50 days left till draft day! Even if we don't get the Lakers lottery pick, i'm still excited about the draft, well because i'm a draft nut.
We'll post ramdom draft talk in this thread.
Let me start by saying I think Trevon Duval will be a bust. On the surface, he's a Derrick Rose clone, but not nearly as skilled or explosive. Duval can't shoot, IMO has limited court vision and passing ability, is not overly creative with his ball dribbling, and is too short to play anywhere but the 1.
If he's a availabe @ 27, i'll pass.

Draft lottery is Tuesday May 15. Apparently we have a slightly less than 3% chance of getting the Lakers' pick, which would be either the 2nd or 3rd pick in the draft. The explanation for this is that based on the Lakers' record, they can only move up from [HASH]10 to one of the 3 top picks, and if it's [HASH]1 it goes to the Sixers.
So, about a 3% chance of winding up with a quality big man to learn from and play next to Al for the next several years. I'm assuming we'd go big if we're drafting this high, because we are loaded at PG and on the wing. But you never know with Danny.
Hope we can get lucky again!

There is a big drop off of talent after [HASH]9. I am def not expecting the LAL pick this year. Danny likes defensive orientated players that can play multiple positions. Maybe a combo guard, or stretch 4 w/ the BOS selection.

40 days left to draft day (and draft lottery is in 4 days, when we find out if luck is on our side by getting the 2nd or 3rd pick).
We've already started to bring in guys for workouts. Among the guys of interest are PJ Washington from Kentucky and Shamorie Ponds from St. Johns.

Danny always says "best player available" but do we really have room for another PG or wing? Isn't this draft supposed to be loaded with big guys? I just hope we get lucky and wind up with the second or third pick. I trust Danny to take it from there.

I just hope we get lucky and wind up with the second or third pick. I trust Danny to take it from there. I think we do. Hey, at this rate, Terry Rozier is going to become an expensive player -- maybe too expensive for us. He could be a starter on many teams, but not an All-Star caliber player. How much is he going to cost us is what we have to factor into the equation. On then there's Smart. If teams miss out on the main free agents this summer, and they have money to spend, they may be willing to bid on Smart, more than we're willing to go. Shane Larkin has said that he'll see what offers come his way this summer. It's not guarantee he'll be back. We don't know if Kadeem Allen is NBA material yet. So we may be on the lookout for a PG who we can groom to be a fit on this team, to take the place of those who leave, or become too expensive for us to keep.

Frankly, the timeline is not next year, but the year after for the luxury tax to begin. Then its 3 out of 4 years for the repeater tax. GS, even friendly contracts will bleed money.

That’s the logical move — but say Smart’s market is costly, and we move on from him. And then if we don’t sign Rozier to an extension, then he’ll become a free agent next summer. And say he also gets lots of offers and becomes too expensive for us to retain. We could see us lose both Smart and Rozier.
We have to look down the road, as we pony up to pay Jaylen and Tatum — and if we want to hold on to Kyrie and Hayward, we’ve got to set aside money for them too.
We need to find cheap, and productive alternatives, instead paying top dollars for role players.

So many possibilities. What if the unthinkable happens and we get to the Finals this year and play GS tough? (yeah I'm assuming GS beats Houston.) I am NOT saying that TR is as good as Kyrie, but if we get that far, and will be adding Gordon back next year, would it be crazy to think about keeping TR, who is younger (a little), healthier and cheaper than Kyrie, and trading Kyrie before he hits free agency?
In any case, I'm more concerned with using a top pick, if we get one, on beefing up an aging front line than I am in adding depth at a position where only money keeps us from having depth for years to come. We can keep ALL our guards (KI, TR, MS) and always trade someone later and probably get more for them since they will be locked up under a new contract at that point. Embiid is going to be a beast to deal with and I'd love to have someone who can make him work for years to come.

If it was the normal luxury tax, I could see management breaking bread (like cost of doing business). However, the repeater tax will make teams bleed money.

Right now, I'm leaning towards Kostas Antetokuompo with the 27th pick. He doesn't have the superstar gene like his brother Giannis -- but he does have similar height, and can do a multitude of things like his brother (just not at the same level Giannis is able to).
If anything, he gives us a versatile defender who we can throw at guys like Durant and Embiid (and Giannis).

Another guy I’m looking at @ 27 is Bonzie Colson from Notre Dame.
He’s a Draymond Green clone in terms of his game and motor. He’s also an undersized PF who can play the spot courtesy of his long arms and big body. Does seem to have a weight issue, but not Jared Sullinger level.

@27, I would like Donte D from 'nova. NBADRAFT.net projects him like Delonte West. Combo guard, shoots the 3, and has defense.

I read today, he might stay in, or might stay out. I liked NBADRAFT.net's analysis that he should stay in, because his stock is at its peak, and he is already 21. Non lottery selections are always a risk, however the great teams of recent championships always find a fit here.
