Al Jefferson: What's not to like? Kendrick Perkins: Defense, outlet passing, bone-jarring screens Delonte West: Pass-first mentality with a good jump shot and defensive instincts Gerald Green: Never seen him play, but too many people rave about his limitless ceiling Tony Allen: DEFENSE, DEFENSE, Intensity, great rebounder for his size, attacks the rim and finishes well on the break, showed improved shooting in summer league, and DEFENSE.

Mev, you must be peeking over my shoulder--that's exactly who I'd keep (though still debating about Perkins). Its just too difficult not to include Tony Allen on the list.
You also don't have Pierce on your list. Interesting.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by only can keep 5, seeing as how if you traded someone you'd get someone back, but I'll think in terms of if I were starting a team or if the other players had to dissappear like in Back to the Future

I think what hes saying is who woud you keep if we could only keep five players. A purely hypothetical question

I admit I am sometimes very linear in my thinking. I just find sentences like that odd because I mean where would the others go? It implies 5 man rosters. Saying who would you put on a 5 man roster is totally different than who are the 5 best players or who would you start a team with. So I just made my assumptions of the others disappearing.

Im also assuming we would have to keep these players. If we are talking pure value, I would keep
Pierce Ricky Jefferson Green Allen
because they have the greatest value and i could use Pierce to deal to get additional players. But if im starting a team and want players to build around I would keep
Perk Jefferson Gomes Green West
Still hard to keep Allen off of there but I really like Gomes and West's potential too. It's really a toss up though

The main thing I'm trying to get out of you folks are the top 5 players you'd want to keep. You can look at it in terms of pure value or which players you like the most. Doesn't matter.

I guess pure value makes a lot of sense. MJ had the most pure value, so that makes sense. I guess I've caused trouble since my answers don't really change no matter what

I just cant believe some of you left Pierce off of your list. I think thats going a little overboard.

Well, its a bit of how things are viewed. A lot of us have a feeling toward Pierce that he needs to prove that he can be a good fit with this new era of Celtics basketball. The old regime is gone. The days of Pierce (and Walker back in the O'Brien/Pitino era) doing all the scoring while the other guys are standing beyond the arc is no longer the way things are done here. While he did make big improvements last year as the year progressed, he did stagnate things at times with his actions. And while he doesn't go one on one nearly as often as he used to, he's still not giving up the ball quick enough to keep the ball moving around the court.
But I must admit that I feel a lot better about Pierce's future here than I did in the past 2 years, and that trend may continue.

Lets hope Pierce can retire a celtic given that he can accept a big paycut seeing no team will pay him his current money PLUS buy into the team system. I just have a feeling Ricky will be here for the long run instead of Pierce though. I can't see Pierce totally changing. Ricky has.

And chances are, PP won't want to reduce his role and play with a better attitude.

Still though, If you could only keep 5 guys off of this roster, Pierce wouldnt be one of them? Jeez, his trade value alone makes him incredibly valuable if nothing else.
