Not much is known about this 23 yr old kid. Unless you've watched him play at some point during his college career (both at Florida and Lousiana-Lafayette), no one has much input of his game.
All I've seen is a few clips from Yahoo sports, and from that, I can tell you this much:
--Orien Greene is a tall and long armed guy. Standing at 6'4" ~ 6'5" with arms and fingers reach down close to his knees, he's got an advantage over most PG's in the NBA. His body is slender, but he's not a skinny player.
--Orien is a quicker player than Delonte. This is not to say that Delonte is slow (I actually feel Delonte's speed is a bit underrated). But Orien has longer strides that take him to the basket faster.
--I've heard it said that Orien is a freakish athlete. Now, I couldn't tell watching the clips Yahoo provided, but he was also playing on a fractured foot.
--I've also read that he is a magician with the ball. Again, the clips that were provided didn't show much detail of that part of his game, but he did look good dribbling the ball in standard fashion.
--Is he a pass first PG? I don't know, but we'll find out.
Like the rest of the young PG's on the team, if Orien learns to execute the pick and roll to perfection, he'll be on the court a lot. With his height and long reach, he can make the passes off of picks a lot easier than the shorter Delonte, Dan Dickau, and Banks. He should also have an easier time making the entry pass into the post because of his height. Most PG's are a few inches shorter than he is, so he can see right over them and also make passes over their outstretched arms.
He had surgery to repair his fractured foot, and after its rehabbed, he should be quicker and more explosive. His shooting form was re-worked and it became more consistent during his pre-draft workouts. Hopefully, he's been working hard on his shot since then to get his form consistent.
Intriguing prospect. He's one of the guys I'm very curious to see play this season.
