[glow=green,2,300]Celtics Roster[/glow]Guards Sebastian Telfair 30 Rajon Rondo 9 Delonte West 13 Wally Szczerbiak 55 Tony Allen 42 Allan Ray 12 Forwards Ryan Gomes 4 Al Jefferson 7 Leon Powe 0 Paul Pierce 34 Gerald Green 5 Brian Scalabrine 44 Akin Akinbala Centers Kendrick Perkins 43 Theo Ratliff 50 Dwayne Jones 27 Michael Olowokandi 41 Kevin Pittsnogle 51 [glow=maroon,2,300] Cavaliers Roster [/glow] Guards Eddie Badsen 13 Shannon Brown 6 Daniel Gibson 21 Stephen Graham 1 Larry Hughes 32 Damon Jones 19 Eric Snow 20 David Wesley 4 Forwards Drew Gooden 90 Luke Jackson 33 Lebron James 23 Ira Newble 14 Alexander Pavlovic 3 Anderson Varejao 17 Centers Zydrunas Ilgauskas 11 Scott Pollard 31 Things to look for: The battles at Point Guard, Power Forward and Center for the Celtics. Will Doc play veterans over youth? Will Jefferson finally show us what we have all been waiting for? Will the Point guards break the sonic barrier? Will Perk or Ratliff start at center? Will Perk finally get the playing time he deserves this season? Will Telfair, Rondo or West start at PG? Will Gomes or Jefferson start at PF? Will Doc make an stupid decisions?

I'll go ahead and list who I think will be the starters for both teams:
BOSTON ------ CLEVELAND
PG: Telfair ---- Snow SG: Wally ---- Hughes SF: Pierce ---- Lebron PF: Gomes ---- Gooden C : Ratliff ---- Big Z
I personally feel that Tony Allen should be in at SG, but for the very first preseason game, I think Doc will go with the sure veteran hand (Wally). By the end of preseason, Allen and Perk may be in the starting lineup, depending how things go.

I predict 100 different lineups by Doc as he sorts out his roster.

No kidding. Ainge is going to have to make it easier for Doc by cutting loose some guys and streamline our roster.
I'm not too much of a fan of the lineup of Theo, Gomes, Pierce, Wally and Telfair. Not enough speed, not enough defense and not enough rebounding. Smart team with veteran savy, but just not exciting to me.

Any predictions for tonight's game? Its not really about the wins or losses at this point; its about getting into a cohesive unit and finding combinations that work. But we can still make some predictions about who we think will shine and who we think will be the key player and stuff.
I say Pierce scores 16 pts, Theo gets 3 blocks, Tony goes for 12 pts, Lebron scores 20, Sebastian gets 6 assists, and we win 86 - 75.

Personally I think it could be a really ugly game cause the Cavs have it together and we don't yet. We have lots of new faces and confused youth. They'll still be in summer league mode, whereas the Cavs will be in the proper pass the ball to Lebron mode.

I agree with eja. Not to be the pessismist here, but I see the papers tommorrow indicating a Celtic loss, and then many people saying that "expectations were high, but the Celts aren't any good" yadyadyada. Even if we lose tonight, which I think we will, we still have a lot to look forward to this year. I think this is the real year that you will see the Celts turn that corner. Cavs have that chemistry going "on the court". We have it "off the court" but we need to translate that to "on the court". Once that happens, the Celtics will really make it happen. I expect Telfair to shine, and show a lot of energy, but turn the ball over a bit due to it being the first game and the chemistry issue again, guys not expecting passes, etc. I think Lebron will go off for at least 25, 6, and 6. Gooden will do ok. I think Gomes will have a double-double. Pierce will be solid, and Rondo will show some flashes. I think D West and Tony will be solid. I don't think Theo will do that much in the boxscore, but will make an impact on the game regardless, and I expect Perk to inflict at least one very hard foul, either on Lebron or Hughes cutting into the lane driving to the basket. Wally will shoot a good percentage and score in double figures. Big Al will show glimpses but will not play as much as Ryan or Perk........That's pretty much it for my predictions. Here's hoping the Celts will win their first preseason game.

I am exalting esco for so many common sense predictions. I'd like to change my predictions to predicting everything esco said will happen.
I hope Doc limits preseason minutes of vets. They don't need the time or the wear and tear.

I won't allow myself to see it negatively ;D
No, realistically, I do think we'll struggle some in the halfcourt. But what will keep us in the game is our fastbreaks off of TO's and our guards pushing the ball.

Woah woah. You think the Cavs are gonna have the TOs? Okay. Well I suppose it could happen.

Yeah, I think our quick players will apply defensive pressure and cause TO's.

Lebron made the statement that his Cavs have a shot at winning it all this season (not verbatem). I think they're better than last year's team that won 50 games. I really like the addition of Shannon Brown to the team and I think he can be their opening day starting SG. He may not be able to make an impact offensively yet (but he will eventually), but he's a very aggressive defender. BC and I were impressed with his game as a senior in high school, and he's gotten much better since then.
I don't know if he'll start or if Larry Hughes will be the one opposite of Lebron. But either will be tough to stop. I hope we are up for the challenge.
Tony Allen can match up against either Hughes or Brown, but since he's our best perimeter defender, it'll make sense to match him up against Lebron (though he's not going to stop him. We can only hope to contain him.).
