If we can keep the TOs under 20, I'll be happy. I'm happy...

I took my Sister and nieces out for a bite to eat. I was shocked to find nobody had been here too.

GGreen got 17 minutes; Reed got 6. So for tonight, Doc moved Reed down to break up the Gomes/Reed pairing.

Sorry fellas, had to do some exercising (shot some hoops) and was spending time with my neice. I was eager to find out if we won the game or not, and I wasn't disappointed ;D
Real good win. Of course, the Nets were without the main part of their engine (Jason Kidd), and both RJ and Vinsanity only played 15 minutes. But this game had a lot of bright spots for us. First of all, Orien Greene is the most effective passing PG we have right now. Had 4 assists tonight in 19 minutes. I don't know if Rivers is just using him more than Dickau just to get a better look at him before the season starts, or if Orien has jumped ahead of Dickau. But Dickau only got 9 minutes tonight.
Delonte had the most minutes among PG's and he did a good job of doing the little things. He only had 1 assist in 23 minutes, but he shot the ball well, had no turnovers, and he had 5 steals.
Big Al only got 18 minutes, so it seems as though Rivers is slowing implementing him into the rotation. We need to monitor AJ's conditioning because in his first game vs. Toronto, he came out strong, but was winded later in the game. Tonight, he had 10 pts on 4 - 8 shooting, and only 3 rebounds (but also had 2 blocks and 2 steals).
Perkins is getting less playing time. Had only 9 minutes tonight. Justin Reed only got 6.
We still committed way too many turnovers. 19 TO's are going to kill us in the regular season.
Gomes had a lot of minutes, only second to Ricky. He shot the ball well, had 15 pts and 4 rebounds. Good to see a rookie like him gaining Rivers' confidence and producing in the minutes Rivers is giving him.
Pierce was solid, like how he should be. He was an all around threat tonight, scoring 12 pts, pulling down 11 boards, and dishing out 6 assists, all in only 20 minutes. Ricky didn't score a bucket, but he did have 4 assists and 5 steals.
Nice win after 4 humbling losses. I'm curious to hear Rivers' post game interview to find out how he sees our PG situation.

Game thoughts...
Mark Blount, hate to say it Derren, but he is looking VERY good at the moment. His passing from the high post has been very good. HE is hitting guus cutting for layups and hitting his 15-18 footers with regularity. EVen his weak side D seems to be back. HE is even moving his feet after switching on the pick and rolls. HE MAY BE BACK TO 2003 FORM, (We can only hope)
Paul Pierce, THe best p;ayer on the floor night in and night out so far. Had 11 boards 2 minutes into the 3rd quarter, and would have had a triple double, but on a couple of layup attempts our boys were getting hacked after some nice passes from P 2. I'm looking forward to a HUGE year from Paul.
Ricky Davis, his shot is NOT falling right now. IT seems to be very flat. His hustle on D was outstanding. He earned the Tommy award tonight.
Ryan Gomes, he may be moving into the starting role right now. He hit a long threee pointer with the clock winding down. He gives consistant effort when he is out there, and for the time being he is a better rebounder than Justin Reed.
Raef, has been stroking the ball very well all pre season long. He is getting up and down the court, even getting some easy layups on the front end of some nice feeds from P2.
Big Al, I love the way Tommy just laughs when he scores. This was a better game from AL tonight. I would still like to see him throw it out alittle more often. He needs to catch the ball a little closer to the basket.
Orien Green, THis kid is the goods. HE had a real sweet no look bouce pass off the dribble with his right hand that , I think it was Gomes, just layed it in for a bucket,. (it mihgt have been BLUNT)
Orien at this point WILL be the backup PG. And, believe it or not, I can see him starting some time around the all star break if he keeps this level of play up.
With him in the starting lineup, he will make everyone want to run the way he distributes the ball. He has some real nice handles, and sees his court vision is something that NONE of our current PG's have(maybe Dan, but his D is as advertised)
Orien may be the real steal of this draft, and not Ryan or Gerald. And we all know that Gerald will be a star and that Ryan may even srart at the 3, so that is saying something.

