That Durant cared if the Celtics added another superstar.. Yup. Tom Brady will win him here with his smile..
We supposedly told Durant Boston was a championship town. Told him the intracies of our defense..
Yet what we should have been pitching was I am not done being trader Danny. I will get a star here to play this season. I can get Blake griffin for spare change.. Or another stud...
Yes Durant could have been here.. But we love our pipe dream rookies .... People are smart. The way to mediocrity is lined with half hearted intentions. Sign Durant. Trade all the draft picks for a stud

I honestly think Durant knew all along he wanted to go to the Warriors.
For a moment, he did consider us, but he had it in his heart that he wanted to win a championship as soon as he can.
BTW, what other superstars do you think we had a realistic shot at acquiring? Which young stud would a team have given up had we thrown a boatload of draft picks at? Jimmy Butler? Is he that great? DeMarcus Cousins? Maybe.
I mean, Danny did get one of the biggest free agents this summer, Al Horford (a guy who we heard was on the list of players Durant wanted to play with).

I agree with Derren. I think Durant had it in mind to go to the Warriors right from the beginning. He may have very briefly considered coming to Boston or going to one of the other 4 teams he met with, but I just don't see him going anywhere except GS. They are the favorites this year for a ring even without him and with him, they become far and away the favorites. Any of the other teams would just be contenders and not favorites.

I'm sure that was part of the pitch. We have tons of cap room, so can go after another star, plus we have some highly coveted Brooklyn picks that we can deal if a star becomes available.

Durant might have listened if Danny had said I have a plan to totally revamp our lineup.. I am going to trade for Griffin. Going to replace the bench with more proven vets .. Once you sign here I have commitments from agents that they will come at the vets minimum.

But how do we know he didn't say any of those things? I have to believe part of the conversation was about the team we would build around Durant and Horford. Our upcoming picks, and their potential trade value, are widely known so it's hard to believe that would not have come up. Brady was just to enhance the argument of Boston being not only a sport's town but a championship sports town - and the Celtics were smart to research how much Durant was a Brady fan.
I think it came down to what Ainge said, we couldn't offer Curry, Thompson and Green. We could throw up potential trade or FA scenarios, but none of those are guaranteed, while GS already has those guys locked down.
I still am disappointed Durant would rather join someone else's championship team than build his own legacy -- he's young enough that he could have taken a 5 year run, then at 32 would have plenty of time to go "ring chasing" if he still hadn't won. A bit too much in his prime, IMO, to relegate himself to a glorified role player.

I have to think that Danny used all of the above in his pitch. I'm sure he listed all of the Celtics assets and plans for the future. I also think that Durant wanted to go to Golden State right from the beginning. No matter what Danny promised for the future of the Celtics, the Warriors are already there. Durant wanted an easy road to a ring and that's that. I've been reading that Durant and Green have been close for awhile and just like Wade and LeBron hatched out their super team way before LBJ was a free agent, I think Durant did the same with Green.

No way to tell what was really said. Maybe we had more of a chance if golden state didn't have the big 3 already. There is no guarantee they will have chemistry..
Hoping we fix the mistake and get going on plan 1a

Gotta believe Danny and Co. pulled no punches. Gave the greatest sales pitch they could. Heck, Crowder even disclosed our defensive gameplan against the Warriors.

Too often people try to make everything that doesn't work out someone's fault. Maybe Ainge did everything right and it still didn't work out with Durant. Maybe there is nothing he could have said or done to change Durant's mind. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Maybe his mind was made up.. All that we saw from the outside was hype. If you feel no one should express a opinion that could be perceived as negative that's your right. I think that fans need to express themselves and I do believe management sees what we write. If we don't hold management accountable how do they get better?
I feel there should have been more done and could have. When you make a promise of fireworks you need to deliver.

I wonder why we didn't send out past Celtics greats. Maybe they were busy and had prior engagements or something, but I think having Bill Russell there would have been huge.

Management does not see what we write. Get a grip. And if they did read this board they'd get criticized for wasting their time doing so.

Management does not see what we write. Get a grip. And if they did read this board they'd get criticized for wasting their time doing so. Marketing people survey broad spectrums. That is their job. Did you read the article? Did you read what Danny said? I have a opinion.. I expressed it.. lol. How many fans feel the same way but don't express it. Perhaps getting Durant was a mission impossible.. This management group promised fireworks. Perhaps bad terminology because I don't want hype, short term, making a show. I want results. Personally if I promised something and didn't deliver, I would apologize. I would explain why..
