I've watched the McDonald's All American game a couple of times, watching these highly touted prospects. But I gotta tell you, I just don't see the making of future transcendent players that they're being hyped up to be.
Jayson Tatum, Markelle Fultz, Josh Jackson, Frank Jacksn, Lonzo Ball, DaAaron Fox ...... didn't impress me. Harry Giles wasn't in that game, but the young kid already has had 2 major knee injuries!!
But I tell you the 2 players who I do think could be really good players: Dennis Smith, Jr and Bam Adebayo (Dennis wasn't in the McD's game). Smith is a PG heading to NC State, and Bam is a PF who will be playing for Kentucky.
But aside from them, I don't see the hype.

I don't know, DM, I'm getting really excited for this draft. Love Fultz, Smith Jr, Ball, Giles and Jackson. there is also that Euro PG that has a lot of people talking.

I'll give you, Fultz. He made back to back three's that showed his poise in controlling the game. But even him, no elite speed, no elite athleticism, not a big time scorer or passer.
Lonzo Ball has great size for the Point, definitely has passing skills and the vision as well. But that shot is ugly, and I don't quite see the penetration ability.
Giles is a scary one. Bad knees on a big man is a bad sign.
Josh Jackson is wild. Loses control of the ball a lot! I also sense a level of fear in the guy. I feel Jaylen Brown was, is, a better prospect.

I think it's way overrated way early.
Skal Lab was the can't miss guy this time last year

I think it's way overrated way early. Skal Lab was the can't miss guy this time last year People in the know weren't hyping up this past year's draft. They knew there were only a few really good players. They are certainly hyping up this one, though. I see a lot of players who have good upside, but I do not see transcendent players, franchise changing players. I see players who may be around Jaylen Brown's caliber -- lots of upside, but not superstar talent.

They can know all they want.
The Anthony Davis draft....they hyped that one. Picks 2 through 5 basically busted. Pick 8 busted. Then picks 9 thru 33 basically busted.
The 4th best player in that draft was taken [HASH]35
A year out Sully was supposedly a top 5 pick.
I'll wait to see how these guys actually do in college then we'll see what goes from there. These guys are all 19 and one and done. We're basically back to the days of the high school kids.

Yeah, definitely. I'm already not seeing the hype in this draft, and the college season hasn't even started yet.
But I remind you, keep tabs on Dennis Smith Jr. (now maybe I'm hyping him prematurely).
But yeah, you're right. Every draft gets hyped up to a degree, and we are left fairly disappointed. Not every draft is like the 2003.

Giles is like Powe, part 2 except some team will draft him high.

Yup, like Powe in terms of his knees might not hold up to allow him to have a long and successful career.
But revisiting this post, my top 2 personal interests are in
Dennis Smith Jr Jayson Tatum
And I think there are going to be players taken after the top 5, all the way into the 20's who will end up better than the more highly rated players projected to go top 5.

As has been the case for many years now. High schoolers (back when they were allowed to enter the draft) and freshmen have been drafted a lot, and early on, in the drafts. I wouldn't say they are unknown, since most of these kids have been scouted, some as early as their middle school time.
But I would caution the excitement for some of these incoming freshmen. Harry Giles, in addition to his knee injuries, does not show me the kind of polish, or the level of skill set I'm looking for in a potential [HASH]1 pick. And he seems to be brash; kind of like Nick Young (which can rub people the wrong way).
Josh Jackson is another. Admittedly, I wasn't high on Jaylen Brown last year at Cal, and I have since changed my mind about him to a certain degree. But I am even less impressed about Jackson. He's athletic and explosive, but he's sloppy and lacks polish as well.

Fultz & Taytum are on my top 2 watch list...Just need the Nets to suck enough so we get the pleasure of deciding which we should pick. Thing is if we do go with Fultz, I'm fully expecting IT to be traded before his contract is up. Ainge isn't known for giving out big contracts and I don't think he'll want to get nothing for IT before IT leaves.

Yeah, those 2 are in my top 3 - 4 right now.
I'm trying to gauge where my interest in Giles lies. If he's a standout defensive player (block shots and rebounds) who provides some offensive production, there's value in that type of player on our team.

I refuse to even entertain the idea of Giles. Even if he is a monster in college this year. His knees are a major question mark. In fact its so big of a question that I don't see a long career for him.
