Could this be the year of the KC Royals? Years of rebuilding and it might just be. Still not sure how i feel about the Myers Shields trade. Could have just kept Greinke and Myers and brought guys up from the minors. But the way I have justified it is that. The Royals basically have their entire farm system in tact except they traded Greinke for Escobar and Cain and traded Myers for Shields. Is Shields, Escobar, Cain and Aoki better than Greinke and Myers? I don't know but their team is still stacked. Moustakis, Hosmer, Salvy Perez, Escobar and Infante was a really good signing. Could have kept Ervin Santana but Yordano Ventura is going to be a young pitcher on the rise this year. Made Solid signings. Kept the core in tact. Gordon in left field is a top outfielder. Butler as DH. Still have prospects coming up and the best bullpen in baseball. Could be the year we finally see the Royals return to prominence after being bad for about 30 years.
I like what the royals have done. Built through their farm system and made smart trades , solid free agent signings.

Out of all my teams growing up the royals, cowboys and Celtics I like what Dayton Moore has done as a GM. Both he and Ainge know what they are doing. Jerry Jones not so much. I wanted to kill him for letting Ware walk this offseason. He was scooped up fast for good reason and signing Romo to that ridiculous deal. The cowboys have so much talent and i always like their roster but their mentality is so in left field as far as making those winning moves to get over the top. Jimmy Johnson was the guy who could do that. Jerry not so much. Still like the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins too and follow them as well. But those are my teams. Whenever one team is bad the other one seems to be good so this might be the Royals turn. The cowboys were good, then the Celtics, now it's the Royals turn I figure.
At least the Royals had a plan. Seems like they are ready to compete.

The Royals should be solid, but I don't think they'll overtake the Tigers in the central. My guess is the Tigers win the division, Cleveland and KC battle for a wild card spot, and the Twins and White Sox both lose 90+ games.

Maybe so but I'm liking the royals this year. This is the first year I can really say that with any confidence in a long long time. YOu heard it hear first. Small market teams are always fun though. I don't think the royals could have paid greinke and myers those huge dollars. Moore got creative while filling need spots and didn't lose much and they have money to pay these other guys. I at least hope they keep this team in tact somewhat going forward and that's what they are doing. Seems like it. Still have some good pitching and infield and outfield prospects coming up too.
I'm excited for baseball this year. Alex Gordon still my favorite player in baseball. I think Moustakis and Hosmer are going to break through this year too.

Always a lot of tough teams though. It's never that simple. But I will pick the Royals. I should place a bet because a lot of people probably don't think that.

I would say this is the best chance the royal's have had in ages to make some noise. They were solid last year, and a lot of their players are entering their prime. The need at least one of these young guys to really become an impact bat.
Also, it'll be interesting to see if they will pony up the cash to keep Shields. Pretty sure he is a FA after this year. He won't demand Grienke money, but it is going to cost a ton regardless.

We got David Lough from the Royals. Hoping he can be our leadoff and play outstanding defense in LF.

that's why I don't think the royals wanted to pay Santana or at least I hope. They got that other guy from the angels locked up for 4 years where they can make a run at shields maybe without having to spend too much this coming offseason. you are right about shields vs greinke though. I think shields was the more cost effective choice. their stats are similar. I just hope we can resign him or do something else.
I trust Dayton moore though. he has done a great job drafting players. The royals have always had good prospects though. It's more a matter of keeping them. Moore is from the oldschool whitey Herzog royals way of doing things and the braves and I like what he has done. It's taken patience. the royals fo ryears were just a revolving door. johnny damon, Jermaine dye, Sweeney all those guys. kevin appier. They could never put it together. I think moore has planned ahead and has a vision.
Jerry jones paying romo that huge contract then letting ware walk I don't know. It's hard to tell sometimes. Romo is their QB. Those are the tough decisions gm's have to make sometimes though. Jerry to me has money coming out his ears but the cowboys are so far over the cap and 8-8 every year.

David Lough is not a bad prospect by any means Derren. He has some upside and plays the game the right way. I think the royals wanted more speed and on base from that position why they went with Aoki. He might fit you guys though. I know he has some injury concerns though.

This teaches me to not believe the pundits once again. I'm liking sports right now although the Celtics need to get with it.

Go Royals!!! TAking it to one of the highest payrolls in baseball. Hosmer just hit a bomb. Great teams find a way.

Alex Gordon with a shot.
In other news I see on the sports ticker of the bottom of csn after the c's game the Red Sox are the frontrunners to sign James Shields. Of course they are. The Royals might have something to say about that though. More proof the boston media is awful though. Why don't teams just sign these guys? Makes me worry reading that stuff. They have a chance to have a great team for a long time. I wish I was an owner because I just would not let these guys walk.
Moustakis hits a bomb as i'm writing this. Royals omg.

Yeah that's one thing that sucks about rooting for a small market team in baseball. I saw the Twins let so many good players go in the 00s (Santana, Hunter, Koskie, Guzman, etc). It's the pits.
