Here's a list NBADraft.net compiled of the ranking of players in their respected positions: www.nbadraft.net/2005positional.aspI don't agree that Deron Williams is the top PG in the draft.

BC, I agree there are alot of good players in this draft. Not a "can't miss" draft, but the deepest draft I have seen in recent years.

Ainge said that there's a good chance that a good player could drop to 18. I agree. I can't wait to see who we can steal this year.

I'm going to start a thread for our Celtics Green Mock draft challenge on May 28th, giving us exactly 1 month before the actual draft.
Warrick is not the guy I'm hoping for with the 18th pick. I hope that mock is wrong.

NBADraftCity or whatever now has Boston projected to get Warrick at 18. Someone will take a chance on him. I wouldn't be surprise if he taken borderline lottery.

I'm almost certain that if he's there at 18, Ainge is going to pass on him. Based on what I know of Ainge, Warrick is not the type of player he's going after. He can't dribble, he's not good at creating his own offense, he's not a three point shooter, and his basketball IQ seems limited. He's an athlete, but he's an undersized 4 and an unskilled 3.

Like I said before, Warrick's game is based on his point guard. He didn't demonstrate he can create his own shot.

When Warrick has scoring opportunities (with the ball in his hands and with time on the shot clock), he doesn't look good. He basically tries to work his way down into the paint, but with his size and lack of weight, he won't be able to post up much against NBA SF's, and especially not against PF's. He's effective when he receives the ball in the post, where he can utilize his fallaway jumper or work his way in for a quick jam. But again, in the NBA, he'll be facing quick SF's and stronger PF's.

Anyone we take at the 18th pick I expect it to be a project player. Warrick isn't a bad pick especially if he has the most potential out of the guys left on the board. I don't know what you're looking at the 18th pick but if Warrick is there Ainge is going have to take a long look at him. But, I think in the end Ainge will take a HSer or a young foreigner who going to help us down the road.

You can still find good players at 18. Remember, we took Jefferson at 15 last year.
If we are looking to take a chance on a player with the 18th pick, that player should have a high ceiling. Warrick's ceiling is not high at all. He's a 4 year collegiate who has not developed his SF skills during his stint at Syracuse. GM's and scouts nowadays don't care for undersized 4's. Just as an example, Mike Sweetney is a terrific talent, but many sour on him because he's only 6'8". Same with guys like Ike Diogu and Wayne Simien. They lack the ideal height to be a PF in the NBA. Now imagine Hakim Warrick, who's the same height as Sweetney, but is much lighter and weaker. You can compare him to Shawn Marion, who's also an undersized PF for Phoenix (both are the same height and roughly the same weight and build). But Marion is a lot more skilled with his perimeter game and his dribbling is much better than Warrick's, giving him an advantage over bigger PF's. Plus Marion is a true SF. Warrick isn't.
I'm not saying Warrick is an awful player. I'm pretty sure he'll have more usefulness than Walter McCarty. But I don't want to use the 18th pick on someone whose ceiling is rather limited when there are a lot of europeans, college underclassmen, and high schoolers who could be much better than he is. If he's there in the second round, I'd take a gamble on him.

I am thinking if Granger, Charlie V, Graham, or May is not available at 18, then Ainge will go high school w/ Webster, Blatche, maybe Ellis or go foreign w/ Fernandez or Ukic. Guess that kind of covers all the bases, ;D
In regards to high school, and foreign players, basically comes down to how good your team scouts, and the how much you want to gamble? Obviously, San Antonio scouts know what they are doing by picking foreigners at the bottom of the draft, like Gniboli (spelling?), Parker, and the rook (begins w/ a U) this year. Other teams, gambled hard like Minne w/ Garnett and Toronto w/ McGrady.
