I'm usually one to go with my gut feeling and I still dont like this overly, but I'll try to look at some positives. My main concern is Ray's ankle issues. If he isn't healthy and gets injured a lot and cant last a full season the rest of his career, this is an awful deal especially considering ray has 50 mil still left on his contract.
What I do like....
-We have 2 of the best shooters in the league if not the two best. Pierce is one of the best midrange scorers of all time. Ray is one of the best long range scorers of all time. Al is developing into one of the best low post scorers there is. I'm still not sure if we are keeping Al. I think we are going to make a run at KG, but regardless this gives us the ability to really spread the floor with Pierce working the middle. Ray working outside and Al or whoever working inside.
-We do need another big guy and a pg to go with Rondo. We have some serious defensive deficiencies and a coach that could really screw us come playoff time but we might be alright. Right now we have two non shooters in Rondo and Perk on the floor which is alright I guess who will do the little things. We aren't really a fast break team, but Doc doesnt really coach that way anyways. I think we could be a successful halfcourt team. RAy can kill people on the break with his 3's as well.

I like this trade. We get an all-star who can help spread the floor, and don't mortgage the future.

yeah we did. i didnt realize we got seattle's 35 as well. that's a nice bonus. Glenn Davis is better than people think. He plays hard and rebounds well. He isn't lazy like Tractor Trailer was why i think he'll be pretty good.

He isn't lazy like Tractor Trailer was why i think he'll be pretty good. I disagree. Tractor Traylor 'got in shape' and dropped poundage before the draft too. that's why he went top 10. If Davis didn't have read flags about something, he'd be in the 1st round. Luckily if he can't stay in shape, like 90% of the big guys can't, it's not a big investment. I still hate this trade. This trade... proxy.espn.go.com/nba/draft2007/news/story?id=2920330is much better IMO and one we coulda done.

well my gut says that cf. I hated the raef and wally deals and i bought into them, and this could be the same sort of thing. Allen is 32 and could soon be declining heavily. Usually thats about when players really start their decline. i agree there were better deals out there potentially. this is not a trade i would have done, but it could be worse is all im saying. its not like we gave up that much. im afraid yi is going to blow up, but jeff green at best is a solid starting sf in the nba. delonte is good but at best is a backup guard. and wally was to match contracts. i think we went after kg and marion. they said no, so we went with Ray. I like Jrich better as well. I also think we compounded things by not taking Roy last year.
The thing with Allen is he is a prolific player. Outside of Garnett, JO, and Marion I dont think there was a better player available. but he's on the downside of his career i'm afraid. Plus he is a poor defender. I would have said no to this trade, but I'm trying to look at the positives here.

My main issue is usually when you start looking at 4th and 5th options thats when its time to say no and just keep what you have. Did we get KG, Marion, Oneal or Gasol? Danny didnt do that here. It seems like he was bent on appeasing pierce and getting him a veteran. Ray was kind of off the radar and im surprised we just didnt say no. i thought we could have had rashard without giving up the 5th pick. rashard is younger as well. we gave up the 5th pick and got ray allen. its kind of messed up. Allen has injury issues and a huge contract as well. There are a lot of things wrong with this, but whatever.

The good is we did get a very good player and a veteran and we are still young. We didn't give up that much when you think about it. We still have Al. We still have Gerald. It could be worse. It's not like Ray is crap. He is one of the best players around. Delonte, Jeff Green and Wally for Allen is not that bad.
I'm hoping we keep our young guys and maybe make another minor deal. Had we given up Gerald or Al for Garnett or JO that could have been worse. So if we kept these guys and got a veteran this might be better where we appease pierce and we keep our core of young players. It's not like Green or Delonte were really going to be difference makers for us. I guess the point is if this puts us in a win now mode as well as building for the future that could be a win win.
I'm thinking we use Gomes, telfair and Ratliff, plus we have Tony Allen and Gerald to maybe get another good vet without giving up Jefferson. I'd like to keep Gerald. But I have a feeling he or TA are going to go.

We still can make a productive deal with Theo Ratliffe's contract.

My biggest disappointment of the night was wasting a pick on Glen Davis. Are we trying to stockpile short 2nd round PFs or what?

yes we have a lot of those fresh. gomes, powe, scal, davis. something has to be done there. we also have a weird pg situation now. our sg/sf issue is cleared up at least somewhat now. Allen and Allen. Pierce and Green, makes sense for the most part.
If we are cleaning up the roster, Ratliff, Telfair, Gomes, Scal, Powe, Ray, Pruitt, DAvis etc should all be offered for a veteran pg and a big man somehow. Whether we can get anything out of that is another story. I'm also not sure if that puts us in luxury tax territory.

I would much rather have taken Gasol in the second round than Davis. He is 6'9 and has weight issues that are going to plague him through his career.

we'll see i guess. i know people are going to find ways to justify this and im trying, but i still dont like it. i was hoping ainge would do something smarter here. i wish we would rebuild and do like seattle is doing. thats an exciting young team that isnt strapped with salary issues. we've been playing with these max contracts and its a mess. we could have let walker walk a long time ago and just built for the future. we keep prolonging the inevitable for some reason. we had raef, then we had wally and now we have ray. i just hope this team doesnt continue to be stuck being mediocre and we have the looks of that. we are capped out and we were the 2nd worst team in the league last year. I know people think DA is a genius and all and I haven't given up on him yet, but he hasn't really proven anything.
