Now that I have seen two games I would like a starting lineup of Pierce Perk Rondo Al Green
This group played very well as a unit in the first game but didn't play together in the second. I really like this group together.

Don't worry, if Doc doesn't use that lineup this preseason (or this season), he will certainly use it in the future. Rajon has clearly been the best PG on the team and he IS really this good (its no fluke), but we really haven't seen the best of Telfair yet.

I'll throw out a lineup that Rivers may use:
C- Jefferson PF- Gomes SF- Pierce SG- Wally PG- Tel-Fondo (one or the other)
Pierce is a shoe in, no question. Wally is an excellent kickout option and a veteran so he'll be in there. Gomes works really well with Telfair and Rajon. And Jefferson might be in there because Rivers wants to play small ball.

I can pretty much guarantee you that Al will not be starting.
Opening night starting lineup:
C-Perk PF-Gomes SF-Wally SG-Pierce PG-Telfair
Second Unit
C-Theo PF-Al SF-Green/Allen SG-West PG-Rondo

I guarantee you Doc will use a lot of different lineups, even if it doesn't make sense.

My guess is (stater/sub): Rondo/Telfair at the PG; Pierce/West at SG: Wally/Allen at SF; Gomes/Jeffeson at PF; Perkins/Ratliff at C.

Mev, you don't think Gerald will be in the regular 10-man rotation?
Doc said in a recent interview (I think it was the one FL posted with Eric Weiss asking the questions) that Al will come off the bench. Add that with the fact that Doc likes to use big men who can knock down elbow jumpers (Ryan Gomes) and its looking certain that Jefferson will at least start the season coming off the bench.
This is probably a good thing. Make him prove his game off the bench first before thrusting him into the starting spot.

actually you can't believe the things doc says. For instance he has reiterated on different occasions: 1. allen, pierce, szczerbiak have separated from the pack and will get most minutes at the wings 2. west will be used at the 2 most of the time and will get most of the reserve minutes 3. green will be on the floor this year 4. ray has a good shot and will be used at wing
so you see, he's pretty much full of bleep

It's interesting looking at the Celtics lineup. You guys seem to be the only team with as much uncertainty as my Trail Blazers in terms of starters. This can be both a good thing and a bad thing. Obviously it's good to have a team with established stars, but the battle for minutes and the multitude of young talent that the Celts and Blazers have is also a good thing.
Primarily I was checking in here to see what the consensus was so far on Telfair. From my quick glances he appears to be playing well. From what I'm reading here though, it seems that Rondo is more likely as a starter?
I was also keen to know what the story was with Jefferson and Gomes -- two very promising players.

Yes, Telfair has been playing well. He has been improving steadily and last night he was off to his best start as a Celtic when he became ill with some stomach ailment at halftime.
As good as Telfair is playing, Rondo is just playing that much better. The kid has been phenomenal.
Gomes and Jefferson are both playing well. Jefferson hasn't seen regular minutes. Both offer different strengths. Al is better around the basket, Gomes has better range. Both are good rebounders.

I'm comfortable with 1,2, and 3 position on this team. Center and PF are going to have its up and downs. I still feel like we're missing a player or two at those positions in order to get over the hump.

Hey there, Mookie. How is your Blazers' blog doing? I'll stop by when I have a few extra minutes.
Telfair is starting to play better, and I'm glad to see that. But Rajon has been playing killer basketball and he's ahead of Telfair on most scorecards. He's got more ability than Telfair, especially defensively. But I still think we have a lot more to see from Telfair.
As for Jefferson and Gomes, at this moment it appears that Gomes is going to start and Jefferson will come off the bench. But that will change in the future and the roles will be reversed. Jefferson is younger with a higher ceiling, but he's still inexperienced. Gomes plays like a seasoned veteran and can produce good numbers. But he's undersized so there are some nights he's invisible.

So what do you guys think about a frontcourt of Powe and Gomes?
Yes, they are 2 incredibly undersized bigs (both are roughly 6'8"), but for one night at least, they were able to make it work. Gomes and Powe were responsible for our big comeback win against the Nets; Powe with his big rebounding effort and Gomes for scoring 13 of his 15 pts in the 4th quarter.
This is a combination we may see more of when we go really small.
