Derren had asked me to try to do reviews on individual performances after every game as supposed to box scores. This is more for people who did not see the game. I caught the second quarter on, so here goes:
(Stats may be off. I have not checked the box score)
Blount - had another strong performance with points, rebounds, and passing, although he got carried away with the passing at times and forced it in and turned it over a few times, but he did have 3 nice assists that resulted in easy baskets. It seemed as if they were looking to get him the ball a lot when he was in the game. He mixed it up down low a bit, and shot the ball well from the outside (15 footers) I think he had a double- double or close to it. He showed good emotion as well. Hope this keeps up.
Pierce – had another solid performance. He scored well, and shot with a high percentage from the field, as well as from downtown. Didn’t try to force many shots, if any, (I did see 1 he forced, though) He let the young kids play and get their shots as well. He didn’t dominate the ball. Played within the team concept.
Delonte West – Disappointed me. Had A LOT of trouble bringing the ball up the court. The Bulls kept pressing him and trapping him, and he turned the ball over a lot. Some of the good things that he did in the game were hustling (as usual) and going up for rebounds. Had some incredible tip-ins over some of the Bulls 4’s. One thing is for sure; he always gets his nose dirty.
Dan Dickau – didn’t do too much. Looked tentative. Ran the offense ok, but really didn’t produce any baskets (assists) It just seemed that as soon as he got the ball he just passed it right away to someone else, without setting up any pick and rolls, pick and pops, etc. He needs to be more aggressive, and assertive on the court I think. Hopefully this will get better. I am going to start calling him Ickau because he has no D. This was not a surprise to anyone anyway. He has trouble staying in front of everyone.
O Greene – this is the player that impressed me the most. I didn’t see the last two games, but this was my first actual look at Greene. He played the best game out of the three point guards. He is obviously young, but he had several nice dishes to open teammates for easy baskets. He had one dribble drive where he span, and dished off to Blount who blew the bunny. That was the same play D West tipped in. He played stellar defense, diving on the floor (Tommy Points), and hustling all over the place, and he really tried to set up his teammates better than Dickau. If I am not mistaken he probably had the most assists out of the point guards, or so it seemed. Hopefully he learns quickly.
Perkins – worst game of preseason. It seemed like every rebound he jumped for, he was called for an over the back foul. That’s probably why he didn’t have that many rebounds. 5 fouls I believe, not a lot of PT because of it. At least he is hustling on the boards. Maybe he can work with Heinsohn on his boxing out fundamentals. Next game he will play better.
Reed – didn’t see much of, usual hustle.
Raef Lafrentz – looked solid, not outstanding. Raef is old reliable. You can always count on him to hit the open jumper, 3 pointer, hustle for rebounds. Didn’t check the box score, but he played solid.
Ricky – Looked for his shot a little more. Didn’t shoot the ball great, but got mostly good looks, and some were “in and out’s”. He probably had the shot of the night, where he drove baseline span around with his back to the basket and threw it over his head over two defenders, high and all net. (Kinda reminded me of Antoine) lol circus shot. He passed well.
Bynum – did not see much of
Gerald Green – came in towards the 4th quarter and got a little run. He scored the ball. I think he had like 2 baskets. One alley-oop from Bynum where he layed it off the glass, and one jumper where he smoothly jumped up high over his defender and drained the 15 footer. He can score. Future 20-25 ppg scorer depending on how he develops.
Scalabrini – did not see much of. Was aggressive as usual. Did not force too much.
Gomes – saw a little, not much thoughts.
If I forgot anyone major, sorry…
