I admit it makes some sense to gamble on an Upshaw at some point in the draft. If you're gonna fail you may as well fail big. Case in point....in the 6 picks after JR Giddens 3 big guys were picked....Pekovic, DeAndre Jordan, and Omer Asik.
Also if we had gotten aggressive in that draft and moved up from 30 to 15 the following options were available....Robin Lopez, Hibbert, JaVale McGee, JJ Hickson, Ryan Anderson, Kosta K, Serge Ibaka. Ibaka was picked 24th.

Here's a quote from Oubre
Kelly Oubre on meeting with the @celtics: "It was a great staff and interview. Coach Stevens and I talked about growing together."
I'm not a huge Oubre fan but trust the Celtics and Stevens know what they want. James Young is already on this roster, IMO Oubre and Young are similar.

Man that Robert Upshaw measured out of this world. I could see him climbing up draft boards. Can't teach height. Man Upshaw has all the tools but being thrown out of two different schools with his kind of talent is scary. Here is a good interview with him www.draftexpress.com/article/Robert-Upshaw-Workout-Video-4967/I saw a handful of his games but never saw him shoot the ball like he did a little in this video. I don't think the Celtics should risk a guaranteed 1st round contract on Upshaw but if he's around at 33 the Celtics should take the chance. Maybe Stevens can turn him around. That 33 pick is going to be an important one!

As much as I think we need bigs if Kelly Oubre is the right guy and the best guy we gotta take him. Paul Pierce slipped to 10. Sometimes you gotta pull the trigger no matter what. The Blazers didn't take Michael Jordan because they had Clyde Drexler. Big mistake. I don't see enough from James Young to warrant not picking a guy at his spot. You can always trade one. Competition is a good thing. I'm pretty sure Jordan and Drexler could have worked out

KP to Eja. Can't agree more. This team needs talent. Despite this playoff run, this team is still a ways off from contending. We should be in asset collection mode right now. When we are finally looking like a good team we can then make some deals and get players that will fit the roster better. But right now if a player looks like they could be all-star caliber, we need to pull the trigger regardless of position.
I'm still using my psychic abilities to convince Danny to trade up for Kristaps.

Sounds like a David Kahn type of draft when he selected Flynn, and Rubio (kept both) in front of Curry; then he selects Lawson after Curry, but trades him immediately to DEN. Note - all 4 are PGs. KAHN!

Not keen on Oubre. Could turn out to be like Trevor Ariza, but I'm hoping for more impactful players.
Myles Turner at 16 would be a steal. Or even moving up into the top 10 to get him would be good.

Young definitely could be on par with Oubre and Stanley Johnson this year. Give or take.

Oubre's athleticism and defense is better than Young's, which gives him more versatility and value. Young is a better deep shooter.
Stanley Johnson is potentially better than either.

Jarell Martin is a big talent, but his measurables were average. Most likely to play the 4, but he's only 6'8" with a 6'9" wingspan. Not bad, but I think it didn't help raise his stock. But I like this kid. Reminds me of Julius Randle with a better outside shot.

If we stay at 16, there aren't many players who are likely to be at that range I'd like to draft more than Bobby Portis.
I already felt he had good all around skills for a 6'10" PF, but when I read he has a relentless motor on both ends of the floor, and he tries to model his game after KG's, including the intensity level, that made me like him even more.

Danny almost always drafts BPA. Generally, a player that is NBA defensive ready. I really hope this years players fill a need too.