Right on, LH8. Thanks for the insight. I am getting really anxious about seeing Orien play. Everywhere I visit, fans are raving about him. I can't believe how lucky we got by landing Gerald at 18, Gomes at 50, and Orien at 53. Its like the further down the draft we go, we receive a bigger present!!
Orien, from what I've been reading, is the best passing PG we have. He runs the break the best, and he's good at penetrating and dishing. Plus he's got defensive abilities and he's long and tall.
I'm just like Tommy when I see Big Al. I laugh in disbelief when Jefferson scores. I regularly wear out the rewind button on the remote when Jefferson is in the game because its outrageous how easily he gets his shot off. He is an unreal talent even if he's just going off of instinct.
Though I am not a Blount fan, I will admit that I'm encouraged to hear Blount doing well. When you said that he is even moving his feet after a pick, it took me by surprise. Maybe he really has changed. The Blount I know wouldn't know what to do after the pick. He would just sit back after the pick and wait for the ball to be kicked back to him. But if he's rolling with the penetrator, this allows him to get a shot closer to the basket where his athleticism and length will get him a good shot at the rim or get fouled so that he can go to the line. Nice job Blount. But I will still be somewhat skeptical. Maybe in January, if he's still playing this well, I'll start giving him some slack ;D

my biggest disappointment was perkins' minutes Yeah, I was a bit suprised to see both his and Reed's minutes so low in this game. I thought Doc wanted Perkins to get more minutes this year. We need all the rebounding we can get and Perkins is our best positional rebounder. We'll have to wait to see how Doc uses them 2 in the coming games to see if this is his new trend or if it was just for this game.

Made both his shots, had only one foul and only one turnover, so it did not seem he did anything that would deserve to be sat. And he tied for team high with 2 blocks. In a blow out game, it is surprising Doc could not find more time for him. It drove me crazy last year that no matter how well he rebounded and how poorly Blount did, Blount still go the minutes. I hope Blount's apparent resurgence does not make Doc forget about Perkins, because Perk is flat out the better rebounder, shotblocker than Blount and over time has the better chance of being the anchor we need at the 5.

i just finished watching the second toronto game. honestly blount still wears mittens although he hustles more. not much of a progress in my book. still hope he's being showcased.
dickau is worse than orien that's for sure. when dickau has a problem bringing ball up court against pressure defense then orien just runs past the defender. with ease. i even liked delonte... sclabrine could be ok player when he gets accustomed with the surroundings but right now he's defensive liability. also you can't have raef and blount on the floor at the same time, too much risk again at the defensive end.
i'm also waiting for ricky to explode. he usually does after he's had several low-scoring games. overall the starters are ok, got to find right combinations everywhere...

Yep, I don't like the Raef/Blount combination because of the defense. They just aren't impactful enough to own the paint.

I don't want to be a jerk but I don't think a great team plays aweful for 4 games like that while people are looking for spots, but even good teams take a while to gel or have a bad week, but I need to see more than that before I get off their back.
I am noticing some things and having some thoughts.
Last night Borchardt got 2 rebs in 3 mins and is a 7ft 1rst rnder Scala got 3 rebs in 15 mins and is a 6 ft 9 2nd rnder. Hmmmm
Is it practicle from a salary cap point of view to waive Dickau? He's being clearly outplayed by DWest and Ogreene
Wow it's great to see how we can beat up on a team without Kidd or Krstic and when Vince and rJeff play less than 16 mins
Reed hardly played, but if I was Doc i would have given him a rest too considering he was practically the only one who played the last 5 games and it's hard to play 1 on 5 all the time.

Its not practical to dump Dickau just because Delonte and Greene outplay him. We still should keep 3 PG's on the roster and since we won't know if Banks is coming back this season, Dickau will give us that 3rd PG. We should still give him more of a chance because Ainge obviously saw something in his game which excited him.
No doubt that we are all getting excited about the future of this team. But we aren't guaranteed to be an awesome team in the future. We still need a couple of pieces, IMO. Right now, the Center spot is looking like the biggest department to keep an eye out for. PG just got a little better because of Orien Greene--but he's still not a sure thing. Time will tell.

On paper Dickau should be the best pg on the team and is most experienced but currently he is worst. I would think since they can only keep so many players he would be the one to be cut. They can't send Banks to the NBDl cause he's been here too long. They can't send Dickau for the same reason. They can't send Ogreen or Delonte cause they are the 2 best pgs. They can send Bynum. Why not just keep Bynum if we want a 4th so bad? I mean when Banks comes back Dickau will be the 4th pg? don't we need to cut someone? Right now I'd rather cut him that Borchardt. Bynum doesn't impress me
