Let's hope money doesn't have a play in this, from either side... lol

So I'm hearing its between a 2 and 5 year sentence. Is there any possibility that he can get off with a hefty fine and a lot of community service instead of jail time? If not, I guess Tony Allen is getting what he deserves. He's paying the consequences of his mistake.

it's probation or 2-5 years in prison.

OK, I'm hoping he gets the probabtion. Tony is one heck of an athlete who can really help us out with his versatile play and his aggressiveness (which hadn't been seen much late last season). I'd hate to lose him for any extent of time.

Why don't we just trade him to some sucker team for a good player who doesn't get himself in trouble? I don't get it. The guy comes here for a year, makes a few defensive stops, makes a few buckets, smiles, has a good summer league and now we're married to the guy for better or worse? What is he? Our child that we love no matter what? This is a business. You can't dump someone you had feelings for and move on? The next thing we know he's gonna have a press conference and cry about how he's made a mistake and buy an $8 million ring for the guy he beat up and expect people to feel sorry for him. If you don't have a tough GM you can't have a tough team. The message being sent is it's ok to get arrested and charged as long as you can prove innocence or get probation. Now we're a thug team. Now we're the Dallas Cowboys.

You funny guy, you.
How many times have you seen the word "lawyer" in stories related to this event?
Believe me, there is money involved.
Part of my reason for thinking we're not going to see much out of Allen until at least mid-season is that he apparently has trouble concentrating. Well, with the cops and lawyers and "other guys" after his butt and his money, he is going to have even more trouble keeping his mind on the court.
The death knell hasn't tolled, however. I don't yet think we've seen a "pattern" of problems evolve. He CAN let this be one bad event and get on with his life and his career. Regardless of which team a kid plays for, I have to pull for him to get his act together. He has talent, the chance to play a game with talent---something most of us would like to be able even to fantasize about---and make a lot of money. Squandered opportunities are always a tragedy of Faustian proportion.
Oh, for the old days. After Bias died, I seem to recall Bird commenting abourt what a tragedy it was, nad that if he had only gotten to training camp, some of the veterans would have straightened him out if there was a problem like that.
And, now, the team leader---PP----has opened a karaoke club!
Hope they have a no-gun policy. Mixing broads and booze is enough of a problem.

If we become the new Trailblazers I will stop watching the team till they change coaches, GMs, and players. And maybe owners. I guess a certain amount of this was inevitable with so many dumb young guys and no vet leaders. It's not like you could trust PP to take you under his wings. What would he say? 'If you ever get stabbed in the face 9 times do this.. then years later complain about the dress code"?

I would have no problem getting rid of a trouble maker if I didn't think he'd be a valuable part of the team. But with Tony Allen, I view him as a special talent who can be a valuable role player on our team. Not that's he's irreplaceable, but I really like what I see out of Allen.
I don't like it that he's gotten himself in trouble with the law. But this may prove to be a valuable learning experience for him, as well as an enormous example for our other young players to learn from.

MAYBE a couple of nights in jail will make an indelible impression. Years ago I rode often with a student who was a policeman who worked night shifts. Went with him one night to the local jail to take care of some business. I was on the OUTSIDE of the bars, but it made an impression on me.
Can just partially imagine what that would look like from INSIDE.

Isaiah Rider was one of the most talented players around. Hugely more talented than TA. But he was not valuable to his team

He wasn't much more talented than Tony, but he's far less of a team player than Tony. TA does a lot of the little, unnoticed things for the team that make him a fantastic team player.

well this time TA did kind of a big thing where he put himself before the team and it got noticed just fine by the police. If he's such a team player why is he out with the wrong people doing wrong stuff? If he's such a team player let's see him plead guilty and plea bargain for a gillion hours community service, probation, drop his gangsta attitude and give his bling to a local charity to pawn for pople that need it. A team player is a team player on and off the court. Not a team player on and a playa off.
