Could this year be the year the cowboys are actually good? jerry jones is like the anti ainge. He's telling everyone how he wanted manziel and wants to trade for him. I think they made the right pick with zach martin. Their defense lost their 3 best players but im glad they've gone back to the 4-3 and bigger players vs the stuff they were playing with before. Apparently Jerry was the only guy who wanted manziel and his son pulled the trigger on martin. I'm glad if jerry isn't running things and is becoming more of a figure head. Every year though they seemingly have a team on paper and do stupid things though. There's a lack of direction and fundamentals with that team. Jimmy Johnson basically said it they drive the ball up and down the field make crucial mistakes, don't play defense. Make poor decisions in the red zone. Abandon the running game and dont' control the clock. Lack of direction and a heart on that team just the same.
Jimmy Johnson was the fire behind that team and they haven't been the same since. Michael Irvin, Emmitt and Troy all those guys had that special something that so many athletes lack these days. I like Romo and all and root for him but that team drives me nuts.
The patriots still have brady and belickick at least. I can count on them to put up good seasons. They haven't been able to win themselves though or get over the hump in a long time though because they let players go. They let Ty Law go and refused to pay him. This is the first year they've paid to bring back a stud cornerback. Could be their year.
I kind of like the cowboys this year as a sleeper team but once the season starts I may feel differently. They have a big offensive line again and are more reliant on a different kind of defense. Not huge on DeMarco murray though. He's ok. Dude is always hurt and no emmitt smith. Some players get overrated on their ability sometimes when Emmitt was something else. There's absolutely no comparison between Murray and Smith in my book.

That team will go as Romo goes and how their defense plays. Unfortunately on paper their defense looks terrible and is going to take some really good coaching. And Romo is a moron normally. Romo is another rone of those guys that makes amazing plays and puts up huge numbers but as far as consistency and big game winning plays he's terrible.
Emmit and Troy and all those guys in big games you always knew they were going to show up and prove the doubters wrong. I was not a doubter of them. Romo I doubt and he proves me right. Typical overrated and underrated stuff. Still root for romo though. I like as a player. He has that shane falco personality from the replacements thing going on but I don't know if its a mirage or what. I never believed that movie overly. I'm more a hoosiers guy. Although the replacements was a great movie. Both good underdog stories.
I'd like to see Romo turn it around and win one... He's 34 this is his time if any. It has to come in the next year or so it's growing short and regardless of jerry and his crap.
If know Romo's story though it's a good one. He was discovered and wasn't even invited to the draft stuff. He was there because he was the guy who threw the ball in drills for other players. Sean Payton who was on the cowboys staff knew him because he coached him in college. The cowboys had a scout who was friends with sean payton and knew of romo because of him and talked to him during drills and really liked him and his personality and how he threw the ball. He wanted the cowboys to draft him and thought they might in the 6th round b ut they passed on him. They then brough romo in as a practice squad guy.
That's why sometimes it's not always the player too though. It's the team. The cowboys as an organization lack something and one guy can't do it all himself. Parcells and Jerry had nothing to do with bringing romo in either. It was Sean Payton and a scout on the team.

I'm a tad disappointed we didn't do the fantasy league this year. Maybe we could still do it

I already have 2. I could maybe do 1 more but that's a a lot. Usually 2 is my limit.

Just watching the seahawks green bay right now. The seahawks look unstoppable per usual. They have done a great job and have changed the nfl imo. So many great passing teams the past several years. They don't let teams pass deep on them at all. It's like watching a college team the way they play in ways. Their coach has done a great job of getting talented players in their who can play his schemes. makes me wonder how other college systems would work at the pro level with that kind of talent. They look like a dynasty though to me which is rare in football these days because their personnel and how they play is so different and counters all great qb's like brady, manning and Rodgers.
They look even more unstoppable this year with percy harvin on one side. That play where they faked to harvin then went to Lynch on the other side was sick. They've been doing that all night mixing it up faking or going to those guys. They have a mobile qb.

Seattle look real tough. They beat up on a Packers team that will probably win 10-12 games this year. Seattle is gonna go down a peg or two over the next couple of years when more of their young talent hits unrestricted free agency. Aint no way they'll keep that squad under the cap.

cowboys getting killed... Why turn the ball over 3 times in the first whatever. They are looking like the raiders early. Turnovers, penalties bleh.

good job romo throwing into triple coverage. could have been a game. Had the ball coming out the second half. It's been the same story with this team for the last 20 years. Jerry Jones is al davis.

Was pleased with the Vikings performance today. The Rams aren't very good, but I'll take what I can get. That Peterson/Patterson combo is gonna give teams fits this season.

The broncos are looking unstoppable again too. Wouldn't be surprised to see a rematch of sorts in the superbowl. The colts gave up on Manning. they got andruw luck and started a rebuild there but damn. The colts couldn't draft another qb after manning retired? I remember when manning was drafted and not sure i'd ever trade that guy. He was a once in a lifetime QB coming out. Luck is super talented but has a ways to go. Favre to Rodgers same thing goin g to Minnesota but MAnning might be better than favre. Both once in a lifetime qb's though.

I agree with what you said about Romo. Really like the way he can really make some exciting and amazing things happen, but the guy can never get it done when it's needed. He'll always find a way to keep you in the game, and then find a way to lose it. I don't know if the shortcomings are his fault or the fact that the Cowboys haven't had a consistently solid defense or coaching staff in a while. Too many mistakes, and no real interest in building a team - just building an entertaining one.

That is the issue. No urgency or caring about winning. They had a chance to make it a game. Even at the end of the game they were down 18 points. The game was all but over. They had the ball at the 5 yard line 2 minutes and 30 seconds left. San fran has a timeout due to injury, the cowboys still can't get a play off and let the clock run to the 2 minute warning. I hate stuff like that drives me nuts. Why care as a fan when the team obviously doesn't care. The cowboys still play when they are down that's something that would make me think hey the team is trying and romo is being a leader and get me excited to root for a team like that but they dont' care. That interception was the same thing in the end zone. He had Dwayne harris wide open on a 3 step drop simple play. Romo scrambles tries to make something exciting happen and throws into triple coverage. Same reason why I always loved emmitt smith and think some players are overrated and don't make winning plays.
No winning mentality. The thing is Jerry doesn't get it either. He'd sit there and say some guy is saying this from his couch when this same stuff has gone on ever s ince jimmy left. And Jerry is a defeatist and lets it go on. His ego won't allow him to realize it either. This stuff should not be acceptable. Jason Garrett doesn't do anything about it either. It's good to be positive and everything but if the team doesn't care that's an issue.

what's sad to me is because of the way the nfl is and how they've changed the rules to cater to high passing numbers romo's career numbers are going to to put him up with some of the all time greats even though his career was shortened, when he isn't even close to that. that's where record and winning is important. I don't know if it's romo or the cowboys fault though. I more blame the cowboys for letting him play like that time and time again. Romo is a talented guy and it's more just a shame to me.
