3rd quarter underway.
CHI attacks first and gets the hoop, 49 - 48.
Pierce gets fouled and hits both shots, 51 - 48.
Powell gets a layup and the FT attempt, which he converts, 51 - 51.
Ricky Davis gets a layup, 53 - 50.
Delonte fouls Chandler, but Tyson misses both attempts.
Delonte is taken out for Orien Greene. In an interesting move, Doc elects to go with Orien off the bench instead of Dickau. Is this just a ploy of his to keep Hinrich in check?
Blount gets fouled and hits both FT's, 55 - 51.
Orien fouls Chandler (why are our PG's fouling Chandler?), and Tyson hits both shots, 55 - 53.
Orien converts a layup, assist from Blount, 57 - 53.
Chandler commits the offensive foul. Boston ball.
Pierce hits a three pointer, assist from Ricky, 60 - 53. Well, we know that the first unit can score, and that's what they are doing.
Raef gets a layup, assist from Orien Greene, and hits the And 1, 63 - 53.
Songaila gets a layup, assist from Hinrich, 63 - 55.
Pierce gets a layup, assist from Blount, 65 - 55.
We have already scored 16 pts in under 5 minutes of the 3rd quarter, while only scoring 19 pts the entire second quarter.
Sweetney dunks the ball, assist from Hinrich, 65 - 57.
Our offense gets its second :24 second violation of the game. Seems to be happening more frequently this year as opposed to last year. Guys are being a bit too tentative at times?
Songaila makes a 7 footer, 65 - 59.
Powell steals the ball and soars in for the layup, 65 - 61.
Sorry, went for a bathroom break. Continuing on.
Score is 71 - 67, BOS
Doc is using the second unit less than he did in the first half. Thus we have been more consistent.
Dan Dickau comes in for Orien Greene (who did well in his 12 minutes of play so far. Has 2 steals). Maybe Doc wants more offense now.
Sweetney converts a basket, and the And 1, 71 - 70. Gee, I am going to enjoy watching the Big Al vs. Mike Sweetney matchup whenever we go up against the Bulls.
Ricky gets fouled, but misses both FT's. Blount is there for the offensive rebound and gets the ball Pierce, who gets the ball to Ricky, who converts the layup and gets fouled. But he misses his 3rd straight FT. 73 - 70.
Blount fouls Hinrich, who only makes 1 of 2 FT's. 73 - 71.
Gomes grabs the offensive rebound off of Davis' miss and Sweetney fouls him. Gomes only hits 1 of 2, 74 - 71.
Hinrich comes right back and hits a huge three pointer, 74 - 74 tied again.
Blount commits another offensive foul (he has 6 turnovers now). Perkins comes in for him.
Perkins fouls Sweetney, who hits 2 of 2, 74 - 76, CHI
Bynum and Delonte are in now, giving us speed to get the final shot with just :04 seconds in the 3rd quarter.
Down by 2 heading into the 4th quarter.
Chicago has followed its trend of upping their scoring in every quarter: 19, 27, 30. While we showed some inconsistencies: 30, 19, 25.
We need a strong 4th quarter. Turnovers are killing us. We've committed 19 already and we still have a whole 4th quarter to go.

CHI strikes first in the 4th. Harrington makes his shot, 74 - 78, CHI.
Scala gets fouled and hits 1 of 2, 75 - 78, CHI.
Scala gets fouled again, but misses both attempts.
Powell gets a layup, 75 - 80, CHI
We are allowing too many layups. This is disturbing.
Score is now 75 - 83, CHI.
Both teams have struggled scoring, but they have built an 8 pt lead with 5 minutes remaining in the game.
Perkins fouls Duhon, who hits 2 of 2, 85 - 75, CHI
Chicago scores off a steal, 87 - 75.
Boston finally scores, as Gerald Green converts a shot, assist from Will Bynum, 87 - 77.
Chicago has a 10 pt lead with a little over 4 minutes remaining. If we are going to win this game, we have to turn up our energy and get it going right now.
Songaila commits the offensive foul. Boston ball.
Justin Reed continues his poor shooting night, missing a 4 footer in the lane. We grab the rebound, but Delonte misses a 14 footer. Chicago pulls down the defensive rebound.
Bynum commits a foul on Sweetney (again, why are our PG's fouling the Bulls' big so much?). Sweetney converts both FT's, 89 - 77.
Gerald Green hits a 19 footer, 89 - 79.
Sweetney gets another bucket, 91 - 77, CHI.
Justin Reed commits an offensive foul, CHI ball.
Chris Duhon scores on a drive, 93 - 77, CHI
Delonte hits an 18 foot jumper, 93 - 79.
Sweetney gets a dunk in the lane, 95 - 79. 1:31 left in the game.
Bynum gets fouled and hits 1 of 2, 95 - 82 (someone scored, and I didn't catch it).
Piatkowski hits a technical, 96 - 82, CHI.
Gomes is back in for Reed.
Othella Harrington pulls in an offensive rebound and scores on the putback, 98 - 82, with under :20 seconds to go.
And that's the ball game, Chicago 98, Boston 82.

Still more PG questions... Dickau needs to fit/find the system before long.

