You all might have been upset when I started the race thing about Danny having a preference for white guys and white guys being considered to "work harder"- however, this is MUCH worse. How anyone in this day and age could still believe that being gay is inherently evil boggles my mind.

But you must realize that I am not the one deciding that its wrong. God is the one who said it--and what He says, goes. I have gay friends, and we hang out, go to movies, go out to eat, and stuff like that. I do not hate them as persons. As Christians, we are told to show love. I may not agree with their lifestyle, and they may not like what I believe. But if I continue to show love to them and be their friends, they may become intrigued with my faith in the Lord and want to know what its all about. And from that point, I turn it over to God. 2 Cor. 5:17 says, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature (or creation): old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." Though they may be gay now, when a person accepts Jesus into their heart, it changes them from the inside (.."behold, all things are become new.") You "become" a new creation. Its a transformation from within.
God still loves the people who are gay, and its obvious because He sent his Son to die for all of our sins. He just doesn't like what they are doing. But God is waiting with open arms to take us back, if we turn to Him. I am no different than a person who is living a gay lifestyle. I sin, just as they sin. I am tempted by worldly things and sexual things just as they are. I fall just as they fall. In God's sight, we are all sinners and it makes no difference if we are straight, gay, murderers, tyrants, rapists, or even really good people. We all need God's forgiveness in order to be with Him later.
I'd also like to add that this gay issue is not a new one. Its not anything new, at all. It was prevalent in Roman civilization centuries ago. Orgies and other sexual acts that God did not intend for mankind to be involved in were going on when Rome was in its heyday. And this upset God very much. We can look at past history and learn a few things.

Yes, very true. I do not want this to get out of hand. It is very possible to discuss thoughts about current issues and about religion/faith in a calm and reasonable manner. No one can get their points across in a shouting match, and that's not how discussions should be held anyways. Not that this thread is out of hand at the moment, but I'm sure it can be if we don't watch ourselves.
OK, back to Celtics basketball.

Well, I don't feel that the conversation is hostile, so no need in closing it or deleting it.

Here ya go...They're all over the net. christianchat.com/Not that I don't agree with you Derren. I just believe most people don't want to be preached to when they aren't asking for it. I'm with Jambr on this one...

Meltin asked me the question that started this particular conversation, and Jambr's comment was a semi question, which I felt like answering. True, this is a Celtics message board and people don't come here to talk about faith/religion. But if a question is presented to me, I will answer it if I can. I don't intend to keep talking about God if no one is interested. Forcing things down peoples throat isn't effective. But because the questions arose, I responded.
And if people want to talk about their faith or continue on with this conversation, we can always start up a new thread in the "Others" section.
If not, we can continue on with another topic I am overwhelmed with, the Boston Celtics! ;D

You come across as a solid Christian with a passion to pass on 'the word'. I like that about you Derren. I believe too.
I believe it would be best to keep detailed conversations about race, religion and politics to PMs. Not everyone wants to read it on a sports board. If this is to be kept as a positive home for Celtic fans, these might be best left private or one-on-one.
Long live the King! ! ! oops...sorry. Elvis is out there on his island. ;D

Nah, Elvis left a long time ago. He was reminiscing about Blue Hawaii one day, and decided to get out his long board and go surfing. He kept paddling out, further and further ......... and we haven't seen him since then. This was in '77, so anyone living close to the Pacific ocean may want to periodically check the beaches and shores. You may hear a guy paddling to "I'm all shook up".

DM, I have always respected what you have had to say and I respect your "knowledge" on religion. Clearly, it is a passion of yours, but I definitely don't agree with your stance (or God's stance) on the whole thing. It just seems as though you like your friends' personalities, but don't like how they live their life, which probably means they are not really your friends...if you can't accept and respect them for who they really are. It also sounds by your "transformation" explanation that they may suddenly change to being straight- which simply will never happen. I will keep the rest of my opinions and beliefs to myself...It is great that you don't shut gay people out of your life completely, but unfortunate that you almost look down upon them- especially when they have NO CONTROL over the fact that they are gay.

I'm glad that we were both able to speak our minds in a calm manner. I too will keep the rest of my beliefs to myself.

I would have liked to read the race and gay thing, although probably in the right place. This site is like a conversation. It goes wherever. But you wouldn't have a conversation about gayness in the middle of court or a discussion about race in a movie theatre. I am considering opening a thread in the right place that says "Controversial thread" where we talk about everything controversial. Even Tom Cruise. Even yelling should be allowed, but discouraged.
