The best thing that could happen is if there is an open competition for starting PG between Smart and Schroder. Ime makes it clear what he wants and he doesn't hesitate to pull either guy from the game if they deviate, ie chuck without conscience. If he lets Smart be Smart we're doomed. You are correct, if he lets not so Smart still think he is the second coming of Ray Allen, then this team will go nowhere no matter who the other four players are on the court with him.

I am pretty sure the fastest way to lose the locker room is if Ime doesn't have immediate consequences for ignoring him. I am looking in the direction of Smart the most, but he may have to deal with Tatum as well. Brad never figured this out

Maybe a vet lineup?
Smart Richardson Brown Tatum Horford

Maybe a vet lineup? Smart Richardson Brown Tatum Horford I feel like there's a chance of Smart behaving himself in that lineup. I also think that's a fairly good passing lineup even with Smart in it, which means the better passer (Schroeder) can come in with the 2nd unit and keep that moving. The kids showed a willingness to pass in summer camp. Maybe that could work. But another part of me wants to start the season with Schroeder starting and tell Smart if he wants to be a starter he has to figure out how to play without shooting unless it's wide wide wide open.

I am in totally agree with you. The less not so Smart the better, unless it is to raise his value for a trade. I am willing to take the annoyance of his negative net value if it gets him out of here.

I'm wondering where Pritch is going to get his minutes this season. If Smart starts alongside Richardson, would Ime really play Pritch next to Schroder, making us pretty short in the backcourt?
In my mind, Pritch is a perfect complementary player for JB and JT, hitting the open shots creating by the doubles they draw. It's not so much that he's a better all around player than say Richardson or Schroder as it is that he fits that unit better.
I could see Schroder and Richardson coming in off the bench and providing good D, some playmaking ability and a veteran presence.

Pritch will get backup minutes and will be an integral part of the second unit.

You don't think there's any chance that we keep (and later resign) Schroder and deal Smart?

Like it or not, I think Smart is really in the long term plans (and I'm hoping he changes his stripes for the better). I'd imagine Schroder will be looking for a big payday, and I don't think we'll be the one tongive it to him -- that is if we are looking to bring in Beal or another 3rd star.

If that is the case, then they are not serious about winning championships. He isn't going to change, so he can't be a key part of a championship team.

I'm going to give it time before I make a judgment on Smart. Gotta see what influence Udoka has on Smart. Players have changed roles/style of play in their playing career.

What Smart has to be made to understand is that there is almost always a better option for the team than him shooting. This idea (that Brad supported) that if you're open, shoot it, is so wrong.
I remember reading a story about the Spurs a few years ago where they talked about passing up a "good" shot, to get a "great" shot. I can't tell you how much I hope Ime brings this mentality with him to Boston.

It is about to be his seventh season, it would take a miracle for him to change. Udoka would deserve COY base of that alone.