Well, its disappointing in the sense that we lost the game after being ahead big time after the 1st quarter. But its not disappointing in the overall picture of the team. We played a really good team who won 47 games last season, and whose nucleus remains the same. We, on the other hand, are so new and so young that we are bound to struggle for the first couple of months as the players get acclimated with each other, with Doc Rivers, and with the system.
Lot of bad shooting tonight, but keep in mind that Chicago is one of the best defensive teams in the league.
Overall, we showed an improved rebounding effort, especially compared to last year.
Gomes and Reed are still battling it out for who'll receive more playing time and Gomes had the edge tonight. Neither had a bucket tonight, but Gomes added in 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Pierce and Blount were solid (though his 6 TO's are ugly). Raef wasn't a factor in the scoring column and Ricky was off yet again.
We show glimpses of being a terrific team, but it fluctuates quarter to quarter.
Oh well, all we can hope for at this time is for the players to start getting comfortable with each other and finding the roles. We have scorers on the team so I know that we won't struggle like this once everyone gets comfortable. Plus we can expect Jefferson to be a factor once he's back.

We are bringing in more very raw players and they need to find the way. Injuries to Al, Tony and Marcus only add to the difficulty at finding roles. They will work themselves out with time, I believe. Blount had a nice rebounding night atleast. Is Ricky thinking pass too much at this point? BTW- Thanks for the great info and play-by-play tonight! ! ! Just remember, you have NBATV to enjoy the games too.

I am concerned Dickau was not the right PG we need to run the offense. Perhaps the preseason is not a prelude to the season.

Obviously, this team is a work in progress. Perkins continues to be a rebounding machine (6 in only 12 minutes) but also a foul machine (6 in only 12 minutes). Blount seems to have rebounded well, as did Gomes. That is the one area we have shown to be a better team than last year at. But we are still turnover prone and have lapses on defense.
I'm not worried about our preseason record, given the defending champs lost their first four preseason games, and naturally you use different line ups than you may if you were coaching to win, but it still would be nice to win a few just for the players to gain some confidence.

No, not at all. Doc could have strictly used the starting lineup if he wanted to pull this one out. But clearly, he's more interested in working out players rather than just winning games.
Our rebounding numbers have been better and it'll only get even better when Jefferson returns to the lineup. But overall, with Gomes, Reed, Scalabrine, and Perkins contributing, we have much better rebounders than we had last year. I think we can go from 27th best in the league last year to about the middle of the pack this year.
Our players don't seem to know where their offense will come from, aside from Pierce, Ricky, and Blount. Blount knows what his duty is--to knock down those kick out elbow jumpers he receives from players who penetrate into the lane. Once guys like Delonte, Dickau, Scalabrine, and Gomes get a feel for where their offense will come from, they'll be looking for it and knocking it down when it presents itself.
And we must not forget that Al Jefferson is going to make a difference when he comes back. He is a legit post presence. This is not to say that he will automatically score. But his presence in the paint will make defenses pay attention to him, thus freeing up players on the perimeter as well as the opposite side of the paint from where he is.

our pg situation is worse than it seems. i also think that a lot of perkins' fouls can be attributed to our poor pg play since hinrich totally owns our pg's. and as i'va always said - what's the delonte west hype all about? the guy can't dribble, pass and shoot...

2 things:
1) our future PG is not Delonte or Dan Dickau. I can't say much for Orien Greene until I get a chance to see him play. But as of right now, and unless they really step it up tenfold, I can confidentally say that we are not championship material with Delonte or Dickau as our PG. I like Delonte as a player and as a competitor and I certainly want him on the team, but I'm not getting the gut feeling that he's the One.
2) we need more defensive players in the paint, or 1 dominant defensive player. Perkins is a nice one on one defender, but he's not our "dominant" defensive presence. And Blount is not even close. We allow too many points in the paint, especially on layups and penetrations. Perkins is not quick enough, nor explosive enough to be that dominant defensive force. He is a solid positional rebounder and by that I mean as long as he is boxing his man out, he is a strong rebounder. But because he's not explosive enough, or quick enough, he can only be a strong rebounder when he is boxing out. If he doesn't have positioning, he can be outrebounded. As for shot blocking, the same thing. He needs to be in good positioning to deflect shots. If he is out of place, he's a non factor (which is where he grabs a lot of ticky tack fouls).
Jefferson can help out in the rebounding and shot blocking areas. I really feel that this is an underrated and underappreciated part of his game. Many people just assume that he'll always be a poor defensive player because that was what his achilles heel was when he first became a Celtic. But he's very instinctual and aggressive going after rebounds and he's got a good nose for the ball defensively when looking to block a shot. And he's quick enough, athletic enough, and explosive enough to be able to do damage even when he's not in position. This gives him more of an advantage over Perkins defensively and on the boards, though Perkins has him beat when it comes to sealing his man on his behind. Jefferson just needs to develop these skills so that he can be a consistent defensive presence.

I am also getting pretty down on the pg position. DWest is the only one I have any comfort with at all. I never thought Chris Duhon was all that fast but in the 4th quarter he went by Dickau like he was nothing. I wonder if the Buls would trade him for something like Bynum, Dickau a 2nd and a hundred grand or something. Anyway if I was a coach I'd think of giving TA time there for defensive purposes. Basically admit we only have one pg on the team. Tell TA to play d, get the ball up, pass it off to an open man and that's it. They could even send him to the NBDL for a few weeks just to get pg experience but we probably need him too bad. Maybe there's a pg they can get on waivers. Troy Bell? Maybe they could trade for Chucky Atkins or something

maybe we should start ogreen at pg i know he does not have a j but playing with guys that can score will cover his weakness at the offense end ;D the kid can pass this is ;Dwhat people allways wanted in boston.
