past year (the game vs. UNC I think), he was slow and nowhere near the level he was as a junior. And his shooting, from the perimeter as well as from the charity stripe, was horrible. He air balled a shot, clang a few, and did not look comfortable shooting the ball at all. You could see it in his eyes that he was having trouble with his confidence.
Last year, I would have said he was a mid to late first round pick. This year, I think his game entails an early second round pick. He really needs to get his basketball skills back for him to succeed in the NBA.

If the Celts don't get Sarunus or Monta Ellis or Roko Ukic I will never believe any rumor about who DA wants ever again. Does anyone know if he used to do this when he was with the Suns? And how come we haven't heard a peep out of Doc Rivahs?

In Phoenix, Ainge wasn't in the spotlight because he wasn't a GM or anything. No one really cared what he said. I don't know how involved he was in the draft process as a head coach.
Yeah, interesting that no one is interviewing Doc. He's been sitting in on the workouts (the little that we had) so he's got some opinions on some players.
Yeah, I agree. It is getting old with all these promises.

A little of hte luck of the Leprechaun is showing:
1. In his first draft, DA got Perkins and Banks. Both are going to be in the NBA for awhile. Level of achievement still uncertain.
2. In his second draft, DA got AJ, West, Allen, and Reed. AJ looks like a star in the making. West and Allen look like keepers. Reed remains a relative unknown who practices well.
3. Trades left DA with a 12-man roster. Payton doesn't look to be back. AWs future here is uncertain. So 10 of the 12 will remain. I'm guessing AW will also.
3. Prior to the 3rd draft, a revised CBA has two provisions which will enter: (a)Teams will have to have 14 players on the roster. (15 an op;tion?), (b)Teams can send first and second year players to the NBDL (Question: will those count woard the 14?) (c)No IL?
So DA has probably 11 guys back; and 3 draft choices. Could conceivably keep them all.
4 AND ol' friend Papile said this is a deep draft. Ordinarily there are 60-65 players who are "draftable" quality. This year, the number if in excess of 100.
So those 2 second-round picks---like last year's choice of Reed---should net people who at least would merit a visit to NBDL.

This is not a draft question of comment:
But related:
I have read where the new CBA allows for teams ot have a one-time option to waive a guy and, I think, clear him from the salary cap.
Knicks are rumored to be planning to dump Alan Houston. And have seen someone else who is goingt to be dumped. Bradley is negotiating a buyout with the Mavericks.
If I get that right, would you consider dropping Blount? Raef?
I think the team is still on the hook for hte money, but it doesn't count against the cap?
Reckon this will provide something for DA to think about in terms of tinkering with the roster?

If I get that right, would you consider dropping Blonut? Raef? I think the team is still on the hook for hte money, but it doesn't count against the cap? Reckon this will provide something for DA to think about in terms of tinkering with the roster? The thought crossed my mind too Ferbo. Then I also have hopes that AW won't be back next year. So unless we find a FA Big or two we will need to keep all the Bigs we have at this time. (Not AW) Also, do we trust Reaf's knee holding up like it did last season? Maybe with Al and Perk getting more minutes it will take some of the wear off of his knee. His contract does suck thou...

Dropping bigs who can play even a little is somewhat risky.

I don't think it'll be worth dropping Blount. Raef is a consideration. Raef does a bit more on the court than Blount, but his contract is a headache. Blount's is really not that bad (the contract isn't bad, its the player who doesn't do anything that makes the contract useless).
Raef is not a big time contributor and he's definitely expendable. Our future does not hinge on what he can provide us. He's been a feel good story, but maybe its best if we drop him.

My only concern with Reaf is injury. Do we take that gamble? This offense was not set to get him the ball so his numbers might not be that great.
We need to let AW walk after that our Bigs are thin in numbers. If we get one chance to drop a player, for cap space, does it need to be do at this time? Can we do it after next season? Can we drop one player off the books each and every season? Can we get a Big in the draft that can step in and help or get one or two via FA?

Well, we can let Walker walk. And if we do release Raef (which I don't think is going to happen because Ainge seems to like him), we can look for some FA help in the frontcourt.

Why can't we let Walker walk? He is dead-weight IMO...
We don't need a 'Big Brother' on this team, we need a player.

Dropping bigs who can play is risky, but we're not talking about that, we're talking about Blonut.
i guess he's a guy who won't play, or doesn't play. Plus you can take the money and get another big who will play

The Mavs are probably going to waive Finley. Savings off the luxury tax next y ear will be $15. Probably that much the following year alsol. Not sure beyond that.
