I read a article quoting Wyc .. It says potential trades were discussed.
I was wrong. That was part of the pitch..
However Smiles.. I also read that Wyc didn't think not signing him was a failure.. 😂
Oh to know what was told in that meeting..

Too often people try to make everything that doesn't work out someone's fault. Maybe Ainge did everything right and it still didn't work out with Durant. Maybe there is nothing he could have said or done to change Durant's mind. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Nailed it. I think the Celtics came in loaded for bear, and it sounds like Durant was pretty darn intrigued about playing here, but in the end no other team could offer what GS can, which is an almost guaranteed NBA championship.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained? At the very least it distracted us from going after realistic options Seriously if that was the plan. And only the plan, shouldn't you have gotten more talent on this team before the meeting?

Yeah, Wyc shouldn't have promised fireworks. Or maybe he thinks Horford was enough fireworks while the fans think of that more as a sparkler.
I agree that some of the legends would be good to have at that meeting. I think Bill Russell is having touble getting around from what I have read so maybe having him there would have been a longshot but there is Tommy, Cousy, Satch Sanders, Cowens, Havlicek and others that are always around and could have gone.

And only the plan, shouldn't you have gotten more talent on this team before the meeting? How do you do that without spending the cap room you'd need to sign Durant in the first place. And we signed the 2nd best UFA available this year with Al Horford. What really more can you ask of a team?

According to what I read there were trades mentioned. How do you do them if Durant is signed? If you can make moves worth mentioning, then why would his signature affect your making the team better. It wasn't salary issues.. Maybe it was rentals.. And he would give Ainge the courage to go all in..
