If it ever clicks for him he's gonna be a big part of this team's success. But his defensive miscues will be inexcusable in the playoffs. hopefully with experience he cuts down on those.

Of course it's a smaller sample size, but in 18 mpg this year, Robert Williams put up better steal and block percentages than Rudy Gobert.
And I was amazed to see how much more comfortable and in control of himself Rob looked in the playoffs. He really started to come into his own and look the part of a defensive anchor. And he's an instant lob threat too.
If he stays healthy, he could lead the league blocks.

Absolutely.
One thing I'd like to see from him next year is a one dribble drive and dunk from the key area. He stands out there alone and the other team knows he's not going to shoot, and he shouldn't if that's not part of his game yet, but with his leaping ability he should be able to attack the basket from up top.

Right. Having a few moves in his pocket on the rare occassions he's in isolation will be good for us. On defense, I want him to be more stout when his man is trying to back him down in the paint.

My hope is for him to turn out like Siakam. Those insane spin moves to free him up for easy layups. It took awhile for Siakam to be better and I see the same trajectory for Williams. The only thing holding him back is injuries...someone needs to have a serious look at his training regime.

I think he's behind where he needs to be in this area.

Ayton had 22 pts, 19 rebs for PHX in Game 1 of the Finals. He cleared the boards and intimidated inside, and was efficient at scoring on lobs and putbacks. Ayton is bigger than Robert, but is there anything Ayton did that Robert couldn't?

Defensively, both can be effective, though Ayton has more mass than Rob.

I only ask because Ayton's offense was all within 3 feet of the hoop except for one 12 footer. It showed me that a big man can still be effective without having a perimeter game.

Maybe it's time to bring back the Big Man!! Udoka coached on teams with Tim Duncan and Joel Embiid. Maybe he can use a big who scores near the basket (Luka Garza come on up).
